Photo TR: The Johnsons Go To Wisconsin

Recommended Posts

This was a bit of a nice "surprise" trip for us since as of a few weeks ago we had no plans to go anywhere this week. Since our other mega park trip fell through this year, this turned out to be a really great alternative. There are quite a few non-coasters/parks pictures in this Photo TR, but life is not all about coasters....isn't it? Anyways onto the pictures...

DSC08327.JPG.2dbb26304f1d26e728db5fb928e2426e.JPG

And it is only about 15 minutes away from where I was staying.

DSC08326.JPG.12a15cc53d266a97f80abd6f8ed52c56.JPG

OMG! The Wisconsin State Fair started while I was there!

Day 3:

Ok, are you ready for some coasters? We really thought Six Flags Great America was a really great park. While the coaster collection is not the very best in the world, it is still decent though, the overall operations were top notch. Every single coaster was open the day were went so we were able to clear the park on our very first visit. Ok, onto the pictures.

DSC08468.JPG.bb0ee6c210d242f557980b23bb654142.JPG

I hope to ride this one again in a near future.

DSC08467.JPG.d48f55f37d22221d537aa01a853efa1b.JPG

Two thumbs up for Viper.

DSC08465.JPG.da5b5c5ef6bf61b9bf11ae21d7579b83.JPG

Weeeeeeee.....

DSC08464.JPG.232ebbc660ef6f1446dab4d99a12de52.JPG

Just in case you forgot the name of the coaster.

DSC08463.JPG.853fd5ff00ba55b4ec86f2309faec14c.JPG

Plus they have spent some money on Viper's theming as well.

DSC08460.JPG.b8e6d18792e94538301d8124020c9931.JPG

It is very well maintained.

DSC08456.JPG.ead66b04caf2bd495a614b89fe214786.JPG

I found this one to be my favorite coaster in the park.

DSC08454.JPG.547473dc99ca1dc82e6b930e915592d7.JPG

Yes, Six Flags Great America's employees totally rock. Good job!

DSC08453.JPG.898b06fc81e3305086fc4492cbeabfa2.JPG

Sorry, I do not see anyone's name backwards in this sign.

DSC08451.JPG.e113ae16188e1fb55f17240a3393989e.JPG

People were flowing like water through this queue.

DSC08450.JPG.862e210c727fede422fafdcf6b879f64.JPG

You can not use a Flash pass here, but with these awesome operations...you do not need one.

DSC08449.JPG.3ef961c182a06c9bcad79bed6c86ff67.JPG

Arrow vertical loop goodness.

DSC08448.JPG.7a2ace5b6153e55c9a7e828b7b543e4f.JPG

It's the Demon, best theme music ever for a coaster.

"Hey Joe, how is it going?"

DSC08446.JPG.48ae64333dedfeb77e64793e347365ce.JPG

Look, more Halloween theming in Aug.

DSC08489.JPG.3456a3c7a5f6371765b3fe4f834f0c66.JPG

I love Vekoma's Deja Vu.

DSC08443.JPG.9d7b57050fad1b1a5140087fee590c36.JPG

Deja Vu, while it went down twice while in line, was running well. Only a 45 minute total wait time.

DSC08442.JPG.6dce0b33fe8989e28619061f54019257.JPG

Holy crap, I may actually get lucky today.

Yeah, all three Superman: UF's in one year. Leanne was really happy.

DSC08432.JPG.f7f9f69771023c1fc90ea747bc227074.JPG

Yeah, that was kinda fun.

Slyvester was happy to see us.

DSC08421.JPG.15048f1fcb471f1ae609a66e3090b6bb.JPG

Holy crap, there are a ton of people behind us already.

DSC08419.JPG.21c7814b8afe9a167462f6d40e6c42fc.JPG

There already started putting out Halloween stuff.

DSC08418.JPG.3e924e4daa62343dea12f99435e7d643.JPG

They let us in the gates about 30 minutes before park opening.

DSC08417.JPG.0c692469f3c77211b832ea313578defd.JPG

It is always good to get to this park early.

DSC08416.JPG.2c3ecc3030527f62ca51e509b3c05447.JPG

Heck yeah! No coasters closed today.

Leanne's favorite coaster, Superman: Ultimate Flight.

DSC08413.JPG.8e3d77b873a4bedb445a63fd1e15fa57.JPG

Inverts, what a great coaster style.

