Photo TR: The Johnsons Go To Wisconsin

Postby Erik Johnson » Sun Aug 13, 2006 7:30 pm

This was a bit of a nice "surprise" trip for us since as of a few weeks ago we had no plans to go anywhere this week. Since our other mega park trip fell through this year, this turned out to be a really great alternative. There are quite a few non-coasters/parks pictures in this Photo TR, but life is not all about coasters....isn't it? Anyways onto the pictures...
DSC08294.JPG
Crap, my lawn is going to be extra long when I get back.
DSC08295.JPG
I hate you lawn mower, I really do. Maybe I need to just buy a new one.
DSC08297.JPG
I has been a while since I have flown out of Orlando.
DSC08298.JPG
Unlike most people, we fly out of Florida for vacation.
DSC08301.JPG
Our bags are TPR approved. :)
DSC08303.JPG
Yeah, we are ready to start our vacation.
DSC08305.JPG
Yeah, it has been a while since I have been in a plane.
DSC08302.JPG
Just plain evil.
DSC08310.JPG
Though the airline has a little bit of a sense of humor.
DSC08314.JPG
Hey look, its the Wisconsin State Fair.
DSC08320.JPG
We landed in Milwaukee, only to find my parents waiting.
DSC08321.JPG
I am so ready for some food.
DSC08322.JPG
Yeah, its impossible to find sweet tea outside of the South.
DSC08323.JPG
Our homebase was in Racine, Wisconsin. Most famous for Kringle.....YUMMY!
DSC08325.JPG
Oh yeah, we filled up on this stuff all week as well.
DSC08326.JPG
OMG! The Wisconsin State Fair started while I was there!
DSC08327.JPG
And it is only about 15 minutes away from where I was staying.

Day 2:

Pictures!
DSC08328.JPG
We went over to East Troy, Wisconsin.
DSC08333.JPG
We get to ride an electric trolley ride.
DSC08332.JPG
I am sure a few TPR members would like to check this out.
DSC08340.JPG
Before our ride, we wanted to get some ice cream.
DSC08335.JPG
Many inventions came out of this area, including malt, and milkshake blenders.
DSC08336.JPG
Looks a bit dated, does it not?
DSC08337.JPG
Yep, Horlick is originally from Racine, Wisconsin.
DSC08338.JPG
The dork and his ice cream.
DSC08341.JPG
If you heard about any derailed trains in Wisconsin, it was not because of me.
DSC08342.JPG
There had a large collection of electric trolley cars in this building.
DSC08346.JPG
Yeah, I guess we are a bit of transportation buffs as well.
DSC08349.JPG
The only remaining electric trolley line in the Wisconsin/Illinois area.
DSC08354.JPG
All 2 miles of it.
DSC08352.JPG
Not very PC, is it?
DSC08356.JPG
"Gimme your tickets!"
DSC08355.JPG
"Ok, just do not beat me up, please."
DSC08359.JPG
Hey Benzo, how you doing?
DSC08363.JPG
These things actually travel pretty fast.
DSC08365.JPG
Ok, we made it to the other station.
DSC08366.JPG
Yes, it is a Farmer's market, I wonder if they have cheese inside.
DSC08367.JPG
No cheese yet.
DSC08369.JPG
I am getting closer.
DSC08370.JPG
See, it is Wisconsin cheese.
DSC08373.JPG
See, it is Wisconsin cheese.
DSC08374.JPG
What a super happy day...:)
DSC08377.JPG
We went back into Racine to go see a lighthouse.
DSC08378.JPG
All about this lighthouse, open to the public 4 days a year.
DSC08379.JPG
So exciting, isn't it?
DSC08380.JPG
I always thought these things were very cool.
DSC08386.JPG
Ready to go upstairs?
DSC08387.JPG
115 of these scary stairs.
DSC08390.JPG
Whew, made it to the top.
DSC08391.JPG
Pretty nice view from up here.
DSC08392.JPG
See, it is Lake Michigan.
DSC08394.JPG
I know those people down there.
DSC08398.JPG
Ok, so one nice photo in the trip report is
fine....I guess.
DSC08400.JPG
This is what the modern lighthouse light looks like now.
DSC08405.JPG
Slave labor.
DSC08406.JPG
The is where the Racine Belles played, ever seen A League of Their Own?
DSC08407.JPG
Well, I guess Madonna was in that movie, so it makes a lot of sense.

