Day 7 - Kings Dominion

This is one of those parks that I don't have much to say about it. Either college has taken its toll on my brain, there was not much really memorable about the park, or riding 3 Vekomas after the trip gave me brain damage. Probably a combination of all because I remember we were (for the most part) really let down.

When putting this together, I realized how few photos I actually took each day. Just a bunch of the main ride(s) and not much else. :(

Kings Dominion is a good example of this, as you will see.

Image
Son of Parking Lot Coaster.

Image
The entrance area reminded me of CGA, but with more trees.

Image
Off to our morning ERT!

Image
Hearing nothing but great things about this ride from when it was at Geauga Lake, I expected nothing less. Sadly, I was let down. Medusa at SFDK has spoiled floorless coasters for me I guess.

After about 3 rides, I called it quits and decided to get some pictures instead.

Image
Jahan being taken down by Kristen!

Image
"Being the tallest loop, we wanted to show it off by painting it a different color than the rest of the ride"

Image
Smooth, fast, forceful, but just didn't flow.

Image
Am I the only one who thinks the transitions on the corkscrews do not flow very well?

Image
Unlike Six Flags, Cedar Fair took the effort to tear up the parking underneath Parking Lot: The Ride. This makes up for the operations during our visit. ;)

Image
Next up - Volcano The Blast Coaster!

Image
I regret skipping this. However, we had to struggle to get our credits as it was. Maybe I will come back someday after they get their B&M hyper...

Image
Fun coaster, but padded seats like on newer impulse coasters would help A LOT!

Image
Just as the ride starts getting good, it's over.

Image
Time for descriptive name coaster without effects turned on, or whatever Cedar Fair called it.

Image
It wouldn't be a Cedar Fair trip report without pictures of concrete or trash cans.

Image
Hypersonic support's role will be played by Jahan!

Image
It's been over 10 years since I've ridden a Togo death machine. Shockwave was out of service during our visit. Park management did not know why. Nor could they explain why Drop Tower was running at 1/4 capacity. Missed credit due to closure #1.

Image
Another ride I was really looking forward to - disappointing. Death to trim breaks!

Image
Long lines + slow operations = Epic Fail

Image
No flash photograph allowed in the station, so this is the crappy shot I got.

Image
Why do Jahan and WANK seem so interested in Tyler's A$$?!?

Image
Avalanche won the Fail Award for excessive trim break use. So sad. I actually enjoyed Cedar Point's Disaster Transport much more than this.

Image
Hey Elissa!

Image
Dominator from the group picnic area. This means it's time for lunch and...

Q & A with Management! =)

I will sum up the memorable parts in a few memorable quotes, and let you decide what to think.

"We think we're better than Disney and Busch"

"People don't ride rides for their name." (When asked about the naming of Drop Tower)

"It's unfair to other guests that people can pay to skip the lines." (When asked why there is no queue bypass system)

Following the Q & A, management proceeded to give us "exit passes" so we could skip the lines.

My group (Robb, Tyler, Jahan, Brandon, and I forget who else was with us) headed over to Grizzly to use ours. When we walked up the exit, the operator had never seen these "exit passes" before. However, he let us on. It still took an unacceptable amount of time to get through. One train operation, 7 minute dispatch times, and angry guests in line were just a few of the problems.

After our spine smashing ride on Grizzly, we headed over to Hurler, which was even worse. I sat next to Robb on Hurler, which I realized I should have sat on the other side of him when the train came to the turn at the bottom of the first drop. Ouch! Also, putting a giant "renew your season pass" sign over the station for riders to view after a terrible ride, is not such a good idea. Who would want to come back after riding Hurler? Not me!

Maybe this is why I didn't take many more pictures during the day - I was recovering from the pain.

Image
Drop Tower. Who the fudge names a ride Drop Tower?!? Why?

Image
I got a picture of Ricochet, but none of Anaconda. This wasn't all that good either.

Image
Rebel Yell offered some good airtime to make up for the slight pain. Definitely better than the park's other woodies.

Image
Since we didn't have ant children to ride Taxi Jam with, we did our credit whoring on Scooby-Doo's Ghoster Coaster instead. I will end the update with this picture of Tyler, Brandon, and Jahan!

Next up - Morey's Piers

Why do I still have a donkey title???

I completely forgot about the trim brake on Avalanche. That thing literally stopped the ride!

Rebel Yell wasn't that bad, but I actually passed up riding one of the sides because I was still recovering from my kidney blow on Hurler.

Enjoying the update so far!

Why do Jahan and WANK seem so interested in Tyler's a$$?!?

Because I'm THAT desperate? :lmao:

DISCLAIMER- I'm bending over as I was sitting on a slanted wall thing, the picture makes me seem much closer to the antics than I actually was and I wasn't actually staring directly at his arse as I was just glancing over to look at the antic. :br

King's Dominion was so rubbish it was unbelievable. ::)

Day 8, Part 1 - Morey's Piers

Starting off with Tony missing the bus, this day was redemption from our previous day at Kings Dominion. The other highlight of the day was the chance to experience an SLC with no headbanging. More on that later in the report.

