fatdaddy
Six Flags Magic Mountain invited TPR to the opening night of their new live show Throttle Up Dueling Pianos at the FullThrottle Sports Bar. Now, in my mind I'm thinking "Two guys shooting at each other while they play piano, and I drink beer, awesome!", but my imagination may have been a little too vivid. So, what are dueling pianos? It's two piano players taking your request and playing them live while you sing along, clap along, and enjoy your favorite beer and bar food! All that and air conditioning too! Now, the request need not be Beethoven, or even Jerry Lee Lewis, any song new or old can be requested and they'll try to bang it out...ON A PIANO! Yeah, sounds weird, but it was actually fun to see just what they were going to attempt to play next. Sure, they played some classic piano songs, Billy Joel and Elton John, but they also played AC/DC and Metallica...seriously, they did, I'm still confused, but it was fun...I think. FullThrottle Sports Bar has a large selection of beer, and some pretty great bar food. Mix that with the fun of live entertainment, a seat to rest your butt on, and some air conditioning...that's a good time! Thanks to Six Flags Magic Mountain for inviting us. Throttle Up Dueling Pianos runs select day Memorial Day - Labor Day, hope you check it out! Okay, pictures, possibly video(later), but for now... On the way in I caught a little of the FullThrottle Nights dancers. Write your request on a paper and if your lucky you'll hear it live...on a piano! Pork rinds with some steak, cheese, jalapenos, marshmallow topping...no wait that's sour cream, and don't forget the beer! Totally low carb! Chicken quesadilla, chips, salsa, guacamole. The lettuce makes this a salad. Mozzarella sticks, I may have eaten one, or two, or ten... Send up your requests. Sometimes one song takes two pianos...amazing! So, now I'll see if I can find the videos, I know there on my camera, just can't figure out where. But, there are some on my phone, so that might work. I'm rambling, too many pork rinds. In any case, visit FullThrottle Sports Bar and check out Throttle Up Dueling Pianos, and have a beer, and maybe some pork rinds. One more thing, I took along my trusty assistant berryfarm, who also took pictures and video, so look for a post from her. Should be good.
berryfarm
Here are my thoughts on the throttle up dueling pianos. It was really nice to come in to cool air-conditioned room after a long day of riding roller coasters and listen to live pianists. I had a drink or 2 and ate some appetizers while enjoying the live entertainment of the pianists as they took requests and just seemed to know the very song. Full Throttle Nights Justice League Battle for Metropolis update New color scheme for THE RIDDLER’S Revenge THE RIDDLER’S Revenge sign still here Finally scream train match the new color scheme but is only one train have it. Random roller coaster pictures. Edited May 29, 2017 by berryfarm
Nrthwnd
This is the same couple who travel and perform in fairs too, like our PNE last year. Actually, I think they're an annual entertainment for the fair. At least two years now. They're really good and do some nifty piano playing, depending what the number is. And they do the requests too. And they're in the Beer Garden at the fair, right beside the awesome Poutine Stand AND beside that, the annual awesome BBQ Competition! Thanks for the reports, Jennifer and Caesar. Yeah, and the food, too. Yep. Same couple. They were great! This was at the PNE in 2015. They returned last summer. ericthewanderer
Is this dueling piano act a "test run" for other SF parks?I'm asking because I think it could/should work at other parks-namely SFA(at the Saloon restaurant in Coyote Creek) and Great Adv.(at Best Of The West). Nrthwnd
I wonder if they got themselves a juicy contract with Six Flags? It would definitely keep them moving through all the franchises with some pretty nice locations to "Piano Duel," as they are prone to do. I am hoping, however, that they are still returning mid-August to the PNE in Vancouver. EDIT: The PNE in Vancouver just announced their 2017 entertainment, and yes, the duo is coming back, woo hoo! http://www.pne.ca
cfc
I wonder if they know "White Punks on Dope" by the Tubes?
Philrad71
^ FullThrottle Sports Bar has a large selection of beer, and some pretty great bar food Thanks for the great photos - both of you ...all you needed to do was mention "large selection of beer and pretty great bar food" and I was sold. What, they have pianos too?

Yeah, and the food, too. Pretty sure those aren't the same people... And the players at SFMM aren't a couple either. It's amazing to me how slow JL has been moving, but supposedly they're now shooting for a mid July opening. I can't think of the last time they had an attraction open in July. Even Yolo was late June.
