Valencia, CA, October 22, 2008 — Six Flags Magic Mountain announced today the addition in 2009 of a new wooden roller coaster to its world renowned coaster collection. Developed by the same team that produced the new X2 experience, TERMINATOR®: THE COASTER will combine innovative thrill ride technology with the signature science fiction punch of the Terminator brand. The debut is scheduled to coincide with the release of the McG directed film Terminator Salvation™ next year, and will introduce fans to an entirely new universe inspired by the film's post apocalyptic setting.

The $10 million coaster, engineered exclusively for the Valencia theme park by Great Coasters International Inc. (GCII), TERMINATOR®: THE COASTER will feature a loading station 'fly-thru,' a state-of-the-art sight and sound package, and unique queue line and on-board entertainment elements. The GCII-designed Millennium Flyer coaster trains will zip through five belly-flopping hills and six high speed banked turns over 2,850 feet of track to create a ride that delivers the acrobatic thrills of a modern roller coaster while retaining the nostalgic look and feel of a classic 'woodie.'

Here's a nice overview of the lot. Looks like it's getting ready for the slab to be poured.

Close up of possibly a turnaround?

They have punched holes in the dirt to fit in the Lincoln Logs.

Deja Vu looks nervous.

Wide view of the punched out holes and turnaround.

Yay! More popsicle sticks!

Bigger popsicle sticks and what looks like a temporary staging area.

Popsicle sticks with their cloaking device.

Could this area be re-themed as well? Lots of old buildings there that could use demolition or refurbishment. Maybe that $10 million price tag includes some area redevelopment as well?

Oooh! Close up looks of sticks and rebar.

Poor fence got an ouchy.

It's ok fence. It won't scar too bad.

Just needs some marinara sauce and you got a meal at Buca di Beppo!

More pasta-roni.

More pallets of rebar.

This guy is the world champion rebar lifter.

Yes, yes, we know you're stacks of wood! Your secret is out now.

Please tell me this building is included in the project. I'd love to see this turned into a nice shop or one of those "Super Bathrooms" Jay talked about during West Coast Bash.

This old bathroom could use an update too. Perhaps demolishing it to add another opening into the area so the coaster doesn't feel like it's hidden in the back corner of the park?
