Photo TR: Monster Mansion is now OPEN!

Recommended Posts

Hey TPR!

I just got back from a wonderful trip to one of my all time favorite Six Flags parks, Six Flags Over Georgia. In case if you did not know, they just re-opened their classic dark ride Monster Plantation with a slew of new effects, lighting, and sound. Monster Plantation, which is now renamed Monster Mansion, is considered to be the absolute premier dark ride that Six Flags has ever created for any park. I honestly think most of you will be impressed in what they have done to fix up this classic ride. This report will also be a general park update which I have to say turned out to be one of the best visits to the park I have had yet.

I think this has been redone.

Speaking of boats, they hold about 6 people.

They do take an onride photo of your boat.

Here are some of the new signs.

Monster Mansion (Plantation) is considered to be the very best dark ride that Six Flags has produced.

DSC07729.JPG.653992c45b8e86dcd0c3017337e7426b.JPG

I am planning on visiting all three original Six Flags parks this year. This was the second one built.

This little guy is considered to be the ride's mascot.

A classic dark ride has been reborn for 2009, Monster Mansion.

They have one of these in case you decided to bring a pet with you.

DSC07719.JPG.b2a71cae2751346f6a7eb9df0fee73bc.JPG

Mmmmmm....Mindbender. Still one of my favorites.

Noted!

Only open during October now.

DSC07775.JPG.ce512dce18ffc879ada5a1b24c61a985.JPG

But they no longer run it in the dark with its special light package anymore.

DSC07773.JPG.d9cc5854ce6e66738da19068de4610ee.JPG

I never ridden the indoor Scrambler before.

DSC07772.JPG.6a36478b6f46f242a2e4191a5b6e6b3b.JPG

I think they were running it in maintenance mode today, because this simply was pathetic.

DSC07770.JPG.0325da547d7df6b00b6b1816aa91ab55.JPG

Normally I find this wave swinger to be really good.

Wheeeee!

DSC07767.JPG.5a5f4b7d05bdf252be0ea09ba147561b.JPG

Every single one of these Batman coasters rock. And yes they are intense.

DSC07769.JPG.e9836faa81fa0b5e1eeb1393a9e7743b.JPG

I can't imagine to see this full.

DSC07766.JPG.4e36daff8c41d8cfc345b0307051d300.JPG

I never noticed the warehouse extended queue trash cans before. This does make them easier to clean.

I love these coasters.

Its still my favorite Schwarzy, but I still need to ride Shockwave over at SFOT.

Looks like ACE came by an dropped this off last year.

Mindbender simply still rocks. They run it pretty the same as opening day.

When you exit the ride, you walk right past the back of Monster Mansion.

Here is what the station looks like.

While it was running well, the trim after the helix was on pretty hard today.

This is what the line looked like at 1:30pm.

Even though it was a holiday weekend, the weather kept a lot of people away.

Ok, let us head on over to Goliath.

DSC07818.JPG.82c2ddef112d1af90886b5dd8dee899d.JPG

I rode it twice, its running great this year. Well, for me it is!

DSC07814.JPG.6a86d192ad793a85ada469982eadbfdc.JPG

This is the 4th drop. Those who have ridden it know what I am talking about.

DSC07812.JPG.c9c9c9674d22ff866e642d01a4fa5499.JPG

Just make sure you ride in the first row of the last car, otherwise you will be in a lot of pain.

DSC07813.JPG.378f2c8cc49ff4ac77790b48ae5ab694.JPG

This coaster has some of the most extreme jolting airtime that you will ever experience.

DSC07810.JPG.db2acf37599e176c51b3a7a3cfbbd721.JPG

Oh yes! While most will not agree with me, I really like this one.

DSC07808.JPG.7164b44558c3c709f17a652efca4bc7d.JPG

Was there a name change a while back? I thought these used to be called the Confederate Sky Buckets.

It was the second mine train built by Six Flags, it is the first coaster in the park as well.

DSC07800.JPG.c558bb0eccaa01610f439b395be97db9.JPG

I do not know how to say the name of this ride, but the mine train is now on Flash Pass.

