Hattuchili
Photo-TR: Disneyland (Resort ) Paris - Disney´s Sequoia Lodge Hey guys, finally after a long, long time I was able to visit a theme park, again. Life has not been that easy in the last, uhh let´s say, months and there were lots of things to figure out. Some of you may remeber that I was working at WDW from 2006 until 2007. There I met my fiancee, who took me to Sao Paulo for a while, after that year at WDW. Now we finally made it to Germany, to live there... I think that was the short form of the story, but I don´t want to bother you with all the details. Anyway, since my fiancee and I met at WDW, I thought it would be nice to fly back to Florida to celebrate our 3rd year. But a couple things have changed and we finally decided to drive to Disneyland Paris, to enjoy a couple days of Disney magic. I got lots of pictures and I am going to post them in the following order: - Disney´s Sequoia Lodge (posted: 04.26.09) - Disney Village (posted: 04.26.09) - Salon Mickey [A special location for Disneyland Paris Shareholders] (posted: 04.27.09) - Disneyland Park (posted: 05.01.09 - all pics are posted) - Walt Disney Studios (posted: 05.02.09) - Disney´s Stars ´n´ Cars Parade (posted: 05.02.09) - An exclusive look, guided by Cast Member Hugo, of the Phantom Manor !!! - As well as pictures from Disney´s Hotel New York and Disney´s Newport Bay Club - Paris City Tour [incl. a closer look at the Louvre] So, first of all let me tell you something about Disneyland Paris. They changed the name, again. Maybe some of you remember the name at opening day “Euro Disneyland”. But after a while they realized that the Europeans were not so happy with it and they changed name to “Disneyland Resort Paris”. Now, appr. 17 years after opening they chnged the name again. They just call it “Disneyland Paris”. Yep, no more “Resort”. But does it really makes a difference? I don´t think so. However, let me start with my trip report: We arrived around lunch time at our hotel, Disney´s Sequoia Lodge. The hotel is located right beside Lake Disney. From there it is just a short way to walk to the Disney Village and the 2 Disney parks. The hotel itself looks a bit like the “Wildernes Lodge” at WDW, but not as much detailed as the big brother on WDW property. We always liked the Wilderness Lodge and had some great moments there. That´s why I thought it would be a great idea to book the Sequoia Lodge. But there is really a big difference between both hotels. I mean the Sequoia Lodge was really okay, but if you are expecting the same nice and warm touch you are getting at the Wilderness Lodge, then you maybe get a bit disappointed. Don´t get me wrong, it is a nice hotel and we enjoyed our time there, but it is not the same. At the hotel we got a nice room at the main building (Montana), on the last floor. There we had a great view over Lake Disney, Disney´s Hotel New York, Disney´s Newport Bay Club and the Disney Village. In the far distance we could also see the Sleeping Beauty Castle as well as Space Mountain, the Big Thunder Mountain and the Hollywood Tower Hotel. So, onto the first couple of pictures: - Disney´s Seuoia Lodge --Soren Thanks for reading. Next update will be the "Disney Village". The back entrance. The Sequoia Lodge seen from the Disney Village. One of many walkways throughout the nicely themed area. The pool was inside its own Lodge, since it could get very cold in the wintertime. We went there only once, but had a great time. Every morning we had breakfast included. With our VIP breakfast pass we could go at anytime and got always a nice table. ... The hotel shop had some nice decorated windows. Alessandra, some grilled fish. I got a delicious steak. If you don´t remember, that is us... waiting for our food at the Beaver Greek restaurant. ... and the Beaver Greek. At both restaurants they serve breakfast in the morning and different meat specialties for dinner. At the hotel they had 2 restaurants, the Hunter´s Grill... The Disney Village at night. The Hollywood Tower Hotel, just opened last year. Sleeping Beauty Caslte as well as Space Mountain in the far back. Behind the Disney Village is the Disneyland hotel which is also the entrance to the Disneyland Park. Straight ahead Lake Disney and the Disney Village. Disney´s Newport Bay Club on the left site. ... and to the right. The view to the left... The view from our room, straight down. Uhh, a nice welcome letter from the hotel manager. I hope the mini bar is full stocked. That looks like a nice place to stay for a few nights. Anywhere here needs to be our room. They were doing a nice show. Mickey and Minnie on there way to entertain the waiting guests in the lobby. The fire place. Aww, at the bar we had a couple good drinks. A nice are to hang out for a while. Notice the huge fire place in the middle. Yep, the Redwood bar. The lobby. The entrance. Looks like it is not so busy, today. The main building. There we are, at the Sequoia Lodge. I think we are getting closer. The first sign for Disneyland Paris beside the highway.

