Robb & Ryan Go To The Delorean Factory

Recommended Posts

I'm putting this in the main forum because, well...a Delorean was in Back to the Future and Back to the Future is still a ride at one Universal theme park...so it fits! It's a stretch...but it fits!

Anyway, part of the agreement for Ryan coming to help babysit KidTums this week is that I would take him to the Delorean shop in Orange County to get a part for his car.

A couple of things to note - since I was a teenager during the whole "Back to the Future" movies and remember the Delorean Motor Company coming and going this was quite interesting for me to see. Interesting just in the fact that DMC is still around in some form or another. And without the movie, I wonder if that would be the case? So to me it was very interesting to see how pop culture has played an important role in a would-be defunct company still operating, even in a small form, 24 years AFTER the first movie came out!

The guys at the shop were very nice and actually seemed very enthusiastic for Ryan restoring his car. It's almost like they were passing the Delorean baton to the next generation. It was kind of cool. You probably have to be a nerdy car enthusiast to really appreciate it all, but then again we're nerdy roller coaster enthusiasts so I kind of "get it"

Anyway, onto the photos....

Ryan says "Our day at Delorean is now complete. I've got my cable, my stickers, and yes, I'm going to need a new change of panties and a box of tissues, but MAN, that was better than normal sex!"

OMG! You can buy a flux capacitor here for $325! Who knew? Now your Ford Focus can also double a time machine!!!

Close up on the Flux Capacitor because it IS the most important component to time travel.

Yes, that is the Back to the Future Delorean in all it's glory, and yes that is Ryan having sex with it!

Yes, it's Mr. Fusion. I love how something that solves the world's energy crisis is called "Mister" Fusion.

The Flux Capacitor was invented on November 5, 1955 by Dr. Emmett Brown. It's what makes time travel possible.

delorean_24.jpg.f07c447cb0d4aead55bb89a470b4330d.jpg

We should set the time machine to go back to Jeff Johnson's birthday except we found out that the Delorean actually can't travel back that far!

delorean_22.jpg.2f32fb11e65f252e7427fa43b15e85a7.jpg

Time circuits are very simple to operate..."On" "Off" That's it!

BTTF fans will fine the next few photos very interesting!

delorean_20.jpg.9e4cd13657681a25d0dd9c459092d96c.jpg

delorean_19.jpg.381756d8e43718934869d04cde458abb.jpg

delorean_18.jpg.4fec088ad38c2f7b54601a29313bf9b3.jpg

I'm expecting Doc Brown to pop out any second!

delorean_16.jpg.990bb35f6af662911c46cdb6352b18f5.jpg

Lots of cars getting worked on. I mean, time travel puts a lot of wear on these suckers!

delorean_15.jpg.db4b5fe16b91d1de27b48ed15d725ee7.jpg

All hail BTTF!

delorean_14.jpg.6ae165b0c7b25c831fb22a9fbb202da7.jpg

Yup.

delorean_13.jpg.390314e5ed5c9404fd1366d5c694d2f7.jpg

Heh, I see you little time machine shifter thingy!

delorean_11.jpg.bdaf081c71312f4cec42d5dad4f187a7.jpg

And just in case you were wondering, yes, they do still build time machines at the Delorean factory. This one is getting coverted now. (Doc Brown even called and was like "DAMN! DAMN DAMN! WHERE IS THAT CAR?")

delorean_10.jpg.00c6d71be550b97af50cbb028e86709f.jpg

A closer look at Mr. Purple just in case you wanted to do this to your car.

This Delorean was getting the makeover so it can fly. (Dude, I'm serious! Didn't you see the movie?"

delorean_07.jpg.6a3c935aa20b3e803ca705be231cb393.jpg

"Do you think they'd notice one or two missing pieces?"

delorean_06.jpg.df2dccef618f76055546ff23e487e658.jpg

Another Delorean was getting the gold plated treatment. (It helps with the time travel)

delorean_05.jpg.0e2a4e738d445489157a1e187a23f9fd.jpg

The mostly purple Delorean was getting a makeover for one of the LA Lakers!

"Hello Mr. Cable. I drove 4 hours in traffic for you!"

$51 bucks gets you this cool DMC emblem. You can easily turn that Toyota into a Delorean! =)

Here we are at the Delorean shop on Orange County...yes the company still exists today!

So does this mean Ryan will be able to actually get that thing going at 88 mph?

If so, I have some time travel requests:

*I need to go back in time to the Phoenix and Boulder Dash ERT sessions.

*There's some investments and bets I need to make in 1987

*There's also this Nirvana gig in 1992 in Sydney I'd like to catch

I'll let you know the rest later.

Why won't they just make them.. lighter? and maybe a better engine, then it would've been a decent car. Not surprised that that place exists, just kind of disappointed on how others are modding their DeLorean , no need pretty looking parts. Would've liked to see some weight reduction going on. But yay, glad to see pictures of what is at least a cool looking car, but that's about all it is.

Only if the mule team to which he hitches the car can run that fast.

Thanks for the look at the DeLorean factory--I didn't realize there were that many DeLoreans still around.

When you go back to the ERT sessions, make sure you don't see yourself or we could have a major paradox!

Sweet TR. I did hear rumors that they were going to build them again...

In August 2007, it emerged that due to demand for the DeLorean DMC-12, it could go back into production. Businessman Stephen Wynn has purchased all the remaining parts for the car and plans to rebuild them in Houston.

I'm not sure if I believe this, but anything is possible.

That was something awesome, thanks for sharing!

Wow, talk about how memories of seeing that movie and loving it as a kid just came flooding back. Plus, it is a pretty cool car! Ok, maybe I'm a geek and still really like the movie and the car lol

I remember seeing the car for the first time at Universal in Florida but that was pre-BTTF ride.

Ryan - enjoy the car, restoring one you love is a ton of work but completely worth it.

Wow, that’s so awesome. DeLorians are the most awesome cars ever made. I could care less about Ferraris, pouches and all those fancy Italian speed cars, if I ever get a million dollars from the lottery or something I’d immediately find a DeLorian somewhere to buy!

Back to the Future is one of the greatest movie series of all time... except for the cowboy one... that was only "OK"

My problem is whenever I see it on TV I get addicted and force myself to watch the others on DVD and before I know it, my whole day is gone, but that's ok because it was AWESOME!!!

I can’t wait till November 15th 2015. I’m going to repetitively watch BTTF II for a full 24 hours in honor of the movie.

Sweet car Ryan I hope all goes well with it! The DeLorean Is an Icon... there for it will always be around, Tho im still shocked to see that there is still a DMC and they are working on the cars, thats freakin sweet! like the Camaro in Transformers, the MINIs in the Italian Job, and the DeLorean in Back to the Future. Movies create a buzz around some cars and its great to see you own and are restoring such an awesome one!

Great report.

There are not so much Deloreans in the Netherlands but the other day I saw one for sale on the internet for € 35000,00.

That's just crazy for a car from 1982.

BTW nice license plate on the last picture.
