  1. Wow! Those are fantastic shots there. I must ask since I am very big into photography and film; what kind of camera and lens are you using? I'm assuming thats a 200MM zoom on the top of Top Thrill's tophat? A very nice update indeed... I miss Cedar Point a lot this year. Halloweekends are very cool feeling at this time of year. I'm glad to see that they brought back Jack's Toy Factory also, that was a silly but neat haunted house. Thanks for sharing these photos, I very much enjoyed it! -Justin
  2. I'm so happy that my last day of radiation therapy is tommorow!! It's going to be really nice to return to reality, work, and a regular schedule without being weighed down from the inconvenience of this all. This will be a HUGE relief! -Justin
  3. I actually always did like Big Dipper and enjoyed my rides on it, although I don't know how it ran in it's last few years; it had been a LONG time since I actually rode it. I'm imagining this is probably what's going to happen to Starliner. Though I hate to say this, but I don't feel like that would be a tragic loss if it was never relocated. I guess they may be pretty similar coasters, but it seemed like Starliner was just a lot less fun. Oh well. -Justin
  4. Wow! I thought the one here at Fun Spot in Orlando was scary enough, an extra 100ft or so... yikes! haha. I'm actually interested to see how this will look on their skyline, a nice touch I think. Hopefully they'll have some really cool light displays on the vehicles themselves; not that it would ruin the ride any without it, but it would just look cool lighting up the sky like so. -Justin
  5. Remarkable trip report and photos you have there! Thank you so much for sharing them with us, you're getting to do a lot, and at such a young age you'll really appreciate this later in life, look back, and wish you could do it all over again and again. Some of the ones I most enjoyed were the Swiss Alps. I've never there but it looks so majestic and I would love to travel over there and see. One of the many places that I would like to see in my lifetime! The photos that made me laugh the most were the guests standing up on the raft ride (I work on one so this was amusing to me) and the Hollywood Tower at Movieland. Fun stuff. Hope your trip continues to go well and thanks for the updates and photos so much! -Justin
  6. Wow nice! A new B&M style coaster. It should be interesting to see how this turns out. Thanks for sharing! -Justin
  7. Im getting pretty excited about this. I'm going to Kings Dominion twice this year, so hopefully I'll be able to get a good couple of rides on it. My biggest question is if they'll be able to hit all 1,350 riders per hour with just two trains. Looking forward to this! -Justin
  8. GwaziBSRider1, Welcome to the forums first of all! And second of all welcome to your first season at Cedar Point! I know you're going to have a blast, especially if you love theme parks and rollercoasters. I spent my first season there last year, not knowing what to expect; and am spending my second season there even more excited than the first year. I applied at Cedar Point after having a little bit of a hard time getting into some of the parks down here, Cedar Point returned my call immediately and hired me for Power Tower. I was moved to Top Thrill Dragster later on, then Millennium Force, and then Magnum XL-200, and eventually worked all of them at the same time! If you go in with a good attitude (knowing you're going to have a good time) you will, and you'll most definately meet a lot of people that share your interests and excitement for the industry. Mean Streak is a fairly easy ride to operate from what I heard. It's also very relaxed and the hours aren't horrible. However you DO have to walk quite a ways everyday, so be prepared for A LOT of walking... Like almost anywhere from 3-4 miles a day, seriously. I believe the walk back to the ride alone is a mile. That doesn't include if you have housing, to walk from your dorm, to the ramp, parking lot, up and down multiple stairs, then the drive from the housing complex to the parking lot, parking lot to the Employee maingate, and then your time clock to ride area. (Wear comfortable shoes!!!) More good news is if you show enough effort you can crosstrain, work multiple rides, and if you want, pick up more hours. You'll probably average anywhere from 40-50, maybe even 60 a week, depending on if you want to stay through a split shift, or O-6 (open to six), O-8 (open to whenever breaks are done), or whatever else. The pay is kind of low, but you work so many hours it makes up for it... and you're having a lot of fun doing it, so what else is needed right? Overall I know you're going to have a good time... Send me a message if you want to chat more! It's always exciting to hear from new employees, and make sure to stop by Top Thrill this year and say hey! -Justin
  9. This is exactly the kind of refurbishment Space Mountain was long overdo for, IMO. They kept the original ride layout which is classic and original, and altered the rest of the minor things in the ride that really needed some work. The covered queues; making the ride darker, the slightly modified standby queue, the exit ramp, and even the ride's controls system. To which my knowledge, if I am correct, runs like Magnum XL-200, where if you get "set up" you have to run to blocks and release them manually with switches or keys... not fun, trust me. This is now functional through controls, which will decrease the amount of downtime a lot. I'm excited to be back and be ale to ride this! I will definitely be going back to ride this, as I have missed soft openings. -Justin
  10. It's funny to me some of the weather conditions people have visited parks in and still been open. We tried visiting Kings Island tonight and had plans, and passes bought, etc... and when we got to Colombus we get a call to hear that "Kings Island is closed" I know this is a little off topic... but a lot of parks stay open for rain, even rides, and yet the ENTIRE park closed. I mean if you decide to even close the park days in advance thats dissapointing considering people travel to it, and its going to be closed. But when you hear from someone else that park is completely closed when you're heading there due to bad weather... wow. Talk about extreme weather conditions.
  11. I feel like I was the only one who didn't care for this. Not saying that it doesn't take a lot of effort or talent to walk across a tiny cable; it's not something I could or would ever do... I just didn't get as impressed by it as everyone I guess. Glad this turned out ok though and no one got hurt; I know he has years of experience and this is nothing to him, but ANYTHING could have happened, and with as little protection as he had in such a huge crowd, if something would have happened it would have been bad. It especially made me nervous being one of his "life-lines" -Justin
  12. This is probably one of the weirder coasters I have seen! IAAPA had something a lot less short, high, and crazy one time. I can't remember the maker, but you sat back to back and it was floorless, and it went back and forth for awhile; only they had breaks on it, which stopped the random "back and forthness" which might be slightly disorienting, shew! -Justin
  13. The heartline roll is there, you just have to look really carefully. As for the completed product, that does look pretty awesome. Theming and steel latice around the lift should be going up soon I'm guessing. Thanks for sharing! -Justin
  14. Whoah, did the lifthill just get installed in ONE day? lol. Awesome work Universal! Glad you fixed whatever issues you were dealing with. Screamscape posted some pics from it, but I believe they're the same ones that someone had posted earlier from the IOAcentral boards. http://screamscape.com/html/uo_-_project_rumble_4.htm -Justin
  15. GREAT Update! Thanks for sharing them with everyone... definately looks like work is being done to the lift, and the track through the wall seems to be complete how they wanted. I also misjudged Rockit, that drop looks really steep from some of the pics. -Justin