Hattuchili
Photo-TR: Disneyland Paris - Disney Village Hey guys, next I want to talk about the Disney Village. This area is kinda like Downtown Disney at WDW or Disneyland. The Disney Village area is right between the Disney Hotels and the 2 Disney Parks. This means you have to walk through Disney Village on your way from the hotel to the parks or back. At the Disney Village you´ll find a couple restaurants, like the Rainforest Cafe, Planet Hollywood, a Steak House or Cafe Mickey where you can meet characters the whole day. You´ll also find some shops for various souvenirs and a dinner show called “Buffalo Bills Wild West Show”, which is kinda like the Dixie Stampede. We spent some time in that area and got dinner at some nice restaurants, like the King Ludwig´s Castle (German typ of food) and Cafe Mickey (characters dinner). We also got a couple souveniers that you´ll only find in that area. Okay, onto the pictures: - Disney Village --Soren Ballo came over to welcome us. - Next update will be about the Salon Mickey. My Pal Mickey. ... we came here for the characters dinner. Cafe Mickey... King Ludwig´s Caslte. The Disney Store. Annette´s Diner. ... Buffalo Bills Wild West Show. Planet Hollywood. In the evening it looks even better. ... The entrance to Disney Village. King Ludwig´s Castle. Billy Bob´s. Soon, they are going to open a Starbucks at this place. The Steak Hause. Divv3k
Great photos Soren! I was annoyed at myself for not taking photos of Sequoia Lodge when I stayed there on the Europe trip last year so this was a nice refresher of the place for me! I had forgotten how nice the lobby area was. Looking forward to the rest!
gunslinger
Love the Sequoia Lodge... Well, besides those couches. The Disney village looks a little... Uninspired during the day, but wow, those night photos are amazing. Great pictures!
Hattuchili
^ haha, I know what you mean and not only in the day. Disney Village in total looks a bit strange to me. I mean when you are going to Downtown Disney at Disneyland or WDW, then you´ll find a nicely themed area. The Disney Village is kinda different. They had a theming for that area in the beginning, but after a while they became uncomfortable with it and were trying to change a few things. Now it looks kinda like a mishmash of things that dosn´t really fit together. Anyway, you´ll still find some nice spots there to stay for a while. By the way, the couches at the Redwood bar are really comfy. --Soren

Hattuchili
Photo-TR: Disneyland Paris - Salon Mickey Hey everyone, now I want to talk about the Salon Mickey, a special location for Disneyland Paris Shareholders. Let me start at the beginning: The name Euro Disney still exist behind the Disneyland Paris brand. They changed the resort name from Euro Disneyland to Disneyland Paris, but the actual company behind everything is Euro Disney S.C.A.! I don´t want to get too much in all the details. However, if you are interested – here is a link to the companies site: Euro Disney S.C.A. Shareholders As soon as they started with Disneyland Paris, they wanted to bring the whole thing more to the people. They started the Euro Disney S.C.A. Shareholders Club in 1995, with the aim of providing relevant and timely information about the Company's financial performances and other regulatory notices, strengthening the Company's relationship with its shareholders and keeping them up-to-date with Company news. To join the Euro Disney S.C.A. Shareholders Club, you need to hold at least 5 new Euro Disney S.C.A. shares. As soon as you got your shares and did all the paperwork, you will get a nice member card with lots of wonderful discounts and privileges. How about 15% discounts in table service, buffet restaurants and boutiques!? There is even more and I don´t want to bother you with the whole list. Anyway, let´s come to the point. I wanted to tell you guys about the Salon Mickey. As a Euro Disney Shareholder, you´ll get access to this nice facility. Right beside the Guest Relation building outside of the Disneyland Park, is a inconspicuously door, the Salon Mickey. Once you made it through the crowds infront of it, just knock on the door and a very nice Cast Member will open it. After showing your Euro Disney S.C.A. Shareholders card, you´ll get access to the amenities. It is an area to relax, getting free breakfast with everything you can imagine and while you are sitting there and enjoying the food, the Cast Member will already take care of your tickets. After the breakfast you can leave the Salon Mickey trough the back door right into the Disneyland Park. Okay, onto the pictures: - Salon Mickey --Soren As soon as you leave Salon Mickey trough the back door, you´ll find yourself right inside the Disney Park. - Next update will be the Disneyland Park. Uhh, even the bathroom is themed! It all began with... ... Walt Disney. Please, can I take the fire place with me? I really like the theming of Salon Mickey. This is the seating area. Uhh, a kitchen with free drinks... There we are, welcome to the Salon Mickey. There it is. Let´s knock on the door. Anywhere there should be the Salon Mickey. Look at all the crowds at the entrance to the Disneyland Park.