Day 3:

Ok, are you ready for some coasters? We really thought Six Flags Great America was a really great park. While the coaster collection is not the very best in the world, it is still decent though, the overall operations were top notch. Every single coaster was open the day were went so we were able to clear the park on our very first visit. Ok, onto the pictures.
DSC08412.JPG
Leanne is wearing her Supergirl shirt, it must mean one thing.
DSC08413.JPG
It is a coaster day!
DSC08415.JPG
Leanne's favorite coaster, Superman: Ultimate Flight.
DSC08416.JPG
Heck yeah! No coasters closed today.
DSC08417.JPG
It is always good to get to this park early.
DSC08418.JPG
They let us in the gates about 30 minutes before park opening.
DSC08419.JPG
There already started putting out Halloween stuff.
DSC08421.JPG
Holy crap, there are a ton of people behind us already.
DSC08422.JPG
Slyvester was happy to see us.
DSC08423.JPG
Our first credit of the day.
DSC08425.JPG
Notice the gum on the sign?
DSC08426.JPG
"Nothing is going to stand in my way to ride Superman."
DSC08427.JPG
Some nice theme park walking shoes, eh?
DSC08428.JPG
First train of the day.
DSC08429.JPG
Look at all those people behind us, already.
DSC08430.JPG
Superman is ready for its next batch of riders.
DSC08431.JPG
Here we go! Ready to take on that pretzel loop.
DSC08432.JPG
Yeah, that was kinda fun.
DSC08433.JPG
Yeah, all three Superman: UF's in one year. Leanne was really happy.
DSC08434.JPG
I still prefer Batman, myself.
DSC08436.JPG
Poor Skytower was not working today.
DSC08442.JPG
Holy crap, I may actually get lucky today.
DSC08443.JPG
Deja Vu, while it went down twice while in line, was running well. Only a 45 minute total wait time.
DSC08444.JPG
Two down, two more to go.
DSC08489.JPG
I love Vekoma's Deja Vu.
DSC08438.JPG
Look, more Halloween theming in Aug.
DSC08439.JPG
See what I mean?
DSC08445.JPG
Wonder Woman rocks.
DSC08446.JPG
Best $15 you can spend in the park.
DSC08441.JPG
"Hey Joe, how is it going?"
DSC08448.JPG
It's the Demon, best theme music ever for a coaster.
DSC08449.JPG
Arrow vertical loop goodness.
DSC08450.JPG
You can not use a Flash pass here, but with these awesome operations...you do not need one.
DSC08451.JPG
People were flowing like water through this queue.
DSC08453.JPG
Sorry, I do not see anyone's name backwards in this sign.
DSC08454.JPG
Yes, Six Flags Great America's employees totally rock. Good job!
DSC08456.JPG
I found this one to be my favorite coaster in the park.
DSC08460.JPG
It is very well maintained.
DSC08463.JPG
Plus they have spent some money on Viper's theming as well.
DSC08464.JPG
Just in case you forgot the name of the coaster.
DSC08465.JPG
Weeeeeeee.....
DSC08467.JPG
Two thumbs up for Viper.
DSC08468.JPG
I hope to ride this one again in a near future.

Here We Go!...5..4..3..2..

