Wow - these are cool to see. I especially love the Six Flags Over Georgia advert for their parachute tower with the model and diagram. Advertising was very different back then! Very nice.

Valleyfair!

Back in 1980 this park, which was recently purchased by Cedar Point, was starting to show the influence of it's new owners with the addition of the Corkscrew. A slightly modified version of its cousin at Cedar Point. The picture shown in the brochure is obviously from Knott's Berry Farm

When I asked Shane if he'd mind if I took the time travel machine out for a spin, he said, "Sure...go for it!". I cranked up the engine, and with many a sputter, clank, and whirrr, the machine came to life and immediately took me to a place deep in the heart of the southern USA, "The Land Of Screams And Dreams" circa 1978...

These are great - I love the way the parks used to advertise. I just had a question: did Six Flags Over Georgia once have a dolphin/sea life show? It seems there are jumping dolphins in just about every park brochure from the 70s...

Worlds of Fun

Here is the last brochure of my 1980 series, Worlds of Fun. 1980 was a huge year for this park a they introduced Orient Express, the coaster that really put this park on the map. Shame that it is no longer part of their coaster line up. If you would like to see more on the Orient Express click here

Orient Express was probably the best addition made to any park in the 1980 season

Shane,

Is there any way I could take a gander at the Valleyfair! Brochure in Person or Get a High Res Scan of that "Trolley"?

- Sid

Sure thing. I will send it to you in high res. Why, are you a trolley fan?

I do like Trolleys and Street Cars, one of the many reasons I'd like to visit Lake Compounce. I like just about anything on Rails anyway, but the highlight, was operating the 24" Gauge Live Steam Locos at Lagoon for 4 Years.

RIVERSIDE

Anyone remember what Six Flags New England was like years ago? Well if not, here is a look back at the park formerly known as Riverside. This goes back to the opening year of the Riverside Cyclone which they tout as being based on the legendary Coney Island Cyclone. I fail to see any similarities except for the name.

Of all the old Premier Parks that were transformed into Six Flags I would have to say that the Riverside transformation has been one of the better ones. As part of the team that did the flagging of the park, I have to say I was impressed with the change. Also I am so glad that corporate, after much debate, decided on Six Flags New England rather than Six Flags Riverside!

First off...take a ride on the legendary Riverside Cyclone.

I love how some of the promotional artwork for the Cyclone feature drawings of the Coney Island Cyclone track layout.

They're also making the Riverside Cyclone seem as though it's only a slight modification in design compared to the actual Cyclones patterned after the famed New York coaster. Was it originally supposed to be more similar?

I wish I could've had the chance to ride the original Riverside Cyclone before they shortened the drop.

Great stuff Shane!

^ Thanks, The roller coaster graphic they use for the logo is actually the Texas Cyclone, and like I mentioned I think the only inspiration taken from either one of the Cyclones was the name.

I am not an expert on this park by any means I didn't visit it until the mid 90's and I am sure there were many modifications made to the original at that time. I seem to recall at one time the trains on the ride actually had a roof on them, does anyone remember anything about that?

You told me you had a secret weapon still up your sleave, but I didn't think it was THAT powerful

Back to the drawing board!

Look at how virginal and pure these two southern California rides looked in their early years. When you look at them now you sure can tell they have been "ridden"

Only the Jonas Bros are more pure than the Knott's Corkscrew it's opening year

pure as the first fallen snow
