Question for anyone who can help:

I have never been to Knott's Merry Farm but will be in town in 2 weeks.

1. Is it anything special?
2. What are crowds like in December? Perhaps the weekend of December 11th? Friday night -- Saturday day -- Saturday night -- Sunday day -- Sunday night? Which is best?
3. I'm going to be fortunate enough (I think) to take advantage of their police and firefighter promotion (of which I am one) and I'm looking forward to free admission for me and a guest, even though I have my Platinum Pass. ;)

I'm also planning to do Castle and SFMM one of those days as well. If anyone has advice on crowds, and which days would be best, I'd be grateful!

Any help is appreciated.

I enjoy Knotts best when its either Scary Farm or Merry Farm mostly because there are so many additional activities going on.

1. From the plays in the Birdcage Theatre to the Snoopy on Ice Christmas Show and the scarier-than-halloween Elf Mountain overlay on the log ride, there's tons o fun during the holidays at KBF. There's also a craft fair(if you are into that sort of thing) and lots of other special holiday entertainment in the park as well.

2. December weekends will be busy mostly because Toys for Tots is going on. I'd suggest going early and staying late if you want to do all the rides plus see the holiday entertainment. Back in 2006 we did the second Sunday and it was pretty crazy. Last year we did a weekday and it wasnt too bad. This year we are going on Tuesday, Dec 15th so it shouldnt be that bad (at least during the daylight hours).

3. SFMM is only open weekends until the weekend before Christmas and Castle Park only has its rides open on Saturday and Sunday...not sure if they are doing a special holiday schedule though.

Thanks! I did Scary Farm this year and got extremely lucky. I had done all 11(?) haunts in less than 2 hours, including multiple front seat rides on Ghostrider without getting up!

I'm really interested in the idea of Merry Farm -- I was just hoping someone could give me some serious info on it.

So thanks! Any more help is appreciated.

^This link has a rundown on the specifics for this year....

Ultimately, walking around it will be a normal day in the park save for the craft fair and the parade which is ghetto fabulous.

Usually late afternoon. Last time I saw it, it stepped off around 3 or 4p...before it got dark for sure. Its not a very long route, so its possible to miss it entirely if you stay out of Ghost Town and Calico Square.

In other news....

An update on the Knotts website now lists Xcelerator closed until at least January 31, 2010. I only hope something can be done quicker and they can finally get it back up and running again. That area of the park seems so ghostly quiet now. Anyway, the sooner the better, for the park and it's guests.

Do you ever think the more it's closed than the more the public will be hesitant to ride it when it reopens? They should be working ASAP to get it open!

^Who says they're not? I'm sure the park is doing everything within their power to get the ride back up. But we never found out the severity of the initial incident so we don't know the extent of the damage or what needs to be fixed.