Image
We were welcomed with open arms!

Image
Off in the distance, is the new and improved Great Nor Easter. After getting our free t-shirt and other stuff, we headed over for the filming session for us to be featured in a promotional video for Vekoma.

Image
They sure pack the rides in tightly here. Reminded me of the Santa Cruz Boardwalk in California.

Image
Zoom Phloom was down for most of the day. I don't think any of us got to ride it. The only person happy about this was Dan.

Image
Where there weren't coasters or flats - there was water slides. We didn't have enough time to hit up the water slides.

Image
Back to the main reasons we are here - to experience a supposedly pain-free SLC. What is that I see in the middle of the picture. Does WANK actually look excited!!??

Despite there being no headbanging, the ride still was not very re-rideable. The loose wheels on the trains caused the ride to be very shaky and rough. I

can only imagine what this was like with the OTSRs. Despite the discomfort, the new trains are definitely an improvement over any other SLC I've ridden.

Image
The coaster is built around some water slides too.

Image
Some improvements to the wheels systems, and this could be the most re-rideable Vekoma in existence.

Image
First train of the day, and the ERT begins!

Image
Being right under the ride, close up shots were easy to get.

Image
Close-ups of the patented Vekoma wheel gap that causes their rides to be so rough. ;)

Image
Elissa's parents and KidTums take a break while the rest of us run wild.

After the hour ERT on Surfside Pier, we headed over to Mariner's Landing Pier for the second hour of ERT - in which, I would get my 150th credit! =)

Image
Sea Serpent, a 1984 original Boomerang, was credit #150 for me!

Image
The chipped off paint on one of its supports says exactly what the ride is. Time to get out our "Boomerang Survival Kits" :lolr:

Image
Next up, we went over to Rollie's Coaster - only to find out it was down for repairs.

Image
While we waited for Rollie's Coaster to reopen, we used our time to hit up the various flats on the pier - including Maelstrom as shown here with Tyler and Brandon waiting for it. A few weeks earlier, I rode one of these at a county fair in Wisconsin, and it was the absolute most painful experience of my life on a flat. Thrilling, but not worth the pain. I decided to skip this one, and go ride Musik Express with Matt instead.

Image
Double credit (boob AND statue credit) for Elissa bingo. Yes, this double credit was approved by Robb.

Image
Included with our visit, was money for Jumbo's restaurant on the pier. The entire group happened to show up for lunch at the same time, so it turned out to be a massive takeover of the place! ::D

Image
After lunch, we went back and found that Rollie's Coaster had reopened!

Image
What's that off in the distance? Even MORE ERT!

Image
We headed over to Adventure Pier around 2:00 when it opened up for ERT on Great White!

Image
After the traumatic experience the previous day on Kings Dominion's woodies, I was nervous about this one. It actually redeemed woodies for me!

Image
We found the Fudge brothers had been put up for sale!

Image
Lots of interesting shops along the pier. The shop owners, however, did not let us take pictures, so all I got was this shot of the boardwalk itself.

Image
We headed back for one last ride on Great Nor Easter before catching the bus to Clementon.

Great report as usual Sam! Morey's Piers really reminds me of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. So overall how much more enjoyable were the new SLC trains on a scale of 1-10? (10 best)

^ Compared to previous SLC experiences. 7.

Day 8, Part 2

On our way back from the Jersey shore, we stopped in Matt's hometown of Clementon for their amusement park. Elissa explained to us how this is one of those parks we should try to enjoy since it might not be around much longer, etc.

Their woodie which has been through more names than the Hitler kid will have to endure, was surprisingly fun. Nothing like El Toro, but having rode the worst woodies on the east coast already, anything seemed good to us!

Image
With ERT promised for later, we decided to hit up the log flume first. If it weren't for the lake water it used that smelled like something had recently died, this might have been better than BGE's log ride.

Image
We're not in Mexico, but, DON'T DRINK THE WATER!

Image
They look like the actually enjoyed the ride!

Image
So this is what it's called today! What will it be next time? Hopefully not Flight Deck.

Image
Robb and Dan did some filming, then the rest of us rode it as we were told there was a storm approaching, and we should all be sure to get the credit now.

Image
Elissa's mom rides something! Bingo square! Apparently, there was an epic TPR takeover of the carousel that I missed sometime around dinner.

Image
The storm!

Well, the storm came, and hit hard. We didn't have the ERT session after all, because we just wanted to leave. I kind of feel sorry for the park since they offered us ERT and we chose to leave early instead.

Nice update again Sam. Great pics of Morey's & my neighborhood amusement park Clementon! I don't no what HellCat will be called next year but I'll let everyone no when the name changes again :lolr: I wish we would have passed my house on the way to PA but my house is on Erial Rd & we were on Blackwood Clementon RD which are parallel to each other.

Am I the only one who thinks the transitions on the corkscrews do not flow very well?

I like Dominator a lot, but I agree that the corkscrews are the worst part of it. I've found that corkscrews are usually the worst part of any coaster. ;)

KD has lost something over the years (I've lived in Virginia since the mid-1980s).

I agree I am not a big fan of corkscrews either.
