  1. Ok Seeing that i live across the street from HRP and i go about 2 times a week i know a few reasons why the park is struggling. 1) Obvious bad advertising! The first add campaign before the park opened was terrible and created nearly no buzz about the park. The second one was cheezy and features pictures and commercials of an old guy doing Gene Simmons impressions which was just a bad idea. Now they have little flyers and posters around town and a bunch of billboards, thats about it. Rarely see a commercial (i've probably seen 3 or so) Something i'm surprised they haven't done is have discount coupons in local fast food restaurants. When i lived in San Diego we would always go to Carls Jr or something like it and get half price coupons and then decide to go just cause we could get in for cheaper (this was before my enthusiast days) 2) Types of Myrtle Beach Visitors! Rednecks!!! and Redneck families! They come here to relax on the beach and eat at restaurants not named McDonalds. They don't want to spend that much money to take the whole family which could be from 4-8 people a theme park. The next biggest crowd is golfers and they couldn't care less about the park. 3) Ticket Prices! They have tried to fix this but it isn't enough. They have a local discount and kids discount but they don't really offer many coupons or promotions to get in for anything but prices at the gate. 4) Heat! Its hot here, and there is a SERIOUS lack of water rides. Early indication is that next year that is what the park will be looking to build a log style ride, obviously themed to music though. But for now Slippery when wet isn't enough to keep people cooled off. 5) Ride Selection! other than the no water ride problem rides like Maximum RPM are just a bad idea. Too short, boring, problematic, delayed opening, early closures, audio often doesn't work, and low capacity make for a very poor investment. And the flat ride selection is pretty much 3 or 4 rides that do the same thing as one another, and no real thrill flat ride. Problems aside, most people like the rides, the shows and the mini concerts throughout the day so that isn't as much of a problem with why people aren't coming but maybe why they aren't coming back. 6) Superstition! i'm starting to think that land is cursed for anything entertainment. There have been malls, an outdoor show, a movie theater(closed for mold) and multiple theater shows... all which have come and gone for various reasons. Now 2 churches and a Medieval times inhabit the land, Medieval times does ok and the churches do very well. But there is something weird about that piece of land. 7) Lack of local support! HRP made the locals mad by high ticket prices and expensive season passes. It took a couple months before a local discount was offered. And during the preview days almost nothing was open, most people were initialy annoyed but they are starting to like it again. I think the park is great, and there is a lot to do if you aren't just going for roller coasters. i have a great time everytime i go and i think they did a good job a creating something unique and fun for everyone. I really hope it stays open not only cause i'm a local, but because it has such potential and room to expand. i get so bummed when i drive by the parking lot and its almost empty because i know its so much better than the other attractions in Myrtle Beach.
  2. They actually have very good service, consistently better than most parks that i've been to in the last few years. And while the Attractions list is a little smaller than most, i think people realize its a brand new park and that it will take time to fill out. There is still tons to do...just not necessarily for a roller coaster enthusiast. If the park doesn't make it after a few years it wont be because of service or quantity of rides, it'll be because Myrtle Beach is a weird place. The park is twice as crowded on tuesday and wednesday compared to the weekend where it is empty (very strange). The crowds are small right now due to bad advertising and marketing research...and no kids priced tickets...
  3. I've been to the park quite a few times now(although never during the day) I really like what they have done here, its a really good mix of rides, shows, and other fun stuff to do scattered throughout the park. While none of the rides completely blow you away (well maybe The Moody Blues ride depending on your state of mind) , they are all for the most part very solid and a good foundation for this park as it will continue to grow. I've talked to Jon Binkowski who is pretty much the park creator and he keeps pushing the point that it isn't a roller coaster enthusiast park but that it is designed for everyone and that when you leave you'll feel like you have experienced something new and they do have a good variety of unique attractions. I think this is the right way to build a new park from scratch, over the years im getting tired of parks that just add roller coaster after roller coaster and ignore atmosphere and a unique experience. I already love the park, and its even motivated me to get back into shape (I go for a run to the park every night to ride Zeppelin once or twice then run back). They also have quite a few small plots of land scattered throughout the park that could easily hold some new flat or water rides so i expect something new to start filling out the park very soon...
