The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Hey crew, i was at the Mountain yesterday 4/10/2013 and took a few shots of Full Yolo Throttle. It is almost complete and when i was there i was hearing a July opening rumor. Not i don't know how true that is.

The park was perfect, got on most of the rides multiple times and even decided to ride Green Lantern. I was so happy to get off that ride and so were my nutts as they were being smash in my boardshorts. Being 6'2 and 225 pounds is not a good combo for that ride but we got 4 spins out of the it since the 2 people in back of me where 2 twinks.

Walking the park by myself was great. I got to see a lot and i my mind thinking of stuff i could paint, remove and add if i owned the park.

Here are the pictures i snapped with my phone.

Enjoy!

It looks pretty "circular" to me. I really think the loop is going to be really intense and fun, especially when comparing it to a coaster like montezumas which I always thought had a pretty intense loop. Also do you guys think the launch will be more intense or a gradual build up into the loop?

Its looks like a shorter launch, so faster exceleration? I would assume so

But its MM, can you use intense as a word to describe one of their coasters?

X2, Tatsu Brezel-loop, Goliath Blackout Helix... Dont think Magic Mountain is a park that is afraid of intense ride elements

^I also wasn't expecting the drop to be that steep. It would be even better if the brakes didn't go up the track that much. Still, hoping for a great ride and that is one heck of a loop indeed. YOLO!

I was also pretty shocked that the drop was as steep as it is. Pleasantly shocked.

I was also glad to see that the brakes didn't start until about 1/2 way down. I was worried we'd get "Kingda Ka'd" but I think there will be quite a nice little pop of airtime coming down the final drop. I can't really think of any coaster that has it's highest drop be right into the final brakes though. I guess TTD?

Looks really cool and fun, it's gonna be weird stopping mid way through a drop. This has gotta be the first drop in the world with brakes in the middle of its drop!

Magnetic brakes don't really stop the train as abrupt as people think. When the train hits the first set of mag brakes, it's still going to be going at a decent velocity, but slowing down at a gradual rate. If not, there wouldn't be as many sets of brakes on the slowdown as there is!

And here is the other...

Together they will be welded in holy matrimony by this chuck of metal right here.

Here's what it looked like when we arrived on the scene.

2.thumb.jpg.f0cef644674de4991a0228e87e58fe6f.jpg

They spelled "YOLOcoaster" wrong.

3.thumb.jpg.aa63753c75e6412af7c2b628c0d8d4d0.jpg

There goes that hunk of metal!

4.thumb.jpg.5e5a05cf80b3fa965e77664ed5e3a9b7.jpg

It's making it's way to the top...reminding everyone of it's message.

5.thumb.jpg.1e5a9be1e6906b4735613fb0a943e769.jpg

It's getting there... these things take time, you know?

6.thumb.jpg.67d912ffa29902842f9d02c0848a7320.jpg

Did you know this piece of steel weighs more than your average Toyota Yaris?

7.thumb.jpg.6d733a7cf23187047c607f14ac2bee32.jpg

Oh, no! It looks like the crane is in the way! Drama!!! How are they every going to get those two pieces to meet???

8.thumb.jpg.2523c7b9cf8e7c011a6dd2f968074717.jpg

Whew! Thankfully YOLOcoaster track as the ability to pass through solid objects, so that crane was not an issue.

9a.thumb.jpg.92ee8e41daa0e278bd699b93d3a51915.jpg

Hey! Crane guy! What are you drinking on the job??? It goes up here!

10.thumb.jpg.d70078ce1255452df08da495ae4f1148.jpg

As the worker guy gets ready to position the track he thinks to himself "Hmmm.... leaving it with that missing piece would be way more YOLO."*

*Note - this was actually a quote from Wes, but we liked it, so we worked it into the report.

11.thumb.jpg.d44578a6495dc8f20ebc00254ea727b5.jpg

Almost there!

12.thumb.jpg.919a548746c833da87392aeb95afa5be.jpg

Guy on radio to the other guy "Hey man...is your piece matching up? Mine is like 5 inches off..."

13.thumb.jpg.a797872c7bff96f2bb58587385ab3641.jpg

Guy says back "Yeah, man, it fits, you just gotta blow on it and then put the cartridge back in...then it should work."

14.thumb.jpg.96b1fd30b0d455939f2f22e3d272f97f.jpg

This is it...the final moments! Tension is building!

15.thumb.jpg.86ea4f3587f907ceea2abb7377914569.jpg

YOLOOP is in place now!

16.thumb.jpg.66eb397bfc3e92ae0640d13339ad295c.jpg

"Just gotta tighten things up a bit..."

17.thumb.jpg.ccc7517707ccbb4079ab88e3afd90514.jpg

Bolts are in place...

19a.thumb.jpg.78c15702e610ae83fbe34ef871379f6c.jpg

"IT'S HAMMER TIME!!!!"

19.thumb.jpg.0a9169601b58525d82cb9f172d5f3b5d.jpg

"All done, time to head back down!"

20.thumb.jpg.f46d8f5c78db668732ed6f535131a9c5.jpg

And here it is! YOLOcoaster's loop topped off!!! HOORAY!!!! And instead of fireworks to celebrate.... instead of champagne and a heard of monkeys, we have something even BETTER!!! Yes!!! It is....

...David wearing a hard hat! YAY!!!!!

21.thumb.jpg.fb788a6a293930ec48962b14437325c2.jpg

Oh, and here's track piece S69. That stands for "Sexy 69" (No, it really does! We wouldn't make this stuff up!)

They have planted stuff to make the park look pretty.
