Busch Gardens Tampa Bay (BGT Discussion Thread)

p. 375: Phoenix Rising family inverted coaster announced for 2024!

Recommended Posts

^What I am most curious about is, how is Intamin and the park determined how the ride will be going at rate fast enough to crest the top, and be only gong 10 mph through the 8. I have always guessed that some form of trims would be placed at the top to moderate its speed...

The same way neither Top Thrill Dragstor nor Kingda Ka don't fling guests over the top hat.

I think it's called engineering.

There are a lot of rides that do exactly that. Like Wild Thing* at Valleyfair. It's a fairly fast ride until you get to the big turnaround. Of course, the absolute best ride at going fast and then going slower than a crawl is Grizzly at CGA.

*Edited because I was in idiot and put Steel Venom!

The turnaround looks totally cool and unique...but I agree, the transition into the first turn looks...weird.

Regardless, I have yet to ride an Intamin that I didn't adore, so I can't wait to experience this next year!

When a coaster train goes uphill, it loses speed. Shocking indeed. So when the train crests to the top of the 8, it will be going slower than it did a couple seconds earlier! Hope that's clear enough...

I think the new element looks great! I can't wait for those banners etc. to be added to the ride!

I don't think Intamin actually creates the name of the ride. This is more likely done by Busch Gardens.

I was under the impression that Busch supervised the design of the ride's theming.

THIS.

Why would you want to be going fast around turns with such small amounts of roll anyway?

If you'll pardon my analogy, it's like a Cheetah, sprinting really fast, then getting tired and taking a break, then starting to run again.

Awesome new shots of that Figure-8 element; thanks!... Yeah, may need to add this one just below the new Texas Giant on the "Must Ride 2011" list.

[i'm getting very squirmy thinking about what BG Europe/Williamsburg/TheOldCountry has up its multi-launched sleeve... ]

^Don't consider it a bashing... I think you've been here long enough to realize that everyone has to have a sense of humor about things here. Even questions or statements that may seem dumb can be laughed at at some point.

Trust me, people are still laughing at me for some of the things I said years ago on this forum... But now, I just laugh with them. It works really well, I promise!

Thanks for the bashing guys... I was only asking a question.

Sensitive much?

Okay, now you are just confusing me...

Anyways, you are correct in that Busch has input about the ride's theming. More than likely Busch approached Intamin with the idea and then Intamin ran with that and made the design you see today.

The point I was trying to make is that Intamin did not create the name of the ride, that was Busch. From your original statement, you implied that Intamin made great rides but their naming left something to be desired. At least, that is how I interpreted it.

Don't worry Adam, none of us even remember your wheelchair seat comments.

No really, none of us!

It finally warmed up and it was a beautiful day so I took a quick drive to Tampa after work this afternoon to check the progress and get a few more photos. Not much new from the photos posted of the Figure 8 element, and really not much else new to show but here's what I could get. Enjoy.

Hey guys. I was wondering if any of you who work or have worked at Busch Gardens Tampa know if they ever hire for attractions on their webpage or if it's better to go drop off an application there.

I moved back to Florida in August (Lakeland) after my fiancee got a teaching job down here and I was back working at Universal as an attraction lead for a little bit. However, I was putting 100 miles on my car a day and making very little so I ended up leaving and I'm a manager at a store in Lakeland now. I really miss the theme park environment and would love a part time job there a couple days a week.

We don't know too many people here so with my fiancee's job taking up most of her life I'm very BORED so a second job would be awesome. So if any of you know anything about getting a job there let me know. I've been watching their job page for 4 months and they never seem to be hiring for the low level button pushing jobs on that webpage. Universal on the other hand is ALWAYS hiring for something.. so either people NEVER leave BGT or they hire for attractions in some other way.

Any advice? Thanks!
