Canobie Fan Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 Ok… This is the first part in my long Midwest Coaster Trek Trip Report… At first I was going to post it all at once….. But as for now its 35 pages long in MSWord…. And im still not done… So I'm just going to post it day by day…… Ok so…. I got up in Boston on June 4th and flew down to Memphis… Hung around the start up point... Watched a movie ate some food… and then went to the first park of the trip. Day 1(the 4th) - Libertyland - Memphis Tennessee Got to the park around 5.30pm on the 4th. The park looked nice but small and it didn't look like that many people were at it… So lines shouldn't be too long. The first thing I went to was Zippin Pippin. They did not let you wait for a row so I ended up getting the front row of the back car. Zippin Pippin... Type - Wood. Year - 1923. Kind - Out-n-Back The ride starts out with a turn from the station then to the lift hill. After the lift hill it makes a turn and goes down the first drop. The drop is ok but not that great. Then it comes up and makes a turn and starts to head out along side the parking lot. Then after a few more hills turns around and heads back to the station. The ride has a lot of air time and was a very fun ride. After that I went down passing a few flat rides and headed to the Revolution. A steel looping coaster in the back of the park. This ride also didn't let you wait for a row. So I let people pass me till the train was full. So I could get a front row seat. Revolution Type - Steel Year - 1979 Kind - Corkscrew with loop. This is just and Arrow corkscrew that has a vertical loop in it. Just like Steamin' Demon at The Great Escape. The ride didn't bang your head that much. So I guess it was ok. But it's just a little corkscrew so whatever. After that I walked around the park and took some photos. I found the parks last coaster..... The Dragon Wagon.... They wouldn't let you on this coaster unless you had a kid... So after I bugged the ride op... Saying how I came from Boston and that I was in ace and stuff like that..... She still wouldn't let me on.... So then I did a very dirty thing.... I said "I'll give you $1.00!" and she was still all "I aint want ya money"...So then me being a loser I said... I'll give you $20!" and she was all "OK!! ! " So I got on... or tried to.... Dragon Wagon Type - Steel Year - ?? Kind - Kiddie. Yeah... So I get to the train and find out I didn't fit in....So... I sat on my knees sideways on the floor... still not on the seat... Or with the seatbelt on... but I was "in"... The ride started... and went around 3 or 4 times. I was holding my cam in one hand and myself in with the other... YAY!!!! I GOT THE DRAGON WAGON! ! ! ! ! ! .........yup... So after doing that I went over to the Paratrooper ride. It was loading so I got in line... Then it went down and they took everyone off... So I went down to the looping ship ride. I got on and took my ride. The kid in back of me on the ride kept screaming "SHUT YO ASS UP SHUT YO ASS UP!" and "MY ASS OUT THE SEAT! MY ASS OUT THE SEAT!" the full ride. I guess he was yelling at the girls in back of him. After that I went over and got one more ride on Pippin. This time I was also in the back seat. It was still a fun ride. After that I went to the end of the park where the little freefall tower was. Rebellion is the parks 90 foot tall Fabbri tower. I took 3 laps on the ride. It might be short but the drop on it is better then some S&S towers I have been on.... Yeah so after that it was almost time to go. So I went back down to pippin and this time they were letting people wait for a row. So I took the front seat on it. After that I went back to the tower and got in line. But the ride closed as I was in line. And for some reason this park doesn't do the "If you're in line you ride" rule most parks have... So when the park closed... They just told everyone to get out of line...... Yeah so that was my day at Libertyland. Overall the park is nice and has a few good rides. Zippin Pippin is the best ride in the park and I think it's very under rated for being the 2nd oldest coaster in the US. The park seems to be doing ok but also seems to be somewhat poor. If you were in the area I would say go to the park. But I don't think I would go out of my way for it. The turn around on Pippen The first drop on Rev Dragon Wagon POV! One of the many odd trashcans in the park.. The cool drop tower...
jonathan h Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 Whats with that drop tower. It looks like a Fabbri drop tower but with only half a catch car and only half of the seats. Strange...
coasterdude5 Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 The tower is weird. I've been on it about 200 times. It has a low capacity because of only six seats. But it's still pretty fun. For Memphis anyway.