Hattuchili
Photo-TR: Disneyland Paris - Disneyland Park / Entrance, Main Street, Castle Hey guys, time for another update. Acctually I am sure that I don´t need to tell you a lot about the Disneyland Park, since the main park is nearly the same all around the world. Some have a covered main street and call it World Bazar, others have just 4 themed lands so far. But in total they all have a castle and themed lands around it. However, there are a few unique things in this Disneyland Park, that you will not find at any other Disny park around the world: - First of all, you are entering the park under the huge Disneyland Hotel, not the Main Street Railroad Station. - Next you will not find a Tomorrowland in Paris. There it is called Discoveryland. Also the theming is a bit different. But more about that land in one of my next posts. - Another unique thing is the castle. So far you can find Cinderella´s castle in Florida and Tokyo, as well as Sleeping Beauty's Castle in Annaheim and Hong Kong. But the Sleeping Beauty Castle in Paris is the only one in that style. - Along Main Street U.S.A. they build one both sides behind the shops a covered walkway with access to most of the shops. With this addition, the guest are able to walk all the way down to the castle, Frontierland and Discoveryland, without getting wet. On crowded days there is also enough space to get the people very quick in and out of the park. Since I got lots of pictures from the Disneyland Park, I am going to split them up into a few different posts. Now, I am starting with the Entrance, Main Street U.S.A. and the Castle. Onto the pictures: - Disneyland Park / Entrance, Main Street, Castle --Soren Inside the arcade. - Thanks again for reading. More pictures coming, soon. Liberty Arcade, the second covered walkway. Inside the arcade. Discovery Arcade, one of the covered walkways. ... this window with the Disney brothers. We took a closer look at this one and found... ... ... ... ... ... ... Hattuchili
Photo-TR: Disneyland Paris - Disneyland Park / Frontierlnd, Adventureland Hey guys, let´s move on to another bunch of pictures from the Disneyland Park. A sharp turn to your left, on the hub infront of the castle and you have the choice of walking through Fort Comstock into Frontierland or walking through a Bazar into Adventureland. Both lands are similar in all the Disneyland Parks around the world, that´s why I think I don´t need to tell you a lot about it. However, there is one unique thing in Frontierland, too. For the Disneyland Paris version of Big Thunder Mountain, the Imagineers decided to make the attraction more exciting than ever by sending the mine trains back and forth under the water at full speed. The loading station of the attraction is at the waterside of the Rivers of the far West, but the acctual mountain in the middle of the lake. Tomorrow I´m going to post the last bunch of pictures from the Disneyland Park, incl. Fantasyland and Discoveryland. Hattuchili
Photo-TR: Disneyland Paris - Disneyland Park / Fantasyland, Discoveryland Hey everyone, Now it is time for the last bunch of pictures from the Disneyland Park. When you are walking right through the castle, then you are going to find yourself in the middle of Fantasyland. The unique thing in that area is, that most of the attractions are kinda covered or inside a building, since the weather in Paris is not as good as in Anaheim or Orlando. A sharp turn to your right, on the hub infront of the castle and you are going to enter the Discoveryland. At all the other Disneyland Parks around the world, this land is called Tomorrowland, but in Paris they changed it into Discoveryland. Since most of the Tomorrowland had always become quickly outdated, the Imagineers wanted to creat a truly timeless land. They wanted to develop a place outside of time, one that would encompass several versions of the future as well as the past. Discoveryland brings together different visions of Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Leonardo da Vinci and George Lucas. With it they created a land which is unique to Disneyland Paris. Space Mountain in Paris is also totally different to its brothers around the world. Acctually they wanted to name this attraction Discovery Mountain, but in the last few weeks before opening day, they decided to change the name to Space Mountain. Around and inside the attraction you will still find a lot of hints that direct you to the old name. This Space Mountain is the only one, which includes these elements: corksrew and sidewinder. Okay, onto the pictures: - Fantasyland, Discoveryland Next update will be about the Walt Disney Studios! --Soren The Hyperion in the background. - Thanks again for reading. Hattuchili
