SeaWorld Orlando (SWO) Discussion Thread

P. 276: Penguin Trek construction update!

Recommended Posts

What a fun looking slide. It's nice that you spend quite a bit of time in the half-pipe section as on a lot of slides you just go up and down each side then just drop out into the splash pool. It's a nice length slide and looks like a great addition to what I thought was a really nice waterpark.

Had my first visit last week and because my time was limited, I decided to buy a fast pass. It was great being able to just walk on to Mako over and over again. Granted I have not ridden anywhere near the the amount of coasters that most folks here have, having only been into the hobby for two years now, but it's easily my current favorite. Front row outside provides insane airtime and it was smooth as glass from all positions.

I visited SWO last year for the first time and was blown away by Mako. It had a ton of airtime and was glass smooth, it easily became my #1 B&M hyper. My kids had never been on a hyper before and loved it, they couldn't get over how much airtime it had. Although we went during the summer, the lines for Mako were pretty minimal, so we are able to ride it a ton. SWO really has a great trio of coasters, I tell everyone that's going to Orlando that SWO is a must visit.

SeaWorld and Busch Gardens has for many years excelled in their seasonal events, and with the return of Electric Ocean at SeaWorld Orlando, there is once again another event at the park that exceeds expectations! Building upon last year's strong debut, the event has been beefed up with a new show, new food and the same vibrant energy that made Electric Ocean so great before!

TPR was invited to attend a media event for Electric Ocean, previewing this year's food options, the new Touch the Sky show at the Whale and Dolphin Stadium as well as having time to enjoy the rest of the event offerings throughout the park!

As you'll see in our report below, Electric Ocean is an even better event than it was last year and if SeaWorld Orlando's great coasters, shows and food weren't enough to entice you to visit before, Electric Ocean should help to tip the scale to convince you to give the park your time--you'll be glad you did!

1.thumb.JPG.6da2cc92a40279ca911557e615bb1e79.JPG

If there's one thing to be said about Electric Ocean, it is that the schedule of events naturally guides you on a linear flow throughout the park (if you intend to see every show). Starting with Touch the Sky, you then move to Sea Lions Tonite, followed by POP and then ending with Club Sea Glow and Ignite. With time in between showings and each offering located extremely close to the next, this allows for a minimized need for planning and a greater ability to simply follow the flow of Electric Ocean's nightly schedule.

10.thumb.JPG.ddf14912880e6dcde9c6ab232305bf6b.JPG

The show harkens back to some of the more exciting moments from Blue Horizons.

2.thumb.JPG.e91341e508d5e93062ca62137c092c5f.JPG

Up first for us was some delicious food! We started with the pork and chicken pinchos!

3.thumb.JPG.6a8087e141546b869a67337a273a5a5f.JPG

Next up were two types of empanadas, a savory beef and cheese empanada and a sweet guava and cheese empanada. Both were generously sized and delicious!

4.thumb.JPG.248ca66b7f6fa040631b2fd444d2f7a8.JPG

New this year were customizable Totchos, allowing you to layer your tots with chicken, pulled pork, chili, cheese, jalapenos, sour cream and salsa!

5.thumb.JPG.ee26cd2ca317bc9623b8b4fd8c4b6408.JPG

Also new this year were four types of steam bao bun sandwiches: Hawaiian pork, sweet & sour duck, ahi tuna and a nutella, banana and peanut buttter sauce bun!

6.thumb.JPG.f8ace0d86d38fc4b5793c696b801fc38.JPG

My fairly conservative pulled pork totchos.

7.thumb.JPG.17a145a067e9d06d990f51b3090b7b4c.JPG

We'll revisit this sign later tonight...

8.thumb.JPG.3aa22b2179d0a80e0445db4834125052.JPG

New this year to the event lineup is Touch the Sky, an Electric Ocean-exclusive extra show at Whale and Dolphin Stadium.

9.thumb.JPG.dc31c114b807bdda4fba33aef1a400fd.JPG

Touch the Sky takes the best elements of Dolphin Days (and past shows in this theater) but adds a little more energy than the normal informative but entertaining shows that run here daily.

11.thumb.JPG.1f96369b60c1bd62df5ae4b4e5356111.JPG

Some of the best dolphin behaviors are brought back for this show...

12.thumb.JPG.c74e641925ec4c37eafb38906d6870c3.JPG

Including my favorite!

13.thumb.JPG.e0e7416311fa22fe824e63ed8930bcf6.JPG

Definitely worth watching!

14.thumb.PNG.bdf5beb4ceed6afb54b98e46d293070b.PNG

I didn't realize until I Shazam'd one of the songs I was hearing, but SeaWorld actually released a soundtrack for Electric Ocean to be purchased on iTunes... I highly recommend Feeling Electric for any of you techno fans out there!

15.thumb.JPG.c022dab0a2a5160e9717d8ef00fbe55e.JPG

Next up was Sea Lions Tonite!