DSC08537.JPG.482e3e1329a8e62a4bd371d38f92026e.JPG

These coasters are intense, even in the front row.

DSC08525.JPG.7106562ba04368bd7962ca951cea2981.JPG

So that is where the Bat Cave is.

DSC08520.JPG.d1f85282faba18d69c2afbf5760e6e51.JPG

Looks like I am not the only one.

DSC08521.JPG.9b12c8c521ab7d67ccd65140ca01b9c9.JPG

I really do like these coasters.

DSC08519.JPG.352ea3c21ff5aa3fdbbdff220cc415f0.JPG

The one that started it all.

DSC08500.JPG.1fb736dad44843b5610d8925c1e752e2.JPG

More Halloween theming.

DSC08511.JPG.f60376fe321691070de39dc7bee096df.JPG

But, it counts as a real coaster credit.

DSC08507.JPG.c187d81afc1da072775939f277509b3c.JPG

Pretty much a standard Vekoma skater.

DSC08505.JPG.e9e99d66e8f9f5e4a0b9f055f6f8e973.JPG

Yeah I know, but we went ahead and got it.

DSC08504.JPG.7be6ccacd1d5ea91471550fd0cc3556a.JPG

It is easy to miss out on this credit.

DSC08517.JPG.e6af1dacdaac49285bed141ffc1ba48a.JPG

Iron Wolf.

DSC08515.JPG.37157e48c7634781e53f7d70c9e23010.JPG

This one did not change my opinion of these coasters.

DSC08514.JPG.31a251efe3837e5afdcc499462b7e520.JPG

So far the only stand up coaster I like is SFoG's The Georgia Scorcher.

DSC08513.JPG.8e3defb9b236f591a448936a38161b2d.JPG

Oh dear, Iron Wolf.

DSC08502.JPG.d352bf4c9eaadc2a7024688205ed9f49.JPG

Yep, got all three of those credits.

DSC08498.JPG.a0f03988e12d76c2168faa3150c6e431.JPG

Another well maintained wooden coaster, we like those.

DSC08496.JPG.5de061bde9f91e555df968663a6e95be.JPG

Here is the blue train, but we ended up liking red better.

DSC08492.JPG.2a41675b36d9fef16c73a5def38015c0.JPG

We both liked this one. Or both of them.

DSC08491.JPG.ed66072e4bc734992e20c97d470b86bc.JPG

More Halloween theming.

DSC08490.JPG.e85a956305eb0eb355f9ab44525087fe.JPG

Look, a farmer's market. I wonder if they have Wisconsin cheese.

But it still takes a good picture.

DSC08480.JPG.40febfabe61520ea6dc520b36d41556a.JPG

Out of the 4 B&M Hypers in the United States, Raging Bull is my least favorite.

DSC08457.JPG.a4b375ca97257ee292c222a6de8cb2d9.JPG

Except for that blasted trim, it could have been a top ten ride.

DSC08477.JPG.54535bd22e88e5028d335a812864eaf0.JPG

It was a pretty decent coaster.

DSC08479.JPG.91dc0904a7ab22fa1775b669341390c2.JPG

Here comes the train.

DSC08473.JPG.f1d7e526010173c21ed8e229e52b8436.JPG

Sure beats waiting 45-60 minutes in line.

DSC08472.JPG.9219ee42e6037f1d098b74dbdae9a050.JPG

We used our 2nd Flash Pass on this one. The first was used on Whizzer.

DSC08471.JPG.93c8081b95f5b845da60035a0874c0bf.JPG

Yep that is its name, Raging Bull.

DSC08484.JPG.25b0611af72f44bb2b481bb41cfaf984.JPG

Yeah, they got one of those B&M Hypers here.

A good way to finish off a great day.

DSC08565.JPG.e245232d9ddbb52dab10d0d78c75d3b3.JPG

I can not eat as much as Joey though.

DSC08564.JPG.4dd2e67279bd2df089eecd5ac859e29d.JPG

Munchie time.

DSC08563.JPG.e7b91b1aba74a85971da9f69cc3ad6a7.JPG

Thanks to Joe, we found this place.

DSC08562.JPG.61af5f486d5cc44c576bc20e3653ad71.JPG

Yeah, we did finish off with this ride. It is a classic.

One final picture for Joe.

DSC08547.JPG.6b206f245e1a94078a931f9de2c43c3e.JPG

The map said Stargate, boy were we wrong...:(

DSC08543.JPG.af9e3ee3d2b0836ee3930226a368da8f.JPG

Yeah, Leanne would rather take home Superman, rather than me.