  4. Seeing as how i drive by the ride everyday i get some pretty good looks at it. I think the cobra roll actually looks pretty small. And i don't think this ride will be forceless, one thing i've noticed is how close the loop and the cobra roll are to each other. There isn't much space between them, and because of the space left in the construction site, i would expect the rest of the track to be squeezed in pretty tight. They have the supports up for the turn after the break run/flat track??? (does anyone know if that actually is suppose to be a break run?)
  5. Thanks for the pictures, i only had 10 minutes to get through the preview center cause i showed up as they were closing. So its nice to go through the pictures and actually get a good look at what things look like. I was really confused about the premier ride, i asked them what it did and they told me it launched through a seperate ferris wheel ride. I didnt think it looked right, and i guess it isnt. Im glad he was wrong, that ride sounds pretty unique and sweet now.
  6. Ok so today i went to the Hard Rock park Backstage tour preview. They had a concert with a few thousand people, it was pretty sweet and i had a good time. And the preview center left me with the impression that they are gonna do a fantastic job with this park. They even themed the preview center very well, with a lot of rock memorabilia... mount rockmore, the led zeppelin statue(the hermit is what they called it) the car that austin powers drives dont know what its called, and the beetles magical mystery tour bus and much more. They had a model of the park and everything looked better than on the concept art, I asked around and found out a lot of good info about the park. No new info about Led Zeppelin the ride, they just had some zeppelin memorabile. And that the loading station will be inside a zeppelin blimp, the que station will also be very big so probably some good theming. Slippery when wet - that is the name of the green looking ride in the middle of the park, it is suspended swinging ride with watter. Like ones we have seen before. Maximum RPM - its the launched ride, (the red one on the concept art) according to the info guys at the preview center, Its going to launch through a ferris wheel, and will be mostly close to the ground and short but should be pretty fun. Then there is the kid coaster, nothing too exciting. And Midnight rider which looks like it is 2 separate mine train tracks. Probably by vekoma, but i'm not positive. Also the dark ride will be in the back of the park and incorporated into the pre-existing buildings that were a part of the outlet mall. They aren't releasing the name of the ride yet, but they said it will be a 60's 70's theme and will rely on lots of black light effects. There is much more i just cant think of all of it right now. I didn't get any pictures yet, but when i do i will put them on. But it looks pretty sweet, and living a short walk away i'm going to love having it here.
  7. I agree that TPR is very openminded, i've been reading posts for a while but never really felt like posting till recently. I consider myself to be fairly conservative, and i dont see a problem with disney doing this. Like many have said they are most likely doing this for money reasons and not necessarily for the cause of the homosexual movement. ^^I dont necessarily think that america is ignorant, just slow to change especially on the foundation of the country that was formed under christianity and the bible. But its inevitable that within a generation or two this wont really be an issue, and i'll just be happy when its laid to rest and people can agree on something.
  8. ^^^Im pretty sure they signed a contract with Sally for a dark ride, and there are a lot of buildings that i could easily see a dark ride going inside.
  9. Yeah the park is kinda in an odd place, and in a area that is full of abandoned buildings that needs some work. And they are working on fixing the traffic, but it wont be done for a while. I think 3 coasters sounds about right, and they are going heavily on theming and the whole rock n roll idea so i think you are right when you say its going to be more of a universal type experience. I think their some of thier inspiration comes from Island of Adventure too.
  10. I live across the street from the park and I have seen what the park is suppose to look like. All i saw was a photo copy of the blue print but the roller coaster footprint looks identical to the ride pictured in that preview picture. Most of the buildings in the concept art look similar to the buildings that are in construction right now. You can also see coaster markings in that area and it looks pretty legit. I am needless to say very excited about the park, but let me tell you that traffic will be terrible there until they finish the bridge that they are just starting construction on. Its already bad enough. btw this is my first post on this site...
