gerstlaueringvar Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Feels so good to see a TOGO leaving the world excluding those Ultra Twisters and the outstanding ones in Japan.
bonsaiisuperstar Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Do they melt down all that steel i wonder? And yes, Son of Beast did deserve it. A three minute car accident ride experience.
djcoastermark Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Alas, a sad picture indeed of one of the most fun, ejector filled, slam you around, OMG am I gonna die coasters around, Idora's Wildcat. I knew from the first time I saw a picture of it as a kid, I just had to ride it. I am soo oglad I got to marathon ride Wildcat in its last days. Talk about being devastated when I opened the morning paper and saw Her going up in flames. Sorry if these have been posted before. These following pics are demolition by fire. (posted from the Youngstown Vindicator, the local paper there)
robbalvey Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 ^ Great stuff! (in a weird sort of way...) Thanks for posting.
cfc Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 (edited) And let's not forget the Big Bad Wolf. The Big Bad Wolf Memorial Stump (where the sign used to be). The old footers (reused for Verbolten). Edited March 15, 2014 by cfc

julioot Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I could only find this small photo, but here's a photo of the burning Grand canyon in Phantasialand.
Superbatboy Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 I've compiled some of the best "Roller Coaster Demolition Photos" here... 10 Awesome Roller Coaster Demolition Photos As bad as this ride was, this picture made me feel some kinda way. Spent my childhood riding it, so many childhood memories with friends getting off the ride and saying how horrible it was...then getting back in line.
Hilltopper39 Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Seeing pld pictures of Son of Beast kind of makes me wish that thing had survived long enough to let RMC have a chance to work with it. I can jsut imagine a barrel roll out of the station dop, then a gigantic surf curve before the dive into the first helix, then who knows that after that. I know I'm in the minority here but in it's first few years that thing was an exciting ride, the layout wasn't all that great but just the sheer size and power that thing created was a memorable experience (even if that memory was erased from the head bashing in later years). I'm guess we'll never see a wooden coaster that large ever again for good reason but it was kind of cool for a little while.
robbalvey Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 I never get tired of looking at SoB demolition photos! lol
Coaster Hero Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 ^That video was just so mesmerizing for some reason. I watched twice, three times and it's just so awesome
zombi3elephant9 Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 If they ever tear down the Boss at Six Flags St. Louis I'll be there taking pictures
TyRush Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Build things up to tear them down. Aka Son Of Beast
thewesker Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 I never get tired of looking at SoB demolition photos! lol Especially when you consider what replaced it.
Zombielvr2u Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 I felt as if this is worth sharing. I have an old aerial photo of Drachen Fire at Busch Gardens Williamsburg being dismantled in 2002...
Midgetman82 Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 While not as spectacular, I still vividly remember the discussions started in the coaster community from these photos. I have photos of the coaster before the dismantling as well, and might try a before/after photoset someday with Lightning Run.
ImAWalkingCorpse Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 I remember standing along Parvin road watching the Orient Express being torn down. That sucked, but it needed to come down.

I'm guess we'll never see a wooden coaster that large ever again for good reason but it was kind of cool for a little while. While Son of Beast was a sh*tty ride I don't know if I hated it AS MUCH as some people did. On it's worst day I'd much rather ride that than something like Mighty Canadian Minebuster, X2, Green Lantern First Flight or basically any Togo that's ever operated in America. Early on, it was actually kind of fun (though maybe that was just because we didn't know any better). Still, I'm thrilled that they replaced it with Banshee. It was by no means a good ride.
RCjunkie Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 While Son of Beast was a sh*tty ride I don't know if I hated it AS MUCH as some people did.......Still, I'm thrilled that they replaced it with Banshee. It was by no means a good ride. I am extremely please they replaced it with Banshee also, love it. But you have to wonder now (in hindsight) what RMC could have done with it. If they can transform that hunk of garbage that was called Mean Steak into Steel Vengeance we will never know what could have possibly been done to SOB.
Canobie Coaster Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 How had I not seen the Son of Beast demolition photos/video until now.

If they can transform that hunk of garbage that was called Mean Steak into Steel Vengeance we will never know what could have possibly been done to SOB. If I remember correctly, substandard wood was used to build sob. It would have to of been completely replaced. At that point, I dont think it would be cost effective opposed to building from scratch. The ride sucked donkey ball's anyway. The last time I rode sob, I had a river of blood running down my leg from my knees slamming into the handlebars during the ride. Plus, my brain felt scrambled for like a week. Not sure how some people enjoyed this coaster. It was beyond terrable. I can't remember how many, but there several injuries connected to this ride as well. Out of all the coasters I have been on, this is the ONLY one I hated.
