Mark's Postcard Paradise

Recommended Posts

That is such a great video clip! I really enjoyed watching that. Someone had some creative ideas, a rareity in Hollywood today.

The next two postcards are a before and after.

Wonder Mountain and International street as it was conceptualized and then, as it was realized.

trivia question: Does anyone know why they built Wonder Mountain instead of the traditional Eiffel Tower at Kings Island and Kings Dominion?

Here's a So Cal gem: Harry Traver's beautiful Cyclone Racer, which operated from 1930 until it was closed in 1968. Anyone here ever ride it?

The Cyclone Racer can also be seen in that cinematic gem: The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies!!?

There is quite a bit of footage (most on ride). I highly recommend the Mystery Science Theater 3000 version!

^WOW, I really like that post card (Two-Face). I like everything about that ride, well except for maybe the colors. It especially has a cool name and logo, shame they are taking it out.

Anywho...here is another post card from me...Geronimo!

The post card is from Six Flags Great Adventure but it is obviously the ride from Six Flags over Georgia

No problem...and yes it would be sad if SFGAdv took out the parachutes. I'm not sure if there are any more left besides those and the ones at LaQua in Japan. In my opinion, SFOG should've kept the Great Gasp and moved it over to the Cotton States Exposition section!

Very clever name, the original three had great names, seems the "name pool" got rather shallow with the last two incarnations.

Best to the worst:

Texas Chute Out - Six Flags over Texas

The Great Gasp - Six Flags over Georgia

Sky Chuter - Six Flags over Mid-America

Sky Jump - Knott's Berry Farm

Parachuter's Perch - Six Flags Great Adventure.

And now for todays submission...Mountain Express at Magic Mountain, my first coaster!

Yes it has been kind of a nice tie-in. Unfortunately the Kennywood Memories mini-series ends tomorrow and my Kennywood postcard collection ends today. But fear not my friends that does not mean my postcard collection is finished...I've got plenty more!

Restoca- great Kennywood postcards btw!

The final Kennywood installment from me: The Racer with the old, cool trains!

This week my featured card comes from Erlebnispark Tripsdrill in Germany, one of my favorite parks visited on the TPR Europe trip this past summer. I found it to be one of the more quirky parks on the trip. Shown here is G'sengte Sau, which according to RCDB, is the first roller coaster by Gerstlauer. I think Robb may have had as much fun operating it as many of us did riding it. It sure did have some great pops of airtime, and I can't decide which I liked more - G'sengte Sau or the "6 man bathtub bare breasts" flume ride pictured at the bottom of the card.

Translation: "Our park totally rules." Thank you Tripsdrill!