DSC08530.JPG.e86b7bed4016a7d4c5bdd76d1a6f682a.JPG

It did spin quite a bit.

DSC08529.JPG.e1fc9b6244de0d66f8c2009edc4e977c.JPG

Though I wish we could have used a flash pass on this ride. This took a while.

DSC08542.JPG.717b4928e1ec6645c8ad6f11d65f231a.JPG

It had a little bit of theming.

DSC08528.JPG.bfc52f20208e9cd6a1aceee024ea78ba.JPG

Pretty much a standard spinning mouse.

DSC08534.JPG.c6e9b93034c99ba81fe6768095baae28.JPG

The extra hang time on the back spike was unexpected.

I can't wait to try some of the other ones.

DSC08533.JPG.1fb278061eb049d5269d573007492e6f.JPG

It was a lot faster than I was expecting, also it is very loud in the station.

DSC08532.JPG.0e7dc5a947633656768699a11e17cdcc.JPG

We totally loved this one.

Oh yeah, our very first Intamin impulse coaster.

Ok onto the next day. We went to the most popular tourist spot in Wisconsin. Nope, not the Wisconsin Dells, The House on the Rock. It is kind of hard to explain this place, so I will do it in pictures:

DSC08654.JPG.b75f793a748235b085de9d1d44b116e0.JPG

I wonder what we could do the next day?

DSC08667.JPG.d6419ecd8e29f087df6a50465b136eba.JPG

Thank you Moosejaw.

DSC08691.JPG.983246207045443392773c5a6405d546.JPG

Yep, I am wearing the hat backwards.

DSC08689.JPG.aa4e3d29e274d79e03233f0893a2c2f5.JPG

They also have pizza and pasta as well.

DSC08688.JPG.50f64d4f6e10ccbd50d5625da934fe9d.JPG

I simply felt like a burger.

DSC08687.JPG.742ed3849d292f192577278981e23107.JPG

Yeah, this place is Canadian friendly.

DSC08686.JPG.65978eb9300eb0681c21a7775e89b374.JPG

The Beer and Cheese soup was pretty good.

DSC08685.JPG.56c25c36bfb3af228db8eed314e4db6e.JPG

Not only do they brew beer, they make their own soda as well.

DSC08683.JPG.7e8c415e8e2541d9f19b91f00df991f8.JPG

Oh yeah, that is where we are.

DSC08682.JPG.36594c12c22b3a0f643bf14d6cbcab8a.JPG

Poor Bullwinkle.

DSC08679.JPG.8742328d1014945c148b00afadbf8fb5.JPG

See how cool it is?

DSC08677.JPG.6490aabe17f096003e03ef6d7772c175.JPG

All of us enjoyed this place.

DSC08675.JPG.837db683547ee2c76d172345005ea606.JPG

We rather just go here though, it was less than a 1/4 mile from our hotel.

DSC08674.JPG.79dffb5410823b98248e63a797af23cb.JPG

Plus if you got hungry, you could just cook yourself a horse.

DSC08670.JPG.23e42b592247371fa67ffb47e5b4f4ef.JPG

Weekdays a much cheaper at the Dells. We got this place for under $50, yeah it was clean and convienent.

DSC08671.JPG.75592850f7684bb1c1cb9d43d9f3b539.JPG

And thanks to Bob O., I am ready for the Wisconsin Dells.

Back on the road.

DSC08647.JPG.b80b57f28d0664b6b7f1333701b6744b.JPG

Oh cool, I hope the Midwest TPR meet includes this place.

DSC08649.JPG.c87441313dc54d38a920b0823000fe9e.JPG

Bye House on the Rock.

DSC08646.JPG.a9ab2a65dfdc9405823d0ddb3a3c6a7d.JPG

Yeah, I am ready to go somewhere else after 6 hours.

DSC08651.JPG.4eefef50f8772308e180dfda5a470a01.JPG

A family photo.

DSC08645.JPG.bbb80eed147a7f9cbedd33cded1cb588.JPG

Yeah, more gardens.

DSC08642.JPG.fb29a3fa5a22d680c640c859a04d5175.JPG

This is the guy who built the place.

DSC08635.JPG.b37fe76afc5bb4e700a5544e434bb926.JPG

Thousands upon thousands of items at this place.

