J man Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 Have any of you heard about the plans for a Theme Park in west Phoenix called Magic City? It's supposed to open in 2007 and have a total of 5 roller coasters (two of them wooden), a super ride (whatever that is), 3 water rides, 4 dark rides, and 34 other rides and attractions. I find this really interesting mainly because I live in Phoenix. The only park we have here is Castles~n~Coasters which is(as Robb put it in his review) a ghetto park. I'd like to know a bit more about Magic City because their website is rather vague.
J man Posted March 28, 2005 Author Posted March 28, 2005 Found a link that talks more about a park being built in Phoenix. I'm not sure if they are talking about Magic City or another park that they plan to build here in sunny old Phoenix. Theme-park plan pushed as a boost for tourism I hope this park gets built.
coaster1 Posted March 29, 2005 Posted March 29, 2005 Yeah I'll be sure to get out there opening day for the woodies .. hate to see what the dry Phoenix enviroment will do to the wooden coasters .. Legend City knew not to try, hence why the Sea Serpent was never rebuilt there ..
J man Posted August 29, 2005 Author Posted August 29, 2005 A friend of mine knows some people who are involved in the Magic City project. She said she overheard that Vekoma is building the roller coasters for Magic City. Hopefully they'll be good rides. I'll try to get out there for opening day too. It's only like 2 years away.
TheGreatOne Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Checking with a friend who works for Maricopa County, Archangel Investment LLC has not registered as a business for any kind of tax reasons. Also, they have not purchased any land whatsoever. I honestly doubt this will happen. It's WAY too ambitious. Not to mention the state is getting ready to fund a small amusement park in West Phoenix/Glendale and a massive entertainment center (with amusement park) in Williams, which is just south of the Grand Canyon and about 2.5 hours from Phoenix. -Bryan "You think you would purchase land before planning roller coasters on it" Wood
XtremeKing Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Magic City is planning to build a boomerang, and an SLC (I think) from Vekoma. MY friends dad is co VP of the company that is doing all the civil engineering for the park. Also furthermore to prove the fact that it is going to be built, the state governer, Janet Napolitano, signed the bill for it to be built about a month ago.
Twister II Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 The only reason I dont think it will happen is because its by the Grand Canyon, and probly will be on National Land stuff. But yeah I would love to see a new amusement park in AZ. Growing up only right behind the mall by Castles n Coasters, so its like my baby! But I do agree, after visiting earlier this year, its gotten pretty ghetto
nissanskyline1235 Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 Ya know, if this happens it'll be awesome. Then we wouldn't have to drive more than 5 hours to get to a park with more than 2 coasters. I don't think this is the park they proposed to be over by Cricket Pavillion, theres not enough land there. Hmm, maybe it'll be over in the westgate complex with the stadium and the arena, that'd be awesome! I'd live 5 minutes from an "amusement resort" for once. Yay. I'm still hopeful for the park by the pavillion and the one in williams, I just hope they do better than legend city did if they do happen. Hell ya know, a park besides castles n' coasters is awesome. 3!?! Well thats more than awesome! Even though it'll prolly be vekoma, its still better than the hopkins scrap metal in CnC! --Cody W
J man Posted August 30, 2005 Author Posted August 30, 2005 Even though it'll prolly be vekoma, its still better than the hopkins scrap metal in CnC! True dat. I'm starting to get tired of riding Desert Storm and The Patriot. You can only ride those coasters so many times before getting a headache. I've given myself many headaches that way before. It sucks.
XtremeKing Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 Lol! its always empty, so I marathoned Desert Storm like 30 trains in a row. (Dispatches are like 5 min apart)
nissanskyline1235 Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 ^Yeah, I think everbody that lives within a reasonable distance from it has done that. I like The Patriot more than Desert Storm, I always get off the ride laughing. Although, the way it slams into the brakes is just painful. I find my thrills on Sky Diver though, although, if and when this new park opens, that'll probably change. I also like freefall....but it hasn't been open the past few times I've been there.. (has it been open at ALL lately?) --Cody W
J man Posted August 31, 2005 Author Posted August 31, 2005 Last time I was there Freefall wasn't open. I don't know when it'll be back up. It could be up and running again right now for all I know.