16.thumb.JPG.acdf163f1af0e89157fb8136ed0e2848.JPG

A staple for many years at SeaWorld's Summer/evening events, this is easily the best Clyde & Seamore show out there (since Hotel Clyde & Seamore has long since been out of business).

17.thumb.JPG.a8caa9a42fae8bc743495fd259145c09.JPG

The show is one giant parody of a guest's day at SeaWorld Orlando and nothing is safe from being addressed... Including park entrance security procedures.

18.thumb.JPG.787d905af45929e5befb446532e7adf1.JPG

A classic bit that has been updated slightly over the years to change from Kraken to Manta to Mako.

19.thumb.JPG.4ec9d2c3d3bb11e42450695ed2f7a021.JPG

Of course, there are volunteers from the audience.

20.thumb.JPG.b49add6af8d4cf405fd21eb8d0cec40a.JPG

And kids in the splash zone get a little wet!

21.thumb.JPG.9b1c7523376654c2b796ae70dc0cdd2b.JPG

The show is also great in that it brings back the classic SeaWorld Mime back into the fold!

22.thumb.JPG.eefc39118a27034bfef2c4c59ee4ce29.JPG

Next up was "SeaWorld and Bubble Legendary present POP!"

23.thumb.JPG.ad66a37bbdfe9de726591aba6d87529c.JPG

The show's "bubble artist" does some incredible things with bubbles during the 30+ minute show!

24.thumb.JPG.71511ed46d65de1ecc11e177b6b4701d.JPG

I will say, the show is best enjoyed up close, so get a seat early and thank me later!

25.thumb.JPG.69538f85decddbc8643fca529c1e1098.JPG

The show deals with bubbles big and small.

26.thumb.JPG.3b950b2846d6651d2dbdaf4df1ca48fa.JPG

And each segment of the show works with bubbles in a different way.

27.thumb.JPG.3ef7ca80746079b3245f25d532ff857b.JPG

The volcano was pretty neat.

28.thumb.JPG.ef5f7ac0948a72e1dbf3cf4c23eaad34.JPG

Cute!

29.thumb.JPG.da28179e44e754443b2141f1f77bcf8a.JPG

The show ends with an all-out barrage of bubbles filling the Nautilus Theater. It was an insanely cool way to cap off the show!

30.thumb.JPG.8b39d23b46e92ef0ebe92ff74fe51494.JPG

A raft from Infinity Falls is now out on display near the future ride area.

31.thumb.JPG.785c6d2d1e6e0a05e26856a8ba715543.JPG

Shamu's Happy Harbor is quickly being torn down to make way for the new Sesame Street area. I have lots of fond memories in this play area as a kid, but I'm excited to see the park investing in reworking the space in such a significant (and sure to be successful) way.

32.thumb.JPG.82bb278f45c6c9fc10e2b5497545c646.JPG

Mako is now in clear view from the middle of Shamu Stadium.

33.thumb.JPG.d339313dbe2a3a1a4b473bd7c867942e.JPG

Shamu's Celebration: Light Up The Night debuted a few years ago to replace Shamu Rocks, and while I prefer the previous show, this one does a great job of preserving the high energy and fun of the evening killer whale shows of the past.

34.thumb.JPG.8a33f5c8e619b6c58d91c5f1a76a5648.JPG

More theatrical and less educational than One Ocean, the audience can't get enough!

35.thumb.JPG.71349d3ee0b170ec7b2bc4530236d3fe.JPG

And of course, those sitting in the splash zone won't go home dry.

36.thumb.JPG.941742757054f2e700a356e8a58fe6bd.JPG

Seeing a Shamu show is a quintessential part of the SeaWorld experience, and if you can only choose one during your day at the park, Light Up The Night is definitely worth seeing if the show is scheduled.

37.thumb.JPG.e87b5dfaac449ded7b02409a102df0c2.JPG

Decor is set up near the event area that helps bring the glow to Electric Ocean.

38.thumb.JPG.3918dda34d88b46085a804b84771615b.JPG

Some neat trash art near Wild Arctic.

39.thumb.JPG.7f7c6d6c2ace19e4b06ec7d8c0292b9c.JPG

Club Sea Glow is a giant dance party on the Atlantic Bayside Stadium stage.

40.thumb.JPG.1337b8dbfcf4bd197ced062592375c2f.JPG

Performers entertain while guests wait for the start of the event's special fireworks, Ignite.

41.thumb.JPG.5148f19578a1716dc6333463962ecd51.JPG

There's definitely a lot to take in!

42.thumb.JPG.408b4afe0962723a319c2a883df245fe.JPG

Some may remember Laserman from elecTRONica at Disney California Adventure. He now performs for his second year at Electric Ocean as an extra pre-show before the start of the fireworks.

43.thumb.JPG.3d2e7890aa128d8fbf48a38022380387.JPG

Ignite is a show combining fountains, lasers, fire and fireworks...

