  1. I went to Holiday World last year late in the season. Voyage was running very well, as was Raven. Legend was a little rough in the back, but much better up front. I'm exited to find what their first large steel coaster will be. Paula is great with the teasers.
  2. Son of Beast It has A violent temper. I still can't believe that Paramount hired RCCA to butcher A Stengel Design. I'm not A fan of the Premier trains either. The Beast It's sad to see A great ride neutered. I really hope that they are able to sell off their parks. They seem to allow botton line thinking to damage the guests experience. I feel that way for several reasons. Thanks for reading.
  3. It's improved, but it still has FPS Issues. I wouldn't plan on making A mega park with it. I built A very powerful multimedia PC specifically for RCT3. I don't use RCT3 for full scale parks. I prefer RCT2 for that.
  4. I don't understand how anyone could heavily favor either ride. I like that Kingda Ka is 36ft taller (19ft drop) & 8mph faster with A bunny hill. But, the OTSR's and placement don't help it any. I slightly favor TTD for two reasons. 1. The winds on Lake Erie increase the chance of A rollback. Although, it also increases the chance of it closing. 2. No OTSR's (I love my freedom!) Thanks for reading. Duane "Both rides rock, when they're running" Black
  5. Alton Towers should aim some high powered mortars directly at the Roper's house. Give them A real reason to complain. Alton Towers should install A "Whack A Roper Game" You Know, It's "Whack A Mole" with the Ropers heads. I would overpay to play. When I do make it to Alton Towers, I might be packing an Air Horn. I don't mean to sound like A jerk, but these self important hypocrites really make me sick. Thanks for Reading.
  6. I took three trips on "The Italian Job" during my visit to PKI, in late August this season. I was placed in rows 3,5,6. The 2nd and 3rd rides were based on hopes of riding in the front seat. I had plenty of extra time considering "Outer Limits" and "Top Gun" failed to open that day. I asked to wait for the front seat during my last trip. I got to choose between rows five and six. The people directly behind me asked the same question, then were escorted to the front seat. The quality of the ride was comparable to the line attendant's work ethic. I wasn't very impressed with the theming. Scene Six: (The Billboard) was the only exceptional piece of theming in the ride. The ride offered almost no air time with slight lateral G forces. There are trims located before and after Scene Six. The last trim brake wasn't very friendly; thrusting me forward. Other than that, the ride is fairly smooth. Overall, I rated it as an "Average Family Attaction" (6/10). I wouldn't plan A trip around this attraction. I went in with low expectations and left feeling dissapointed. I aggree with those of you who think that Carowinds would have made A better home for this attraction.
  7. Park: PKI Ride: Face Off Year: 1999 (Opening Year) We were A little late getting to the Action Zone, due to A lenghtly power riding session on The Beast, Vortex, The Racer. After A few rides on Drop Zone, we headed to Face Off. I've never been A big fan of Vekoma Boomerangs, but this was to be my first trip on an inverted model. The line wasn't very long, so I assumed that the wait time would be brief. We were making our way towards the front, despite the ride's low hourly capacity and slow, unsupervised crew. After nearly an hour of waiting in the sun for only 300 or so people to be cycled through, we were finally in the loading station. At that time, the ride suffered A break down. We waited patiently for nearly 45 additional minutes. We finally recieved some feedback about the estimated down time. Three hours was the estimate. We immediately made our way back through the line and headed towards Top Gun. After A 15 minute wait for Top Gun and A 5 minute viewing session of the construction of Son of Beast, we made our way back to Drop Zone. While entering the line, I noticed that Face Off was up and running again. I wasn't amused. Thanks for Reading.
  8. I like that Quote. In your opening statement in the quote, you appear to be agreeing with someone. Who would that be? I think that everyone who expressed their love for wooden coasters deserves A little credit for the outcome of the show. I'm very excited that Discovery Channel is promoting wooden coasters. I hope the show is A success. I'm not far from Holiday World or Beach Bend. I hope to attend one of the events. Thanks for reading.
  9. I like Steel and Wood equally, but for completely different reasons. They both have their advantages. Wood obviously has it's physical limitations, but it has A different feel and some have A nice smell. Most classic and modern designs incorporate several air time hills, crossovers, twists and turns. Many provide an "out of control" feeling. Wood has two advantages over steel in terms of the ride experience. First, the support structure better hides the next element. Wooden Coasters with multiple crossovers are naturally unpredictable. Lastly, There is nothing that can replicate the feeling of rolling through the woods on A wooden roaster, day or night. Steel just doesn't feel natural. The biggest advantage is the price tag. "Voyage" is A perfect example. For $6.5M Holiday World will install A world class Custom Wooden Coaster by A reputable designer/manufacturer that will keep patrons coming back for years to come. How's that for capital investments? The price tag on an "off the shelf" B&M averages around $20M. I'm guessing that Intamin is even higher. If the price of steel continues to rapidly increase, large steel coasters may not be A wise investment for many small to mid sized parks. What A Shame. Many modern wooden coasters mainly from GCI, CCI (GG), and Intamin are superior to previous designs in terms of technology and re-rideablity. Technology like GCI's articulated trains and Intamin's pre-fabricated woodies, not to mention some great engineering make their modern wooden coasters far less abusive than most woodies. It upsets me to see A poorly maintained woody. It gives wood A bad name. I think that certain wooden coasters such as "Son of Beast & Mean Streak" hurt the general publics perception of wooden roller coasters. I just hope that not too many people pass bye A new world class woody simply because of A previuos experience with A bad wooden coaster. If Discovery Channel decides to highlight A section on New Woodies, they might consider including A couple of tips on how to ride primative wooden coasters. Such as "Ride in the middle row of A six seat (2x3) car" and "Don't Hold On" or (here's A good one) "Try to Relax" *(Reduce the Abuse)* I would love to see A portion of the show dedicated to promoting the modern wooden designs. The General Public needs to be aware of recent improvements in wooden coasters. This would surely benefit the parks with modest investment capital. The amusement industry appreciates all of your support. Thank you for reading.
