Fun Spot America Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Just to add a couple of things. The actual name of the Chance/Vekoma coaster is "Freedom Flyer". There was typo on that somewhere before. The coaster is the identical layout to Kvasten at Grona Lund in Stockholm. The restraints are the same as the ones in this photo, no over the shoulder horse-collar. So, hanging - no banging. This coaster will be super smooth, like Steel Lasso in Oklahoma City. If you've ridden that one, you know what I mean. Only this one is taller and longer.

Is everyone ready for the weekly Fun Spot construction update? I am!

These were taken Sunday, so there might have been a little more progress since then. Either way, here you go.

IMG_0742.JPG.5f01506de8bd4c1b8140ea278f4af048.JPG

We have coaster track on site!

IMG_0743.JPG.1f938ca52089f63388cb0935c41a7f9e.JPG

Nothing new at the front (back) gate.

IMG_0744.JPG.53d2a00965e38842d8892fa3078cf138.JPG

More supports have showed up though, and some funky looking ones, too.

IMG_0745.JPG.638d28eb212601d109302574e8b2247f.JPG

I'm not entirely sure what this is, but it's getting some serious acupuncture.

IMG_0746.JPG.da4cb8081697ea8b525a3fb61f00ce8c.JPG

Something tells me this isn't part of the theming.

IMG_0747.JPG.80076907e150617ab6aa50f797f3d918.JPG

They've gotten lots more done with the support structure for White Lightning!

IMG_0748.JPG.60d167c705fa968249d1ce233f1b2e74.JPG

I imagine it won't be long before we see this thing go vertical.

IMG_0749.JPG.7a9086a0c5178c5701e3f57f86f30f38.JPG

I do like how the supports are white.

IMG_0750.JPG.52bb0a5dcbe2c1c14feb5594bf031666.JPG

Waiting patiently to be attached to footers.

IMG_0751.JPG.fb673e40dce8e219de81f06297efe1a3.JPG

Thus ends the "coaster supports" portion of the update.

IMG_0752.JPG.f4fded58f4b16591912f0a9517daeb3a.JPG

They've finished the foundation for the White Lightning station.

IMG_0753.JPG.5833e000d6d7ed2f3561362dc61f6d26.JPG

More work continues on the lift motor house.

IMG_0754.JPG.2095be9a58a5609c43c7c24899e9ccb8.JPG

They've added more to the brackets on the footers since last time.

IMG_0769.JPG.28e343a80e7350be576eca23edd7e235.JPG

This is what one looks like up close and personal.

IMG_0755.JPG.d748171b6d82c990287d7003ef039fea.JPG

Still pouring the footers for the Vekoma.

IMG_0757.JPG.a5df5a700661bc432633ea3e4db31a38.JPG

Lots and lots of progress has been done on White Lightning. Just a few weeks ago, half of these footers were barely finished!

IMG_0758.JPG.a4550aa51f5484d8932bfb4f6ceaabb4.JPG

Electrical stuff.

IMG_0759.JPG.3088c71fd2de59a12c5d577e6cec394a.JPG

Another look at where the Vekoma will reside.

IMG_0760.JPG.2fab038f7e2e7a8e98211fa6b5c106d3.JPG

I really like the gravel underneath the ride look. A lot better than just having weeds.

IMG_0761.JPG.0cee3cf76fe83313d781add0d6c3476d.JPG

One of the top pieces for the Skycoaster arch.

IMG_0762.JPG.630806d5d6306f39988cbbd34e9400b9.JPG

They've also started building the go-kart track expansion.

IMG_0763.JPG.3d419b0561fb741a51ff5ddfb446a54c.JPG

A little perspective on where the turn around is for White Lightning compared to everything else.

IMG_0764.JPG.d14375aadca3d498b2efb61e8e33e082.JPG

Speaking of the turn around, the footers have made it there!

IMG_0765.JPG.659e3174171b5606277dde5966e707c1.JPG

Getting ready to put the foundation down here I'm sure.

IMG_0767.JPG.aad49b88a7666b74cfd37dc86a64ac5f.JPG

That's it for this update, so until next time, BE CAREFUL!

Ok just got back from taking some more pics at the park, and not only has Freedom Flyer gone vertical, White Lightning has, as well!

DSCN7566.JPG.55ab74c70f84a9578ad383649af60883.JPG

Just in the last four days (since the update earlier on this page), lots more track and supports have shown up!

DSCN7567.JPG.136af069728b725b011860f9c5e0cb55.JPG

A couple guys working on White Lightning supports.