44.thumb.JPG.54ee3c9a44f3c3e994e32b76ee0663e4.JPG

Think of it almost like SeaWorld's World of Color, exception there are no projection screens and this show has fireworks.

45.thumb.JPG.d7184c5395d9694d5b62d93f6910f9ea.JPG

Lots of fireworks!

46.thumb.JPG.4f39162491c3b55058b1447c1718d9e6.JPG

Also, lots of fire!

47.thumb.JPG.93d59cea80cfd7c690d596b8f64dd1cf.JPG

And a combination of it all!

48.thumb.JPG.95defe93753c3874efe19f6a58bc0b8e.JPG

Making our way past more glow decor on the way out...

49.thumb.JPG.27d0b7aab5880988f2cf0ee49805786a.JPG

Electric Ocean is a stellar Summer event for SeaWorld Orlando. It builds upon the already wonderful offerings presented at the park year round and gives guests event more reason to stay til park close. From the new food options to the newest shows, Electric Ocean is an even stronger event this year and one that is well worth your time, whether you're a local or a visitor to Orlando.

The two dining options I love at the park are Mama's Pretzel Kitchen and Dine with Shamu.

Mama's Pretzel Kitchen sells pretzels that are basically doughy crack. They are better than anything you'll get at Wetzel's or Auntie Anne's. I absolutely love them. If the bacon one is offered, you're in for a real treat, but you can't go wrong with any of them.

Dine with Shamu was in the ballpark of $25 and it included an all-you-can-eat buffet with solid food, all-you-can-drink beer (Busch), and a private show with Shamu.

We did the dine with shamu this spring and loved it! The only complaint was that we felt rushed.

To all the locals....we will be at Seaworld on July 28th. Anybody heard about an opening date for infinity falls? Any chance it will be open by then? Or is everyone in the dark on this?

Best food in the park?

Word on the street is it may not open until August but they are trying to get it open sooner

Hmmmm......that will be very close to our date. Guess we will just have to keep our fingers crossed that it is ready. We are getting off a short cruise to Cuba that morning in Tampa and have a car for the day to get to Orlando so that will for sure be the easiest day for us to stop at Seaworld. Hope it's ready!

SeaWorld Orlando has sent us a press release regarding the topping off of Infinity Falls' tower strcuture, marking a milestone in the development of the attraction leading up to its opening at a date still to be announced.

Construction is coming to a close at SeaWorld Orlando as Infinity Falls – the highly anticipated new attraction opening at SeaWorld Orlando this summer – takes its place in the Orlando skyline. The record-breaking new attraction was “topped off” over the weekend as cranes lifted the final piece of the rides iconic blue and gray tower into place. The whimsical tower structure, blending modern architecture with ancient ruins, reaches a height of 67 feet and surrounds the attractions unique vertical lift. The 41-ton steel tower, made up of 10 pre-fabricated segments, took crews five nights to install. When it opens, Infinity Falls will feature the world’s tallest drop on a river raft ride.

The new attraction brings the thrill of white-water rafting into a new experience the family can enjoy together. Aboard the rides 8-passenger circular rafts, riders will embark on an adventure through a lush rainforest environment inspired by some of the world’s most incredible freshwater ecosystems. The new attraction will feature dynamic drops and turns, interactive water elements, and allow visitors to experience the feel of exhilarating rapids. The ride will also feature an innovative vertical lift designed to transport the rafts to the top of the ride’s 40-foot drop in just over five seconds.

The new attraction will be the centerpiece of a newly themed area designed to resemble the basecamp of explorers and scientists. After riding Infinity Falls, the entire family can explore the basecamp and take part in interactive experiences that combine play with education to create a positive impact on freshwater ecosystems, reinforcing “Park to Planet” in real time, a mission to help guests understand some of the challenges facing the planet and inspiring them to help.

SeaWorld Orlando Pass Members can be among the first to ride Infinity Falls when it opens. The park plans to announce an opening date in the coming weeks. Right now, Florida residents can purchase a SeaWorld Orlando Annual Pass for less than $15 per month with EZpay.

Get the latest Infinity Falls updates by following SeaWorld Orlando on Facebook, Instagram and the SeaWorld Orlando Blog.

Yeah, I saw on youtube that they basically just have the landscaping and testing left.....and that testing had started. But announcing the date in the coming weeks doesn't sound like there will be much chance we will get on it on the 28th. Probably worst possible scenario, we can watch it test but not ride. Boo. I thought for sure when it said open summer of 2018 a few months ago that we would be safe by the last Saturday in July.

That structure around the vertical lift looks amazing but .........man those stairs around the thing are a bit of an eye sore. Hopefully they landscape it out of a view a bit or something.

Hopefully they will paint the stairs blue to match the tower and add some more landscaping to block the view over time. But the tower and overall ride is really looking good. Sea World has a winner on their hands.