DSC08631.JPG.d5b2f7392758cf4b9b3b81b552efe81f.JPG

Some people may still try to count it though.

DSC08630.JPG.9b87b6297ab1ff12743aba9184533a4a.JPG

No, this one does not count as a credit.

I see that Derek donated his collection.

Here are the stats. And no, you can not ride it...:(

They also have the world's largest merry-go-round.

And yes, full room sized music machines.

DSC08601.JPG.2f943719780a433721cb6cc6df963347.JPG

Such as silly things as this.

DSC08599.JPG.a886b181c20d42a80623e43ecbd09541.JPG

Oh yeah, after the house part you still have about 5 more hours of stuff to look at.

DSC08588.JPG.67b114397c9685fc4b74e00f3595ce11.JPG

Oh, you can better see what the Infinity Room looks like with this picture.

DSC08585.JPG.340243e4cf55c8ef34b7bcbfaa93a812.JPG

The coolest room in a house, ever.

I seem to be a bit too tall to be walking around this house. Oh well, I guess I can duck.

I still do not see a house.

You sure that is the way? I do not see a house.

Here we go again.

Mt. Olympus was a fun park. I wished we had more than 4 hours to explore it, but we were able to get all 7 credits as well as one of the go-kart tracks. Most of these pictures are video grabs so I am sorry about the quality.

M25.jpg.c55ebbf54af433c5a85a46756236b8b8.jpg

But this is the new edition, right here.

The keep the Disk-O outside during the summer.

M23.jpg.7291285d2f386cf45284388e7e3b0642.jpg

They have go-karts for little kids as well.

Heh heh heh, hot dog men are funny.

M20.jpg.579afbf8a354764c83d15b24d43e6516.jpg

But just like the others, it too has a drop out of the station.

Pegesus was the lesser of the four wooden coasters.

Yeah, you get wet on this one.

DSC08698.JPG.b6336029ccfaa80834522960497cf096.JPG

This was the longest wait of the day, if it was not a credit we would have skipped it.

M17.jpg.858912eea826ab88298d32565a96cfb2.jpg

It must be for the wicked ejector airtime you get on this drop.

See what I mean?

Cyclops was next. While very short, it was pretty intense.

Hi Leanne.

M12.jpg.c70866144815547ad81cd956092bff17.jpg

Yeah, you could get some airtime on them.

After Mt. O we went to get some lunch and did the two hour Upper Dells boat tour. After all of that we finished up the day with an awesome ride on the Avalanche at Timber Falls:

Timber6.jpg.4cb6f9fdf861ec9eb35162983e1f4a00.jpg

I liked it quite a bit myself.

Timber5.jpg.e7a6eb28ee21bb8f07c609fb69d8f7b4.jpg

It turned out to be Leanne's all time favorite wooden coaster.

Timber4.jpg.c1191855903bb2579abfb9dc8549437a.jpg

This little coaster has amazing speed and airtime.

Timber3.jpg.9e3d9ccd66ef968194b8ffa4c875f588.jpg

Timber2.jpg.24cfc502ee9203b93ad36d832505aa2b.jpg

Yes, that is Timber Falls.

Make sure you do not miss The Avalanche at Timber Falls.

I got tons of video of the Dells Boat Ride, but only one high quality photograph. Oh well.

We though wolves eating McDonalds was pretty funny.

Upon closer inspection, you can tell it is another place of eating.

Awesome photos. Avalanche does kick incredible amounts of ass, and is in my Top 10 (above Hades).

If anyone has ever read Neal Gaiman's "American Gods" they should recognize The House On The Rock, as it plays an important role in the book. It looks like the sort of place I'd have to leave in about 20 minutes due to sensory overload, but I'm glad you took pictures of it, as I was sort of curious to know what the place looked like.

Yeah, House On The Rock certianly wears you out after a visit. After I edit a short video together, I will post it on the site. Photographs really do not capture the place very well. I agree with Avalanche, it turned out to be my favorite coaster in the Dells as well.

Great trip report Eric, I really like how it wasn't all about coasters. Have you been on all of the superman's (not just the flying ones) out of all of them I think that SROS at SFNE and SKC at SFFT are the best. Very well done trip report again!

^ Yeah, I've seen that place on the Travel Channel before. Cool to see it in a TR.

I'm curious, has that carousel ever operated, or was it just constructed for looks?

I believe it was constructed just for looks. I have been to the House on the Rock 3 times so far, the first being in 1986. Even back then you could not ride it.
