Day 9

Hong Kong and Ocean Park

We arrived in Hong Kong the previous night and we were staying at the fabulous HKDL Hollywood Hotel.

Now, I knew really nothing about Hong Kong, except that everything is made there. I had no idea that HK is made up of many different islands and had lots and lots of people of people there.

Let's go into Hong Kong.....

Hi Chuck!!

More pics shortly.

Yee-haw! Terra Firma!!

DSC05596.JPG.19e2922a34ce3764dd4e0db7187a9045.JPG

One way or the other, the end was near!

DSC05594.thumb.JPG.84a709856b78e48f7d2a17d6ddb0b55a.JPG

But, really sucky.

DSC05595.JPG.51fbbb01b9fdf2c6cbab3e8c593e04bb.JPG

But, a great view.

DSC05593.JPG.ec379f8bf98986ed4b3027399b024292.JPG

They were also fairly sucky.

DSC05592.JPG.4554e5817e6650f5a2b93e4c3c3f441d.JPG

Though I had to admit, the view from the cable cars were spectacular!

DSC05589.JPG.61c23c9a707c1b3eb348f1b4f8c75045.JPG

Apparently, one of the Giant Pandas had too much bamboo, farted, and completely destroyed the whole front side of the park.

DSC05588.JPG.1e06b5d3ecc6e5047dedfa6a4913607a.JPG

Time to take one of these contraptions over the hills to the "rides" area of the park. (BTW - Oh f'n joy!)

DSC05586.JPG.9242a8cc1b2b7c4bce4ec2d2a90aca67.JPG

Oh f'n joy. One of my favorite kind of rides. =(

DSC05581.JPG.08aca1bc9c59285641e0a3c490440d0a.JPG

Well, forget them! We're heading into Ocean Park.

DSC05574.JPG.0d97d3ae606c3ade85e56de90c791ccf.JPG

They're probably already at work here in the business district.

DSC05570.JPG.663b06ce17a9ab89c4313dd41998908b.JPG

Seriously. Where are they?

DSC05566.JPG.e99e59024b8ee75278a6a29b8f192cb5.JPG

All these millions of people and.... Where the hell are they??

DSC05565.JPG.f64adba386ca785ef4fb907b7c016be0.JPG

Their graffiti is so much superior to ours!

DSC05564.JPG.3157e32d72fd9c24124e9ec486f38a22.JPG

Anybody need a coffin??

DSC05560.JPG.d9770edbb8e1ab39d912824ac88dcb42.JPG

We go that-a-way!

DSC05550.JPG.e668a6f11868c437a3179d7e9f445735.JPG

Crapola!

DSC05534.JPG.4297aaa8ffcdbad16613ec9d0aa5f9d5.JPG

Lots more, and we weren't even heading that direction.

DSC05532.JPG.2654fdf995c690ba04ff27292853a8f5.JPG

One of the many cool bridges we would cross.

DSC05529.JPG.11497d5d45809aeb0d2bf8bc6c80962b.JPG

Our drive into HK was quite scenic. Those are some of the 100's of apt building scattered about.

Evidently, the Chinese had the original coat hanger bronzed for all to see.

More soon.

Somehow, I can't imagine that the short train would have been anymore comfortable.

Rob and Elissa told us about the best place to see the harbor. It was a place called the "Avenue of the Stars". (Think, Hollywood Walk of Fame, with a better view!) It was a great place to visit, giving some really great views. They also had a harbor light show spectacular featuring all of the buildings. Joey and I would come back later on that evening to check it out.

Anyway, this day continues...

Our wonderful HKDL Hollywood Hotel.

So ended the day, and this update.

Next up: Day 2 in Hong Kong, Macau and the insane TPR members on (and off) tha Macau tower.

Thanks for looking.

Great pictures Old Man. I agree with Bob and I really like the night pictures of Hong Kong. That place looks amazing and it seemed weird that there were no people around the town.

I can't wait to see the rest of your updates.

Do you have High Resloution pics of some of the night shots? Or maybe some stiches?

Yeah. I do have the full res pics (7.2mp). I can post and/or bundle them together at the end if anyone would like them.

As for the "stitches" (panoramic shots) I'll start a different thread whenever I get this one finished. It will have all of the stitches I've attempted.