DSC07799.JPG.eb4245a8a02d0d5aee4199a42a9fa0c3.JPG

Something seems different.

DSC07745.JPG.3099299ed7a4237d9728a4ef4f97aea6.JPG

We see you Goliath, we did ride it three times today.

DSC07858.JPG.79415e2eea424def5804a0ee0b7779da.JPG

Most of the coaster is over the lake.

DSC07838.JPG.667e15dca8a39712bf95419330a594f3.JPG

I have not ridden this one in a few years.

Yes, that is pretty much it for Thomas Town.

And some other odd attractions.

I think it pretty much has the same layout at the others.

Here they go up.

Ready for dispatch.

It looks like old Superman has been out in the sun too long.

DSC07848.JPG.e7ad0ad023b9272fab42eefb91334d0a.JPG

The rest of the coaster is really nothing too special.

DSC07847.JPG.1d7d9150b9cfa72e35430cf364a8be4b.JPG

Pretzel Loops are quite intense if you never experienced one before.

DSC07845.JPG.e617039ef3aecb19fb760c0692fb6bae.JPG

Since I just rode Manta, I can be a geek and say I have ridden the oldest and newest pretzel loops in the world in the same week.

The first B&M flyer in the country.

This classic shot is a bit ruined by the skycoaster.

DSC07842.JPG.6f137484e2bc57464bd3dfbc4333c044.JPG

Also make sure you brace yourself for the brake run.

DSC07840.JPG.2965a1bfc6a80b429ad80266530f0488.JPG

Just make sure you ride in the middle row of a car, otherwise you will not like it.

DSC07839.JPG.efd99675d890358c784b88c5060fff6d.JPG

Since 1973, this one has been thrilling coasters riders.

DSC07856.JPG.1957bbba66af8088eaefa55453099b10.JPG

This one also has a magic seat. First row of the last car.

Heading back into the station.

It does have a really different layout.

Great PTR, Erik!

Cyclone, last car...front bench. That's why it's one of my top woodies. Crazy ejector air!

Does Goliath really have a new trim on the way down the third drop? I remember someone telling me they added it this year, and it makes the helix seem like nothing compared to what it used to be. Which was AWESOME.

I miss the park!

The good...

Tons of awesome high quality pictures!

Some really interesting facts about the ride that I never knew before

SF's wonderful job of upgrading old, dated rides to modern standards

The bad...

My computer won't load the huge amount of pics. What's with people posting tons of pics into a single post anyway? I'm gonna wait until tomorrow to view the rest.

Overall awesome job!!

There isn't a trim on the third drop (Which is the best part of the ride). The trim comes after the bottom of the spiral down helix. It has always been there since day one, but not on as hard.

The "Mansion Makeover" looks pretty awesome. I love that face in the fog as you go into the marsh.

But, as another poster said, I too will miss the dilapidated look the ride had. Made it look more historic, along with the name "Plantation". It had a more Southern feel too it.

I deffinately wanna try and make it there this year. I haven't been there since just after the removal of The Great Gasp! (sad, ain't it??). And I don't live but like 30 min at the most from it! Reason being is just haven't really had the money to go. I had a car note, and paying on that plus other bills made it kinda hard to go. But it's all paid off and hopefully, I should be able to go this summer

Looking forwards to going to this park in July, how does Goliath compare to Behemoth?

Goliath technically is not a B&M Hyper, though its a bit taller than a mini-Hyper. While I thought it was fun riding it yesterday, I do prefer Behemoth. Behemoth is still my favorite B&M Hyper, even over the brand new one, Diamondback.

^ For me, Goliath is much worse than Behemoth. But then again, I'm not much of a B&M hyper guy.

Me neither, they are fun rides but I prefer Intamin ejector air. Everytime they announce another B & M hyper I'm a little sad because I'm wishing they spent all that money on an Intamin hyper.

I do not know how to say the name of this ride, but the mine train is now on Flash Pass.

I'd have thought something like pronouncing "Talladega", and it looks like Scott confirmed it. Also, my general favourite seat is the first row of the last car, but of all the wooden coasters I've ridden (see: 9) I've always chosen the very front row out of fear of becoming a broken cadaver in any other.
