Our 2017 Mega Coaster trip report.

Recommended Posts

WOW! Great pictures of a wonderful park! I haven't gone since last year but it is a park I wish I could get to more since I live only four hours away in Springfield, Missouri. It is definitely one of my favorite amusement parks. They maintain their coasters and classic flats nicely and the overall park just looks so good! And they have a decent mix of coasters, two that go upside down, a kiddie one, and two family coasters. And I love their flat rides, especially the flying scooters and the Zamperla power surge. And their Wild West Water Works area is fun, too! They just added a new slide tower in it this year. Speaking of which, the super loop isn't the park's newest attraction, the Gunslinger (Power Surge) opened last year and Gully Washer (water slide) opened this year. Brain Drain opened two years ago. Otherwise, that you for visiting this small park!

I forgot about the new waterslide, as we never went into the waterpark. I also forgot to mention that we stayed at the hotel directly next door to the park, and were able just to walk over instead of having to pay to park. That was an added bonus, as when I booked the room I had no idea that it was directly next door to the park....just close by.

I also have to mention how nice the staff was as well. They were very efficient, and friendly. If I had to pick one negative thing from this park, it would be the food prices. We had gotten 3 small personal pizzas for lunch, and it was near $30. The pizzas were just enough for 1 person and came with a breadstick.

Yeah. The is super friendly. When I went I marathoned the Silver Bullet. Every time the train came back to the station and the lap bars popped up, I would push it back down immediately. One of the ride ops noticed this after my tenth ride and said I reminded him of a young version of the operations manager, so he go on the walkie talkie and asked him to come meet me at the Silver Bullet. He showed me his office which was full of roller coaster memorabilia. And also I was riding their flying scooters and my wallet fell out of my pocket but I didn't notice. One of the ride ops actually chased me down and gave it back.

I didn't eat there when I went, instead I left the park and went to the diner just down the street. But that seems like a pretty steep price. One time when I went to SDC with my friends last fall we wanted to get some pizza at the Crossroads Pizza place in the park. We thought we'd get a large pizza and split the cost. It ended up being $20. I thought that was pretty steep, but I heard good things about it. It took thirty minutes to get it, and it was two TINY pizzas that were burnt on the bottom and there was barely any cheese or sauce. Or crust for that matter. It was terrible. But it is always a fun story to tell.

^^ SDC's pizza is baked in wood fired ovens, so some charring on the bottom is perfectly normal. If it was completely burnt, though, you should have brought that up with staff. SDC takes pride in their food and probably would have replaced it. You don't want to conplain just to get something for free, certainly, but if it was legitimately poorer quality than standard, or not what you ordered, then that is something you don't have to accept.

I never gave this park much thought, but the theming for such a small park is great!Plus they have a Schwartzkopf and an Arrow!

By the way-isn't that Arrow shuttle loop one half of Great Adv's Lightning Loops?

Diamondback was the upper half of Lightning Loops . . . and it's one of only 3 remaining (along with Sidewinder at Elitch Gardens and Revolution at Blackpool Pleasure Beach) Arrow launched shuttle loops in the world

I would have expected some charring, but it was so burnt that it was literally all you could taste. Lol. We ended up just going and getting some corn dogs from Floosy's Fried Fancies. That's what we wanted originally but we thought we'd try the pizza since we never have before. But yeah, I like most of SDC's food. It is my home park so I've tried most of the food. I really like the fried dough sandwiches that are over by Fire in the Hole.

Today's update takes place from silver dollar city. This park has been on my radar for a long time now. I was really impressed with the park as a whole.

The coasters were all top notch, and all had great theaming. Outlaw run is my new #1 coaster. It blew me away with the non stop attack of elements. The one thing that struck me as odd, was how hard it was to push up the lap bar when the ride was over.

The only negatives we ran into at the park was the fact that they only run 1 train on the coasters. What's up with that? The lines defiantly warranted more than 1. Powderkegs line was not that long, but it still took a half hour.

The other negative was the food....its not that the food was bad, but it just seems that it's sister park (Dollywood) had much better southern style foods.

With that being said, we actually enjoyed this park slightly more than Dollywood. I attribute that to the coasters.

The train ride was a blast. I love how you get held up. Besides the coasters, the flooded mine was another favorite.

Onto some pictures....

There it is. The ride was made by S&S. The restraints are very similar to the giant swing rides the produce. This is only the 2nd S&S coaster i have been on. The first being hypersonic at kings dominion. Anybody know how many coasters they have built?

I wish we were able to check out more shows. The only one we were able to see was the dog show.

Being that the park is located in the Ozarks, the scenery is beautiful.

Great ride. This was the first time on the trip that I had to remove my fanny pack(yea...i know). It was not in the way, or intrusive of the restraint.

Sweet! GREAT move going through the cave. If there's anything I preach around here, that's it. Dollywood's food is more southern, but that's because it's in the South. The Ozarks is a weird mashup of Western, Southern, and Midwestern, and I think SDC's food really reflects that well.

Looking forward to the next update!

Yea, I agree.

The food was not "bad", we were just expecting food that was on par with Dollywoods. More on the food coming up.

Hey now....my fanny pack has saved many items from getting lost. Everybody is always asking me to hold onto there items in my pack. I'm married and have 3 kids, so not exactly cruising for chicks...lol

Anyways, onto the rest of our silver dollar city pictures.

Walking up and down the hills of the park all day, we worked up quite an appetite. We decided on the mine restaurant. It's an all you can eat buffet, but it's located in a mine.

20170710_115019.thumb.jpg.43044daca254434f70bc81dbf467a0fc.jpg

This was a really cool restaurant

We made sure to save room for the famous cinniman bread. As you can see, I couldn't even get a picture of it before it got destroyed

20170710_164245.thumb.jpg.3163afc2f1e32017f73acc611075acea.jpg

I really wanted to try one of these, but was so full that it will have to wait till next trip.

Our last coaster was thunderstorm. It's a mine train coaster. A rather fun one at that.

Nice pictures of my home park. It is strange that they were running only one train on the coasters. When I last went (last Thursday) they were running two trains on Outlaw Run, two trains on Wildfire, one train on Thunderation (the other train was on the transfer track and there were guys working on it), and Powder Keg was running all three trains. Did you ride anything else in the Grand Exposition other than the kiddie coaster? I can never pass up the Royal Tea Party, Electro Spin, or Magnificent Wave Carousel if I'm ever in that corner of the park. Oh, and did you check out Fireman's Landing? That area has one of the most powerful S&S Double Shots.

Yea, it was odd. Do they typically only run 1 train or was it just a weird day?

They only run one train on days that it is *dead.* Most of the time they run two trains. And sometimes if it gets more crowded during the day they will add a second train to the track.
