  1. Sorry I just don't see why you need "personal experiences" to answer a question like this.... ...when the answer is easily found on the website I provided.
  2. Well it seems to me that the info from the website gave the answers to all the questions you asked.
  3. http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/loose_articles.cfm
  4. You can bring it on any ride except for Top Thrill Dragster or Millennium Force. They don't allow "loose articles" to be brought in line. You can check this out... http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/loose_articles.cfm
  5. At the waterpark. I haven't been there yet, but from reading PTRs, the rides side has been empty. I could be wrong , though. I wonder how it's like on weekends, or how it will be like in July. The ride side was empty with X-Flight and Steel Venom, and now its empty without X-Flight and Steel Venom. Actually I've heard the crowds have been pretty moderate lately, better than last year.
  6. Each time I've been to Holiday World, weekdays in June and July, the waterpark has been extremely busy, yet all of the coasters on the ride side were walk-on to 10min wait. That was the exact same thing I experienced at Geauga Lake the last times I visited it. But yet, I don't hear anything about Holiday World closing down soon. My point is, how do we know that Geauga Lake is doing so poorly financially? Is anyone on here in charge of Cedar Fair's budget? The park simply doesn't need 10 coasters anymore with the attendence they now get. I think removing 3 rides is a great way to get your attractions to reflect your attendence. I don't see why we have all these comments about how the park is "going to close soon." How does removing 3 rides signify that the park will close soon? Its just means Geauga Lake will operate more effeciently. Nothing wrong with that.
  7. So Geauga Lake's waterpark is always packed, yet there rides side is walk-on? There going to close soon? Quick somebody tell Holiday World this, they're having the same problem, they might close down soon too.
  8. Look, I'm not here to "defend" ACE, I'm just giving their "view" as to why Racer is worthy of landmark status. Do I agree with it? I really don't care. But it seems they felt the ride was worthy of landmark status. I just don't see what the big deal here is. So a group of coaster enthusiasts give out a meaningless award to mediocre coaster at a park full of mediocre coasters. Who cares? Why does everyone here acting as if its the end of the world because the Racer got an award? You are all acting as if ACEers kill babies and have acid instead of blood. Why is this such a big deal? I doubt any of Kings Island's guest will care that the Racer is an ACE landmark. It seems the only people that care about this award is the members of themeparkreview.com. So I ask again, who cares it the Racer is an ACE landmark? Its a meaningless award, and really doesn't deserve a thread 7 pages long.
  9. You still don't get it. Its not what coaster enuthiasts think of the ride or how many people have heard of it, its the ride's effect on the industry. Sure maybe coaster fans outside of Ohio might not heard of the Racer, but look at all the "Racer clones" that followed. (Rebel Yell, Thunder Road, American Eagle, Rolling Thunder, ect.). All of these rides were built in the 70s after Racer. Racer made the out and back woodie an amusement park staple, and many parks followed Kings Island in offering that. Thats why Racer gets an award, because so many more coasters and parks sprang from it. Same thing with landmarks like Magnum and the first Batman:The Ride.
  10. Well, considering that the Racer is 25 years old, maybe you should give the GCIs and Intamins a little more time.
  11. No, no, no....Wes is right. The ACE landmarks are completely pointless.....and totally stupid....just like ACE! Racer ranked #100 out of 179 woodies in the Mitch Hawker poll. Now tell me again, WHY does this coaster deserve recognition over those other 99 woodies? I agree that Racer IS a fun ride, and it's probably my favorite woodie in the park (never was much of a Beast fan), but still..... --Robb I think your missing the point of this ACE Coaster Landmark. Its not about whether the ride is good or not or what park its at, its the ride's importance to the amusement park industry, which is something I feel the Racer deserves. Its not a popularity award, its a historic award. Many credit the Racer with restarting a "Golden Age" of coasters and amusement parks. During the 50s and 60s, your traditional amusement parks were dying out, coasters were being lost everywhere. Television and shopping malls were threatening the very existence of amusement parks. Parks like Riverview Park, Idora Park, and coutless others died out. Yet when Kings Island started in 1972 with its Racer, it marked a reimargence of the roller coaster. After that moment in history, the amusement park industry grew in leaps and bounds, with plenty of new coasters, and new parks (Six Flags, Paramounts,ect.). Thats why the Racer gets a landmark, it helped changed the amusement park industry, and thats what this award is for. Its the same reason why Magnum at Cedar Point became a ACE landmark. Magnum also changed the industry by being the first "hypercoaster." If not for Magnum, would we have all the hypercoasters we have today? If not for Racer, would we be seeing 10-20 new coasters in the US every year? I don't know, but it seems ACE feels Racer is just that historically significant.
  12. Actually Mitch's poll doesn't take into account ridership. Pyrenees was #9 even though it only had 10 riders, and Katun only had 33 riders. This is pretty much my biggest problem with Mitch's poll, as it doesn't always have enough riders to make the poll "statistically significant." I just don't see how you can call Pyrenees a top ten ride (even though it might be very good) when only 10 people have ridden it. Why not? As many people have said on this thread, "Maverick is better than Millennium Force." If Millennium Force is #6 on the poll, doesn't that put Maverick in top five range? Just wondering though, what do you think that Maverick doesn't offer that could make it a top five ride? Like I've said before, I think it offers many of the elements of the top rides (without the 200ft drop), so I don't see why it shouldn't be ranked up with those rides.
  13. Most likely true. Actually I believe Magnum does deserve to be one of the best steel coasters in the world. (Maybe not exactly #3) Its one of my favorite steel coasters because it contains the most intense moment of ejector air I've felt on a coaster. (Last airtime hill in tunnel) Now, I've never ridden El Toro or Superman, but I'd say the airtime on Magnum is even more intense than the air on the Voyage (though maybe not as much), and it easily much more intense than any of B&M hypers I've been. I really believe from start to finish Magnum is a great ride, with the intense ejector air, intense turnaround, use of tunnels, and the second drop that seems to launch you into Lake Erie. I don't understand why its so wrong to suggest Maverick will do extremely well on Mitch's poll. To me, the ride seems offer many of the elements of the Intamin hypers that happen to be the best in the world (Superman, Goliath, Expedition Ge Force) with its airtime, swooping drop, tight turns, stengel dive, to go along with things totally unique to the ride (tunnel, 2 launches, 95 degree drop, airtime horseshoe inversion). For everything Maverick offers, it should be a top ten coaster in Mitch's poll, as it has everything enthusiasts look for: airtime, tight turns, great drops, intense forces. I'd say Maverick offers all the things that make up a top ten coaster, and thats why its my #1 steel coaster.
  14. Are you serious? Ever ridden Blue Streak or Magnum? Gemini? Skyhawk? Hell, even Corkscrew has a great moment of airtime. I'd say Cedar Point is tied with Holiday World for the park with the best airtime anywhere.