SFGam...Part 2.
DSC08484.JPG
Yeah, they got one of those B&M Hypers here.
DSC08471.JPG
Yep that is its name, Raging Bull.
DSC08472.JPG
We used our 2nd Flash Pass on this one. The first was used on Whizzer.
DSC08473.JPG
Sure beats waiting 45-60 minutes in line.
DSC08479.JPG
Here comes the train.
DSC08477.JPG
It was a pretty decent coaster.
DSC08457.JPG
Except for that blasted trim, it could have been a top ten ride.
DSC08480.JPG
Out of the 4 B&M Hypers in the United States, Raging Bull is my least favorite.
DSC08483.JPG
But it still takes a good picture.
DSC08482.JPG
Even while sitting down, eating lunch.
DSC08487.JPG
The Demon tried to sneak out of the tunnel to steal our souls.
DSC08490.JPG
Look, a farmer's market. I wonder if they have Wisconsin cheese.
DSC08491.JPG
More Halloween theming.
DSC08492.JPG
We both liked this one. Or both of them.
DSC08496.JPG
Here is the blue train, but we ended up liking red better.
DSC08498.JPG
Another well maintained wooden coaster, we like those.
DSC08502.JPG
Yep, got all three of those credits.
DSC08513.JPG
Oh dear, Iron Wolf.
DSC08514.JPG
So far the only stand up coaster I like is SFoG's The Georgia Scorcher.
DSC08515.JPG
This one did not change my opinion of these coasters.
DSC08517.JPG
Iron Wolf.
DSC08504.JPG
It is easy to miss out on this credit.
DSC08505.JPG
Yeah I know, but we went ahead and got it.
DSC08507.JPG
Pretty much a standard Vekoma skater.
DSC08511.JPG
But, it counts as a real coaster credit.
DSC08500.JPG
More Halloween theming.
DSC08519.JPG
The one that started it all.
DSC08521.JPG
I really do like these coasters.
DSC08520.JPG
Looks like I am not the only one.
DSC08525.JPG
So that is where the Bat Cave is.
DSC08537.JPG
These coasters are intense, even in the front row.
DSC08540.JPG
Inverts, what a great coaster style.

SFGam...part 3
DSC08536.JPG
Oh yeah, our very first Intamin impulse coaster.
DSC08532.JPG
We totally loved this one.
DSC08533.JPG
It was a lot faster than I was expecting, also it is very loud in the station.
DSC08503.JPG
I can't wait to try some of the other ones.
DSC08534.JPG
The extra hang time on the back spike was unexpected.
DSC08528.JPG
Pretty much a standard spinning mouse.
DSC08542.JPG
It had a little bit of theming.
DSC08529.JPG
Though I wish we could have used a flash pass on this ride. This took a while.
DSC08530.JPG
It did spin quite a bit.
DSC08543.JPG
Yeah, Leanne would rather take home Superman, rather than me.
DSC08547.JPG
The map said Stargate, boy were we wrong...:(
DSC08548.JPG
One final picture for Joe.
DSC08562.JPG
Yeah, we did finish off with this ride. It is a classic.
DSC08563.JPG
Thanks to Joe, we found this place.
DSC08564.JPG
Munchie time.
DSC08565.JPG
I can not eat as much as Joey though.
DSC08566.JPG
A good way to finish off a great day.

