Thanks for uploading these Libertyland shots! I had never seen most of them.
Brings back alot of memories from the park in the 90's...

Well I thought that was going to be a pretty boring post cause I didn't have a lot of photos just all the press releases. But I just went back and read all those releases and there is a lot of interesting stuff about this park that I knew little to nothing about.
It really makes me wish I was able to visit this park while it was still around. Very interesting how this park came about and that it was operated by a non-profit group.
There are some really great "over the top" quotes in there from Mike Danshaw, Allen Ambrosini and Frank Gordon describing the Revolution. And I have to laugh at the general managers remark as it "being as safe as a baby's cradle". I recall that when the wind blew the cradle was rocked and then fell, baby and all. That doesn't sound too safe to me.
And speaking of Frank Gordon, who was the founder of Roller Coaster Buffs International, the other coaster club that rivaled ACE back in the 70's, I found this photo of RCBI's first convention at Six Flags over Texas. There weren't too many of us there, but it was a BLAST!
The club slogan was "Ride High with RCBI" How great is that?

Libertyland had everything going for it but the management became corrupt and began to have a different venue in mind - the Mid South Fair... and it was all down hill from there.
I was surprised as they listed Zippin Pippin going at just over 20 mph? That doesn't seem right to me, most places list it at going at least 40 mph.

So Libertyland opened for the 4th of July 1976 and closed in 2005. When smaller, independent parks close down permanently does it make you a little sad, Shane? It's a shame that for every Walt Disney and Walter Knott there's a (add name of creator of Libertyland here).
On a more positive note...Wow, Shane, what's left of Magic Mountain for this thread?

I have a whole series I am going to be posting in the next day or two that looks at all the earlier Six Flags parks the way they were back in the 1970's.
Boy when you see the Magic Mountain the way it used to be it will make you sad. Yes Magic Mountain truly used to be "Magic"

| As a frequent guest to Universal Studios Hollywood growing up, I can honestly tell you that the people in the water tank were indeed park guests. I was able to experience that show for myself and thankfully the water was heated. Once picked for the show most people were given some type of costume to wear (water tank candidates were given a complete set of clothes including under garments). It was a blast jumping from the platform into the water.

I did not go on the Japan trip. I'm sorry if it seemed I misrepresented myself in any way. I did say that if I could have done one of the 2007 trips it would have been Japan.

Well one fortunate thing for me that came out of Hurricane Katrina and the insane gas prices shortly thereafter was that I cancelled my trip to Branson and instead went on a much shorter day trip to Libertyland...little knowing that LL would close just weeks later! I'm glad I got to go for one last spin on ZP and Revo.
I remember LL had a REALLY amazing water ride where you sat solo in a plastic "raft" and slid down a steep slide then freely skipped across a "pond" without any control. It was scary and great!
LL's drop tower, Rebellion, was one of the scariest I've ever experienced as there was no pause at the top before the drop. One second you were going up up up, and then whoosh DOWN! It's now at Ghost Town in the Sky where it must offer really spectacular views of the mountains. The only other one I've ever similarly experienced is at Beech Bend, but it's an A.R.M. and I believe LL's was a Fabbri.
Granted LL had gotten a bit run down towards the end, it was still a very fun place to visit back in 05. I hate to see that it's gone now. Thanks for digging this one out Shane!