Photo-TR: Disneyland Paris - Walt Disney Studios Hey guys, next I want to continue with the Disneyland Studios. This is the newes park on property and opened in March 2002. Acctually it was planed as the Disney-MGM Studios Europe and should opened much earlier. But the first couple years were really hard for the Euro Disney company and they pushed back the whole project a couple times. Anyway, now it is there and keeps growing. Last year they just opened the Hollywood Tower Hotel and the Toon Studios. Right now it looks like they are going to open the Toy Story Playland next to the Toon Studios in 2010. Okay, onto the pictures: - Walt Disney Studios --Soren High School Musical was also performing. We really enjoyed the ride. Rock´n RollerCoaster. Hattuchili
Photo-TR: Disneyland Paris - An exclusive look, guided by Cast Member Hugo, of the Phantom Manor !!! Hey guys, Let me tell you a bit about the Phantom Manor. This attraction is called at every other park, the Haunted Mansion. Here the whole location and attraction in Frontierland has a different story. But more about it, later. One day a Cast Member, called Hugo, asked us about a guided tour throught the Phantom Manor attraction. He saw us wearing our a Hoodie and realized it is from his favourite coaster site in the internet. You can see, TPR is well known around the world. I need to tell you guys, it was really an awesome tour. Hugo played is role just perfect in every way. We were walking around the whole area and he was telling us the story behind the Phantom Manor. We really need to thank Hugo, again. Great job! Anyway, let me try to tell the story for you guys: Once upon a time.... Okay, I know that is maybe not the best start for this story. Let me try, again. Disneyland Paris / Frontierland: The whole story takes place in a town called Thunder Mesa, which surrounds Big Thunder Mountain. Mr. Henry Ravenswood was the wealthy owner of the Thunder Mesa Minning Company, the company that, so the story goes, operates the Big Thunder mine. Like many entrepreneurs who made their fortunes in this era, he built a mansion out West, inspired by the architecture of San Francisco – a style that certanly stood out in this little mining town. Phantom Manor sits at the edge of Thunder Mesa, in the well to do part of the town. In its heyday, the Manor was truly magnificent, before the mine had played out and the house fell into ruin. The magnificent splendor of the Phantom Manor interior is also a reminder that the owner was still at the height of his success. The mine was thriving, and he was proud that he had a beautiful daugther, named Melanie. She had fallen in love with an intelligent train engineer and was preparing for her wedding, but her fiance had plans to take her away from Thunder Mesa and live in another town, which enraged the young woman´s father. Henry did everything he could to stop the wedding but his useless attempts were put to a stop when he and his wife, Martha were killed in the Thunder Mesa earthquake of 1860. Their tombs can be found in the Boot Hill cemetery. The earthquake caused an explosion in the Big Thunder Mine, which fulfilled an ancient native Indian curse. According to legend, a Thunderbird protects the mountain. Plundering the mountain's riches angers the bird, which flaps its wings and causes the ground to shake. The earthquake happened as preparations were being made for the wedding of the Ravenswood's daughter, Melanie. Did Henry manage to prevent this, even from beyond the grave? On the day of the wedding, the groom never appeared. While the bride was preparing in her room the phantom (prop. The ghost of Henry Ravenswood) lured her suitor up to the attic where he hung him by the neck from the rafters. In the ballroom the bride sat alone. Hours went by with no sign of the groom. The guests slowly filed away, leaving the bride alone in the house with the staff of maids and butlers. The bride was so broken-hearted that she locked herself away for many years - or so it was thought. The phantom was still in the house, laughing at her humanly devotion to her intended husband. One by one he invited his dead, demonic friends from the afterlife to fill the house in an eternal party. Melanie Ravenswood never came out of the mansion. But she could be seen at the windows, still wearing her wedding dress. No one was sure if she was alive, or if she was already a ghost. People were too scared to investigate and started to call the house Phantom Manor. END I think that is it so far and I hope you liked the story. --Soren A last shot of the Pahntom Manor, from the Big Thunder Mountain. - Thanks again for reading. What is he brewing over there? How about some drinks and hot chicks? Poor Donkey. Anyone ready for some gambling? The Mayor welcomes us at the party. What direction did you say? Ahh, thanks... Some random coffin. Could these guys be the Ravenwoods? What a cute... Ahh, not really. The phantom or is it Henry Ravenswood? I am sure you know these guys. Melanie is still waiting for her fiance. Another picture of the bride. In Paris the head is not moving, yet. In the Florida version you are going to find the casket at this spot.
