pianojohn
I took one last trip to ride the great movie ride before it closes in a few weeks. Here are the pictures. And here is a video I shot of the entire ride: Enjoy! Edited July 27, 2017 by pianojohn
Hilltopper39
I wish I could make it down for one last ride but I don't think it's gonna happen. I'm not exactly sad to see the Great Movie Ride go because the new Mickey ride looks awesome, but part of me always though they would update the ride at some point instead of removing it. I always thought it would be cool to add some new scenes from more modern movies with some of the more recent technology, maybe even change the ride system but I guess the park is moving in a different direction entirely. Also, just a comment about the new mickey ride, the show build for the GMR is huge, any chance the Mickey Ride only occupies part of that space the rest is used later for an additional attraction? Maybe something in the Pixar world since the back of the building backs up to Pixar Place?

prospekt88
Thanks for sharing those photos. The Great Movie Ride was a great concept and fun ride but it has definitely run its course. I think replacing it with a Mickey ride as a centerpiece to a park themed to Disney's Studios is a perfect concept. As far as adding a new attraction to Pixar Place as mentioned above, is that alleyway still going to be open to the public after Toy Story and Star Wars open? There won't be any permanent attractions or food services there and it would be the perfect backstage area for Midway Mania and the new Mickey ride so I assumed that's all it would be. PKI Jizzman
Here's a pic from the site, for those who (for one reason or another) can't get to the photos... Wow, I am WAY behind on this thread. I remember seeing concept art of this coaster, but had no idea it was well on the way to completion. Looks great! I'm really excited about the changes Disney is making to Hollywood Studios. Here's the latest Disney tweet that TPR RT'd showing track completion:
Nrthwnd
The coaster's pretty much sticking to the art concept right now. Which is great! The awesome parts will be the themeing all around it, over it, under it.

Nrthwnd
^ It's all looking great. I love how the new Grand Avenue pretty much becomes a Main Entry point into Galaxy's Edge. And I am totally fascinated with how the Millenium Falcon attraction is looking inside, before it all gets enclosed and themed!
cymonster-rex
will the Slinky Dog Coaster coaster open before Toy story land opens? Or will they just wait til the whole land finishes
ThemeParkJunkie51290
will the Slinky Dog Coaster coaster open before Toy story land opens? Or will they just wait til the whole land finishes The coaster definitely want open until the land is finished. Construction is still strong at this point. thrillseeker4552
The Slinky Dog Coaster has me very intrigued. I love all those back-to-back airtime hills! Anyone know what type of train will be on this ride? I can't imagine it being the Mack mega/launch coaster trains, since Disney is so big on carrying loose articles with you, and those trains are very open and exposed. Can't wait to see all the theming!
Zero One
The concept art showed very heavily themed Slinky Dog trains.
CaptainUnknown
I also remember seeing Seven Dwarves Mine Train style trains in early concept POVs. It'll be interesting to see what holds up. But either way, this is Disney--the trains will be highly themed.
RollerManic
Well, here's your answer to the train question: Source This made my day. I can only image what the reactions of other drivers must have been. Also, there was this gem in the comments: Wow, that sure is one big wiener! EDIT: Wait, Buzz, is that you?? Nrthwnd
^ ^ ^ Looks great! Can't wait to see it running. And the train looks sooo much like the flat ride cars, on the Slinky Dog tail spinner in Paris and Hong Kong, and soon Shanghai... Awesome. ytterbiumanalyst
Well, here's your answer to the train question: Source This made my day. I can only image what the reactions of other drivers must have been. Toy Story is my favourite Disney movie, and I cannot wait to see this thing up and running. It looks like a great family-friendly coaster that all of us would have fun riding. Definitely a must-do on our Orlando list.

Hilltopper39
I fully expect the Slinky Dog coaster to be a giant hit similar to the & Dwarves Mine Train. I'd love to see a similar sized "family coaster" installed at Animal Kingdom and Epcot before it's all said and done.
Alice Kane
A DOG roller coaster! How could I not be thrilled with THAT! (And, along with the ride, comes the memories of childhood.) Alice
viking86
That is one happy train! I must admit, until I saw the track in the background, I had completely forgotten that this is a MACK coaster. For some reason I just had this thought in my head that since it's at Disney, it must be a Vekoma...
