Is anyone else reminded of the Wooden Indian on "Creep Show" that tried to kill people?

Quassy has sent us a large update on construction of their newest addition, the Wooden Warrior!

The wild and fun turnaround on the new “Wooden Warrior” roller coaster at Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury, Conn., is shown during this phase of construction on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010 in photos 001, 002, 003, 006. The turnaround will be enclosed in a tunnel when completed. The sharp banking as the coaster dives into the turn will add more thrills before the train emerges for another drop and makes its way back to the station!

Look at the lift hill while the first drop starts to take shape.

Twisted! The lower track leaves the loading station before making its way up the incline, while the portion of framework shown above it will cross over not only the coaster, but also the park’s train ride.

I'm excited for this coaster. Haven't been to Quassy in eight years. And will this be the first new coaster in Connecticut for over 10 years?

If you want to get really obscure, no. But for all intents and purposes, yes. As I might be going to university in Connecticut, I am excited.

This looks like a fantastic little coaster. Looks to me like it will have a few nice hills and quick sharp turns. Should be a great addition to this small park.

Looks like this'll be reason enough to make a little side journey over to Quassy when I next hit Lake Compounce.

This is looking really cool already. I'm only about 90 minutes away from Quassy. If I can escape for an afternoon, I'll drive over there and see if there are any kosher photo ops.

Considering how much the Yankee Cannonball packs for such a small ride, yeah, I think this will be pretty potent.

I have a backyard coaster fetish so this thing is just beautiful to me.

Holy shnikes! This definitely looks a whole lot better than the No Limits video I saw of this. I agree that it does look aggressive for a kiddie coaster, but that's alright! Can't wait to ride it next year!

^ Remember - they are calling it a "Family" coaster rather than a "Kiddie." They used to mean roughly the same thing to me, but the more I go to parks with TPR, the more I learn the difference.

This looks like a lot of fun and I look forward to riding it next summer (bearing no problems with construction) on the North East tour!

I've never been on a thrilling woodie quite so short, but I've realized there's potential for a wide range of experiences when working with a shorter height. In the under-60' category, Pegasus is very tame, whereas Cornball Express and Coaster Thrill Ride are just as intense as any other woodie.

Quassy has sent us another construction update for the Wooden Warrior, this one showing off the season's first snowfall around the ride.

Work on the “Wooden Warrior” roller coaster at Quassy Amusement Park, Middlebury, Conn., continued Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, after the season’s first snowfall. The ride, designed by The Gravity Group of Cincinnati, Ohio, will open for the park’s 103rd season in 2011. The family ride will be the first wooden roller coaster to operate at Quassy and is part of a multi-year improvement plan. Funding for the coaster project provided by TD Bank.

There is something so relaxing about seeing a GCI covered in snow.

Replace the GCI with Gravity Group.
