We were driving to my uncles house in Tampa, and in the middle of Tampa lies this little waterpark. We decided to stop in to the park. We enjoyed the water coaster "Calypso Coaster" and the so claimed " floridas first four mat slide". It was a decently priced and very fun afternoon in Tampa.
This water park great for people of all ages. Parking seems overpriced at $12.00. The story of Tampa Typhoon creeps some out a bit, but you can see they've made every ride safe. The only moderate safety hazard I saw was on the top of the Wahoo Run. Some people were swaying back and forth, and the 'building' swayed with them. Of course, Gwazi across the street has stayed open and it looks extremely unsafe but it runs as safely as possible.
Adventure Island is nice, sprawling water park that makes a good add-on to a day at Busch Gardens Tampa (or perhaps a good way to spend the time before attending BGT's Howl-o-Scream event in October). The park's tropical theming is OK (if a bit weak), but the park is starting to show its age and could use a few modern, more-thrilling slides. But those who want to splash around and cool off should be satisfied. It just doesn't hold a candle to WDW's water parks or Universal's Wet 'n' Wild.
I've always enjoyed Adventure Island since I was a kid. The park is surprisingly big with over 20 water slides and attractions. Adventure Island is very popular with Tampa Bay locals. Some of the slides are dated but I love that half the park is very shaded with lots of trees. This is not common for many of the other Florida water parks like Wet 'n Wild, Aquatica or Blizzard Beach. I recommend this as a good all day family water park.
Not a bad waterpark, but when compared to Aquatica, it is pretty sad. The slides are old and need replacing, the theming is very dated, and the whole place needs a MAJOR face lift.