But, I don't think that the night stitches came out all that well.

Are you joking with questioning Chow Yun-Fat's popularity? He's an enormous film star in Hong Kong. He and John Woo made basically the greatest HK action films ever together. Just because his American films all fizzled, doesn't mean he still isn't the godlike star of The Killer and Hard Boiled.

Day 10 - Macau

Today was a kind of cultural day, as quite a few of us took the option to go to Macau, the biggest, fastest growing, gambling mecca in the world. They also have a large tower, with some interesting attractions up on top. We then got to either go sightsee more in Hong Kong, or go to Disneyland.

Enjoy!

Dave IS levitating - truly AMAZING!

Jeff - you captured a lot of moments I overlooked because I either

a) didn't turn on the camera in time

b) had the wrong shutter mode on (same result as a)

c) left my camera on the bus! - (no result there then)

Get your stitches up asap -they ROCK

Cheers

I guess it's time to work on this some more.

Day 11 - Hong Kong Disneyland

OK. This place was absolutely beautiful, and ridiculously small. Not much to do, but everything, including the cast members was top notch. It's a wonderful (albeit small) park, with a great chance at growing into a great park.

Time for pictures.

DSC06109.JPG.a0065004f2a48be8e2571a6b8102851d.JPG

In we go!

OK. I didn't tell the whole truth. Somehow, Robb worked his magic and got us ERT on SM. THANK YOU ROBB!!

More pics shortly.

DSC06115.JPG.c1803a34ed96c9cf759cf0f3f46068c5.JPG

People were just flocking to the SM FastPass machines!

DSC06110.JPG.40d6a453e37b1650d2cc2f1346297321.JPG

You have to admit, it does look pretty damn cool!

DSC06104.JPG.71b9269247a7d2e0dde65b8f9472cb41.JPG

First stop, Space Mountain!

DSC06102.thumb.JPG.f242485be3ee532917a2f85f519843b0.JPG

The Astro Orbiter thingy on top looked pretty cool!

Venturing into Tomorrowland.

Themeing of said misters.

DSC06097.JPG.84d20b085240bfa405f1d81f3e30597a.JPG

It was nice to see misters on a blazing hot day like today! (It was 90+ that day.)

DSC06094.JPG.fb5dfb3176e0762eb6676b83d249d3ef.JPG

With the throngs of people here today, it was amazing that you could still find your camera sitting in the middle of the street!

DSC06093.JPG.7ac9decf931b3d406904858c4c4ea3bf.JPG

OK. I think they took "Disneyland" as a model WAYYYY too seriously, because that's a itty bitty castle! Made even smaller by the hills in the background.

DSC06091.JPG.90ef63a0a451314e6fafa6cc558d5bb4.JPG

It was also a bit odd that all of the signage was in English.

DSC06082.JPG.186c2ea10a47afcb2240b11781e0649b.JPG

Main Street, like the rest of the park, was immaculately clean!

DSC06080.JPG.55c19c90cb0f26c0e370e85911fa3919.JPG

Anyone ever seen the "Midtown Jewelry" movie?

DSC06076.JPG.db0b07520ee6b8e64c9bf93e189f2925.JPG

We were only there 10 minutes and Rich was taking his final pictures before heading out.

DSC06074.JPG.19256da734944fe7c12b260c770cdfeb.JPG

Way too many people for my taste!

DSC06072.JPG.358a4de694ed2cdf1822c584d9cd3210.JPG

Like all Disney parks, this one was packed!!

An indoor queue. What a concept. Perhaps the original Disneyland should try something like that.

DSC06194.JPG.100cef22f6291e29f7d20f90b110d389.JPG

It was awesome to have the air-conditioned queue on this HOT day to keep the crowds calm!

DSC06192.JPG.c84a2d42ac3bb9152962bb1e8abf3a46.JPG

Even the nooks and crannies of this place were immaculate!

DSC06190.JPG.24bb43ded270cd12c33b80010283dde0.JPG

So we opted for Larry's favorite ride..

DSC06187.JPG.346abdb44bdc13348ef22a50792367d7.JPG

We also passed on "The Golden Mickeys" at the Storybook Theater, as the English version was much later in the day.

On the way to Fantasyland, we passed on the Stitch Encounter. The English version wasn't till later in the day.
