  1. Any other TPRers willingly killing themselves this January for the Disney World Marathon?
  2. We definitely have a place like this in Charlotte. It's operated by the Junior Achievement of the Carolinas and is called JA Bizztown. Unfortunately its only open for elementary school field trips. Absolutely not as elaborate or cool as this (its funded entirely through donations afterall), but but the concept is viable here. KidZania should definitely try in the US again. Maybe not in a Mall, and cater to schools during the week, and everyone else on the weekend? Really cool concept!
  3. This is actually rather hard to decide. On the merits of just the atmosphere, food, and the story of the park, Disney wins hands down. If we include value, amount of rides, and the fact that I enjoy more thrilling rides I would have to go with Cedar Point. That said I pick Disney World just for the fact that when I leave the resort I always feel satisfied that I've had a great few days, and I'm willing to return yearly (sometimes more than once). When I do go to Cedar Point its to get a new credit in and re-ride the "good" rides. I leave and don't feel a need to return until the next new ride they pump out.
  4. I have to jump on the Cedar Fair band wagon as well. In the past two years I have been to every Six Flags and Cedar Fair park in Cali and along the east coast. Six Flags just pisses me off more often than not. (1 train operation on a weekends in the middle of summer, not knowing company policies on Gold Pass, Not taking my season parking pass when it explicitly says it works at EVERY SIXFLAGS PARK). That said, Six Flags New England and The Great Escape surprised me and made me consider changing my mind. Cedar Fair on the other hand seems to have their act together chain wide. Rides run with generally sufficient capacity (though I really wish Carowinds would figure out to run NightHawk faster, or just demolish the crap heap). I don't come out of a Cedar Fair park thinking I have been ripped off like I do at most six flags. So Cedar Fair wins
  5. Chuck, I know its two weeks late (been on a business trip and my company computers have TPR blocked), but I wanted to thank you for your TWO!!! donations to my page, and return the favor. Thanks man
  6. Hey I'm doing Carowinds with you! What rides were included last year? Thanks and look forward to meeting you We did Thunder Road... I doubt it would be intimidator, though it would be awesome. I am just hoping it is not Hurler or Carolina Cobra (Don't think I could do either more than once or twice)
  7. Just signed up for Carowinds for the second year!! https://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/matthewknudson/Carowinds2013
  8. Flight of fear at kings dominion-pre lapbar upgrade Somehow got over my headache enough after to go on anaconda... To make a long sorry short, I went home after that and didn't ride another coaster for 5 years. Thank god Busch Gardens had some good coasters to make me forget that traumatic experience
  9. So is this a "general public" type attraction where anyone and everyone can decide to go without a special ticket of some sort, or is it something that only a select few can experience a day? I mean the whole attraction is quite lengthy and only allows 25 people at a time. Unless there are multiple simultaneous "shows" not only is it going to be straining for the cast members, but I can see no way of Disney satisfying the demand for such an awesome thing.
  10. WHOO!! just over 12 hours you all have added over $200 to team TPR carowinds ... keep them coming!!!
  11. All right folks. Team TPR is no longer in the lead for the carowinds event. As of this message we are under by $32. Help usrrgain the lead and support a great cause. http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/danielsellers/Carowinds http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/jenntendoTPR/Carowinds http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/matthewknudson/Carowinds
  12. Fast pass systems are good and bad. More bad than good. First the park creates a class system in which those customers that attend the park but do not have as much free cash to throw around now feel degraded since they keep getting reminded that others are more well off. Especially because people in fast pass lanes always seem to be so smug about skipping lines (I admit I even fall into this category a little). Second, those that cannot afford the pass now have to spend even longer in lines than before. So by making a few hundred people happier, the park now makes a vastly larger amount more angry and spiteful. This reason really points out this is all about the money not making guests happy. Having spent spring break and Universal and Disney, I can say the only way I approve of a fast pass system is Disney's. At Universal I had the fast pass for one day, and not the next (didn't feel I needed it on a weekday). The day I didn't have it, I felt like the park had swept me under the rug and didn't care. Disney's worked out so well it made the whole day better. Everyone gets equal access, and they spread the tickets out throughout the day so that no single person will take advantage. I understand that parks need to make money, but when people are happy they buy more. Pissing people off will just result in people not buying anything. Just my two cents
  13. Hey, I actually registered yesterday, but this is the first time I have had the time to post something more substantial. I have been around TPR for a little over two years. Been moving around with school and what not and have never had the money, nor been close enough to go to any type of TPR event. Finally I have settled in one place long enough and got me my first "real" job with an engineering design firm, so hopefully I can have the time and money to join in a few more TPR events. I had never heard of Give Kids the World until I read about this event. I can remember my very first roller coaster ride (Thunder Mountain) at Magic Kingdom when I was 10. Since then its been a love affair with coasters and parks. It is a great opportunity to be able to help share that excitement with a deserving child and their family. Hopefully you all can help us at Carowinds make a difference in some child's life. I noticed most people end with some pictures of themselves at parks. Not a big picture person, so Ill leave you with a pic of an awesome waterfall. Its almost as good... Almost Waterfalls in Canada, Epcot
