Six Flags New England (SFNE) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Okay, so now that I've had awhile to process this, I have a few takeaways.

1) They're playing it pretty conservative here. The list on the website actually does seem to be a finalized list, and I'm honestly a little surprised by the omission of Pandemonium, Flashback and Wicked Cyclone but I also feel that they can expand to these rides in the future if they desire. I also wouldn't be shocked if they run them earlier in the event on select days... kind of like how St Louis added Boomerang, Mine Train and Sky Screamer when possible.

2) Hours seem to be 2PM to 9PM. The FAQ section lists those as the hours for New Year's Eve and I'd imagine that those would be the hours throughout.

3) It's nice to see Houdini running. I guess they'll do a quick reset after that horrendous Haunt maze and get all of that crap cleared out of there.

4) Finally, HOW COOL IS THIS????? Sure, Wicked Cyclone isn't running but the fact that people in New England will have the opportnity to ride 4 major adult coasters in the winter is insane and if anyone had suggested that this would become a reality even a few years ago they would have been laughed at. It's also nice to see all of their best flat rides (aside from NESS) running for the event. Tomohawk, Buzzsaw and Fireball will definitely make it feel more like a "complete" event.

5) Mention B&M's temperature limits again... do it...

We're looking at you, BGW.

Also I know I said this to you elsewhere Bill but I really think this is kinda crazy, and I didn't expect it to happen in the slightest. If they manage to pull off a successful HITP season more kudos to them.

Oh my god, I just came to the realization that at SFNE you can take those wonderful spiked ciders into ride lines. Somebody pinch me...

Yeah, but I think part of the thing that people don't factor in is that people are really used to the temperature wherever they live. When you tell someone from Florida that people in Massachusetts are riding a 55 mph floorless coaster in December they think they're nuts, but when you live they're you really don't care. These same people go to Patriots games when it's zero degrees and throw snow confetti in the air whenever their team c̶h̶e̶a̶t̶s̶ wins. These same people refuse to wear a jacket until it's like 20 degrees outside. They're used to it, they don't care and they'll happily go to this event.

Honestly since Lake Compounce has been running a successful holiday event for years, I'm really confident that this will be a success for Six Flags. People don't even have to travel to go to this like they do with Great Adventure in most cases. The park is within 10 minutes of a city of over 154,000 people and 20 minutes from a city of 125,000 people. For both cities, this will easily become the premier Christmas family event to go to (and yes... I know about the drive through thing near Springfield).

Hmmm...with HITP at SFNE now, this makes me wonder if maybe, just maybe, they'll give it a try at SFGAm in the future. I won't get my hopes up too high, but I guess you never know.

I'd think that if this is a success the odds of it coming to Great America are extremely likely. There's not a huge difference between this and this. Sure, there's lake effect so there's a chance you'll have to deal with snow (then again, this is highly likely at SFNE also and Great Adventure and SFA aren't immune to it either), but they're clearly not overly concerned. If it snows with any notable accumulation potential they'll close and I'm sure they have the infrastructure in place to clear the midways in a timely manner. They most likely do that anyway even though they're closed for the season.

This is amazing news! While it's a bummer the park's two top coasters won't be open, I really can't complain about having adult coasters available to ride in New England in November and December. I hope the event is a success and can maybe expand to include one of the big coasters down the road.

If you dress like you're going skiing it's perfectly comfortable even in 20 degrees. Heck I went skiing a few weeks ago when it was below zero and put on so many layers on I was overheating.

I don't know what you are talking about with the cheating accusations There's nothing wrong with watching some homemade movies and giving that air back to the community. New Englanders will defend Tom Brady and Belichick like we defend Canobie Lake Park.

I hope this isn't a bad place to ask about this, but Six Flags New England has a deal on on season passes. Right now they seem to have one running through the weekend. I already bought a gold pass for myself and my daughter last year, but I'm hoping to buy one for my niece. It's only $73.99 if you have four people and $133.99 for 1-3 people. I've only been able to find one other person who might be willing to get one. So, I'm wondering if anyone knows anywhere to find buying groups or if they want to form a buying group?

Congrats for landing HITP. You guys will love it. It was a big hit here in St. Louis and you'd be hard pressed to find someone who didn't have a great time when they visited.

As Bill already said, in the event that weather is ok enough and the crowds are there, they will probably be able to bring more of the rides online temporarily. They did it several times at SFSL. Also, hopefully your B&M can be equipped with the vaunted "winter wheels"!

I'm a huge fan of HITP and my family has already planned to visit ours again around Christmas. Riding in the cold with the park lit up is a great experience. If it's successful at SFNE I'd guess all parks in the chain will have it soon enough.