Ok onto the next day. We went to the most popular tourist spot in Wisconsin. Nope, not the Wisconsin Dells, The House on the Rock. It is kind of hard to explain this place, so I will do it in pictures:
DSC08567.JPG
Here we go again.
DSC08570.JPG
Even more expensive than Florida fuel.
DSC08571.JPG
Benzo was not home.
DSC08572.JPG
Where is it we are going to again? Oh yeah.
DSC08573.JPG
How about that as a flower pot?
DSC08574.JPG
You sure that is the way? I do not see a house.
DSC08575.JPG
I still do not see a house.
DSC08577.JPG
Well there is a building, but it still is not the house.
DSC08579.JPG
Awesome bathroom.
DSC08580.JPG
This is the start of one of many "large size" music/band machines.
DSC08583.JPG
Pretty.
DSC08584.JPG
I seem to be a bit too tall to be walking around this house. Oh well, I guess I can duck.
DSC08587.JPG
The coolest room in a house, ever.
DSC08586.JPG
You basically walk to the very end of this room.
DSC08585.JPG
The room kinda shakes a bit at this point.
DSC08588.JPG
Oh, you can better see what the Infinity Room looks like with this picture.
DSC08590.JPG
Another one of those music machines.
DSC08591.JPG
These things are huge.
DSC08593.JPG
I want a dragon table.
DSC08597.JPG
The infinity room, from outside and above.
DSC08598.JPG
Me just hanging around this Tiffany lamp. Though I am not sure if it is a real Tiffany lamp.
DSC08599.JPG
Oh yeah, after the house part you still have about 5 more hours of stuff to look at.
DSC08601.JPG
Such as silly things as this.
DSC08608.JPG
And yes, full room sized music machines.
DSC08615.JPG
They also have the world's largest merry-go-round.
DSC08618.JPG
Here are the stats. And no, you can not ride it...:(
DSC08617.JPG
Where to Mr. Wizard?
DSC08622.JPG
I see that Derek donated his collection.
DSC08628.JPG
See how big those things are?
DSC08624.JPG
No Derek, I did not try to steal one.
DSC08616.JPG
Donkey!
DSC08630.JPG
No, this one does not count as a credit.
DSC08631.JPG
Some people may still try to count it though.
DSC08635.JPG
Thousands upon thousands of items at this place.
DSC08642.JPG
This is the guy who built the place.
DSC08645.JPG
Yeah, more gardens.
DSC08651.JPG
A family photo.
DSC08646.JPG
Yeah, I am ready to go somewhere else after 6 hours.
DSC08649.JPG
Bye House on the Rock.
DSC08647.JPG
Oh cool, I hope the Midwest TPR meet includes this place.
DSC08661.JPG
Back on the road.
DSC08671.JPG
And thanks to Bob O., I am ready for the Wisconsin Dells.
DSC08670.JPG
Weekdays a much cheaper at the Dells. We got this place for under $50, yeah it was clean and convienent.
DSC08674.JPG
Plus if you got hungry, you could just cook yourself a horse.
DSC08675.JPG
We rather just go here though, it was less than a 1/4 mile from our hotel.
DSC08677.JPG
All of us enjoyed this place.
DSC08679.JPG
See how cool it is?
DSC08682.JPG
Poor Bullwinkle.
DSC08683.JPG
Oh yeah, that is where we are.
DSC08685.JPG
Not only do they brew beer, they make their own soda as well.
DSC08686.JPG
The Beer and Cheese soup was pretty good.
DSC08687.JPG
Yeah, this place is Canadian friendly.
DSC08688.JPG
I simply felt like a burger.
DSC08689.JPG
They also have pizza and pasta as well.
DSC08691.JPG
Yep, I am wearing the hat backwards.
DSC08667.JPG
Thank you Moosejaw.
DSC08654.JPG
I wonder what we could do the next day?

Mt. Olympus was a fun park. I wished we had more than 4 hours to explore it, but we were able to get all 7 credits as well as one of the go-kart tracks. Most of these pictures are video grabs so I am sorry about the quality.
M02.jpg
Yeah, its Hades.
MT1.jpg
Yeah, the name of the park is that.
DSC08694.JPG
First things, first.
MO4.jpg
Mt O. loves to build its stations way above the ground.
MO5.jpg
This guy was making sure all the nails were in its place.
MO6.jpg
First train on the day.
MO7.jpg
The drop out of the station has some bite to it, especially in the back row.
MO8.jpg
Next was Zeus.
MO9.jpg
This one was also pretty good.
M10.jpg
Again, another nice drop out of the station.
M11.jpg
Go-kart time.
DSC08696.JPG
These things were a lot of fun.
M12.jpg
Yeah, you could get some airtime on them.
M13.jpg
Hi Leanne.
M14.jpg
Cyclops was next. While very short, it was pretty intense.
M16.jpg
See what I mean?
M17.jpg
It must be for the wicked ejector airtime you get on this drop.
DSC08698.JPG
This was the longest wait of the day, if it was not a credit we would have skipped it.
DSC08699.JPG
Yeah, you get wet on this one.
M18.jpg
See what I mean?
M19.jpg
Pegesus was the lesser of the four wooden coasters.
M20.jpg
But just like the others, it too has a drop out of the station.
M21.jpg
Heh heh heh, hot dog men are funny.
M22.jpg
Kiddie coaster POV.
M23.jpg
They have go-karts for little kids as well.
M24.jpg
The keep the Disk-O outside during the summer.
M25.jpg
But this is the new edition, right here.
oly1.jpg
Opa! Opa! Opa!
oly2.jpg
It really did not spin much, for a spinning mouse.
oly3.jpg
For some reason, many people lose sandles while riding Hades.
oly4.jpg
Hades is a powerful coaster.
oly5.jpg
Good-Bye Mt O.
