  1. Yes, very much so. I was sweating profusely after standing in the direct sun for about an hour yesterday. I stepped inside the queue building for about 15 minutes and completely cooled down and even dried off. Of course, there weren't any other people in there at the time. I'm not sure how it fared today being full of hundreds of hot people.
  2. I was sitting in one of the gondolas at the base of the tower when the Superman cars were sent up for a test prior to the ceremony. It shook very intensely. You could just feel the vibrations throughout your entire body. Sadly, I gave up my seat on the ceremonial first drop so I could hear the speeches. The people that did go up said it easily swayed at least a foot to either side as the Superman cars hit the tower at full speed.
  3. Here is what the 'Old 99' steam engine looks like today. It sat in the boneyard, sinking into the asphalt for almost 20 years. A local business man, and former park employee, rescued and fully restored it.
  4. There is another possibility with regards to the monorail station demolition. Part of what Hersheypark bought from SFMM when they bought the monorails was the rotary switch section of the track, which they were going to get later. If I'm not mistaken, that section of track was next to this station. It's possible it was time for SFMM to pull that section of track out for Hersheypark and they just decided to demo the station while they were already there with the equipment.
  5. Here's a link to a map of the Newhall Land project (It's called Entrada) that completely wraps around the park. Magic Mountain is the small parcel of land in the top-right, next to the I-5 logo: http://www.dfg.ca.gov/regions/5/newhall/docs/RegionalOverviewMap.pdf
  6. Either then, or I noticed it when I took another visit in the beginning of April. All they did was tear down the border around the building. Seemed pretty pointless to me. They actually did that the week of Feb 14th. I posted a bunch of pictures of it on my blog back then. Every employee I've talked to since then has said they are not adding anything but just doing some long overdue demo for things that were falling apart.
  7. Wholly crap where did you get that?!?!? You know what is was probably from the little air conditioned store that's the first one on your right when you enter the park. It looks like something they would sell there. Or mybe it's a promotional thing and they were selling them or handing them out on ddd opening day. It would make more sense if the pen and case were made of metal instead of woob because it's not a wooden coaster but that's ok. It was one of the gifts we got from the park president, Melinda Ashcraft, and her staff when we were visiting SFOG in July. It's really a unique item and I like it a lot. I'd just like to know the backstory on it. Has anyone ever seen one of these in any of their stores before? I'm kind of hoping that it was perhaps a limited item that they received from Gerstlauer for buying the coaster. That would make a great story.
  8. I was at the park today and took a pretty close look at the area around the base of the tower. There is a fence between Paintball Alley and Guest Necessities that looks plenty wide enough to accomodate an entrance to the area. Judging by the aerial photo above, there also appears to be plenty of room to build queues without having to remove or repurpose any existing buildings. I'm guessing this is their plan.
  9. I was wondering if a SFOG regular can tell me anything about this Dare Devil Dive pen? It's made of wood and came in a nice wood box. Is this something that can be purchased in the park or did it have a more limited distribution than that? It was given to me as a gift and will make a nice addition to my memorabilia collection, but I'd just like to know a little bit more about it.
  10. I was a single rider today but there were no others that I saw. I hooked up pretty quickly with a group of three. They wouldn't let me ride alone. I got the impression it was an attempt to maximize capacity and had nothing to do with weight distribution.
  11. Wow...my bald spot appears to be getting bigger. Good thing I can't normally see it. ii guessing your in the right side with stripes. It's actually a solid green, but looks striped in this photo. Front row, in front of the blonde in the white sweatshirt.
  12. Wow...my bald spot appears to be getting bigger. Good thing I can't normally see it.
  13. That photo must be a couple of weeks old. It's missing the giant Green Lantern logo that's hanging on the front of the ride now.
  14. A park employee I was speaking to this weekend said they had decided at the last minute to relocate a panel (control, electrical?) due to where it sat and the fact that it was a dual-sided loading platform.
