WDW Disney's Hollywood Studios Discussion Thread

So what's stopping Disney from sinking a cool billion into a Marvel World, and finally giving coasterheads a reason to drop their own cool pennies in Disney's pockets? Seriously, I'm planning a Florida to Ohio road trip, as many decent parks and coasters as I can ride, and Disney simply isn't on the agenda, because they only cater to families with small kids as far as I can see. What's stopping them finally taking that step and announcing a new thrill park filled with coasters themed to their industry-crushing Marvel property? Iron Man, a B&M flying coaster, Captain America, a Giga coaster, Black Widow, a Gerstlauer Infinity, I could go on and on...

..and I don't even like Marvel. But it's their ticket to my money...

...all they'd be missing is Hulk and Spider Man, although the latter might change with the rights swinging 'tween Sony and Disney, not sure about all those studio politics.

^In Florida they are restricted as to what they can do with Marvel due to Universal's licencing agreement that's in place for IoA, it's not just Hulk & Spiderman that are off the cards, as I understand it, it's any character that is related to any characters that are used at IoA, so that would include all the Avengers, this is presumably why they have been able to use Guardians of the Galaxy at Epcot.

Also a big coaster park is not Disney's style, they have been able to create some of the best thrill rides in the world without having to build any big skyscraping coasters

As long as we're being serious, the Florida Disney parks are wall-to-wall packed almost year round these days. I think they're doing just fine without pennies from the "coasterheads".

Yeah, "coasterheads" are (at best) very small part of Disney's audience.

As a coasterhead, I am very satisfied with Expedition Everest, Rock N Roller Coaster, and Space Mountain. They are intense in their own ways that B&M's simply can't compete with. It's incredible how crazy a backwards helix in complete darkness feels on Everest.

If you weren't a coaster person or familiar with the layout you'd swear that the indoor spiral is actually a vertical loop. It certainly feels like one.

Screamscape.com (thanks!) just posted an art concept that Disney has released, which finally reveals

what the eatery in Toy Story Land will/might be..... Woody's Lunch Box. Cool idea!

With outdoor seating, too! (o:

Where it will sit, close to the Alien Swirling Saucers. Thanks WDWMAGIC.com for the overhead pic.

^I see in the concept art picture that it looks like they will be using the same style of fences as in Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris. Now for me I thought this fence style didn't really work. I understand the concept of what they were trying to achieve, but for me I thought it just looked terrible and had a very cheap look.

Example (not my picture)

Just my opinion of course, and not a major detail, but I hope they're able to make it look better at Hollywood Studios.

I have the feeling they will probably go the same way, with the fencing they did in Paris. Come to think of it,

I'm pretty sure Hong Kong Disneyland did the same thing for fencing, in their TSL. I'll go check here, somewhere....

Toy-Story-Land.jpg.9c6fceb1a3c3ef2b057db6ba32809c0a.jpg

Yes, it does look like the same fencing as in Paris, and what the Studios in getting for their TSL. Pic from the net.

Yea HKDL has it all over, but personally, I really liked the Knex look. I thought it was a clever way to fit the theme and the area is already so colorful I thought it worked better than a solid "lego" fence would have.

Having seen it and walked through it all at the Studios (2015), I can honestly say, it didn't matter that much to me, visually. Now there were crowds to be walking through too, so I normally didn't see as much of the fence, as I would if it was much less in numbers. I also noticed, that nobody tried to sit on these fences, being rounded and less width than some normal fencing. So that was possibly, also included with Disney's plans to fence the vegetation etc in. Making the fence..."un-sitable".

Tonight we attended the media event for the "Flurry of Fun" holiday offerings at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Now I know there are those of you who will miss the Osborne Lights but I'm happy to report that thanks to the NEW holiday event at the Studios, this park is back to being one of the premiere spots to enjoy Christmas cheer at Walt Disney World! Tonight we got to check some of the highlights including:

- Sunset Seasons Greetings - This is the new show for this year which includes projections on Tower of Terror set to music and this was incredible! There are four different shows that will run throughout the night and we recommend seeing ALL of them!

- Jingle Bell, Jingle Bam! - This fireworks/projection show is BACK to updated effects and more fireworks! It's a lot of Christmas fun to help make the night even more amazing!

- Jingle Bam! Dessert Party - Want to enjoy the show with some amazing desserts and some adult hot chocolate? This is the way to do it!

Here's some photos & video from the event!

The highlight of tonight was the new Tower of Terror projection show. Here's the Toy Story and Frozen segments:

Here's the ending of the Frozen segment!

And...Adult - Hot - Chocolate?

SOLD!

Great video, Robb. I love what Disney does

with the mapping technique, now. Great visuals.

And a usual awesome soundtrack to go with it.

One of my all time favorite (mapping) moments, on an IAsW show, with "Tangled" in it.

Choked up, every time I saw this lantern floating up, from the King and Queen.

Disney really goes all out for media events! Glad to see Hollywood Studios seems to me like it has the least to offer of the four parks (or maybe we're just not like most enthusiasts). Toy Story Land has me excited though; love the little touches that make it look like something a kid designed.

The ole Bourbon and Hot chocolate, a Fall/Winter weekend morning staple for us Kentuckians, glad to see the delightful combination is gaining appeal outside of the bluegrass state haha.

Seems like when I think of the holiday's at WDW the studios comes to mind after EPCOT and Magic Kingdom but these seasonal offerings looks really amazing and might be worth checking out.

I'm not sure I understand why you're happy to see that Studios has the least to offer but give the park time as I'm sure that will be changing soon. This was one of those "needs to get worse before it gets better" scenarios and in two years this park should do a complete 180!