DSCN7568.JPG.12f656ad5ff6e0d6fa7f722503877dfa.JPG

Tons more track on site!

DSCN7588.JPG.109838d5aea37c1b95723546b4a6490b.JPG

Seats have also arrived for Freedom Flyer!

DSCN7569.JPG.12545536c5134928144b84e3dc0e44d8.JPG

They've gotten a lot more done on White Lightning supports, too.

DSCN7571.JPG.5caa1ca0b8658f22f8b60a4d418ee110.JPG

This support is getting ready to be raised.

DSCN7572.JPG.d0382485afa8c420533d0c8e4059f2df.JPG

The Enterprise also arrived earlier this week!

DSCN7587.JPG.5be84710f875ef1be19131229da4c686.JPG

The parts are all sitting in a field across the street, sure hope nobody messes with them.

DSCN7573.JPG.1f6a23e488195a56dcf2c21cbcb20fe5.JPG

And we have vertical construction!!

DSCN7574.JPG.6b6372ca732dc8817144001b5112c0a9.JPG

On both coasters!

DSCN7575.thumb.JPG.a4aa3ac21b3aa00da0f0e1699827a94f.JPG

They were busy putting up the 2nd support of the day.

DSCN7576.thumb.JPG.acbba89c8464715915c7e728f2dcf684.JPG

They pretty much ramped this project up to Ludicrous Speed.

DSCN7577.JPG.0a7b618509c1ba4ea524a0946504dcc3.JPG

The two coasters are going to be in fairly close proximity to one another.

DSCN7578.JPG.27a19e77f8eddea770bb8db5359ad5d6.JPG

This is going to look awfully different in a few weeks.

DSCN7579.JPG.e519715484750df8d6f5efe7259ae6cf.JPG

Anyone want to figure out what goes where?

DSCN7581.JPG.778d8c441474a4e3cd3dfb43160a89ba.JPG

They've gotten the gravel all the way up to this building, which is almost the entire length of the ride.

DSCN7582.JPG.6f15b171900cb42bc3624c990b510a95.JPG

More poles have also gone up for the go-kart track expansion.

DSCN7583.JPG.bacab0cb4919968b1d62c6e40daa898b.JPG

The bottom of the turn around is leveled out and the foundation has been started.

DSCN7584.JPG.8305b78e91d9c43acba13adc8075c959.JPG

The top of the Skycoaster is all put together now.

DSCN7585.JPG.3f48ddf4c5269f10bf960220a94b5be5.JPG

The artificial pond is pretty much done.

DSCN7586.JPG.ee35a33aa3358b49b98b4562f4953deb.JPG

One last overview, can't wait to see the progress over the next several weeks!

Love the updates. I feel like White Lightning is going to be one of those small coasters that ends up blowing everyone away. Can't wait to get on it in November when I'm back in Orlando!

I'm hoping it's like Wooden Warrior in that regard b/c that ride is flat out fun! I'm excited for what looks like a great little woodie in Orlando.

Thanks for the update; all those pictures of footers sure looks sexy (for all you footers fetish fellas out there - try saying that phrase three times fast).

Just keep the updates coming and I'll just do my part and drool over the exciting additions to Fun Spot Action Park when two coasters, an enterprise flat ride, and an extended go-kart track are finally opened. Oops, I almost forgot, their new merry-go-round ( which isn't new, but bought and brought from another park somewhere, but will be new to the park - I think I'll go water the ducks!).

"Footers fetish fellas, footers felt fellas, foot felt fellish . . . hey wait up, I'll go water the ducks with you!"

Today I took a little hard hat tour of Fun Spot Orlando's new expansion. A couple of interesting things to note...

- Work on the Vekoma junior suspended is coming along nicely.

- Lots of GCI bents are on site

- SFOG's Wheelie is on site (although wasn't in a place where we could see it today)

- When finished, Orlando will have both the world's tallest and 2nd world's tallest Skycoasters!

- They are on track for a June 8th official grand re-opening!

Here's some pics....

funspot_01.thumb.jpg.a17e7789a6189ff148d426d0023c0b36.jpg

The sign says I'm at Fun Spot, which is good, because that's where I'm meeting people to take me on a tour!

funspot_02.thumb.jpg.969aed225ed476c37352f6ab75657bfd.jpg

Not only are the expanding into the new area of the park, but work and improvements also continue on the current park as well.

funspot_03.jpg.9730d49a76be6246aff3ed13acfec96a.jpg

You're looking right down the middle of the structure of the "2nd tallest Skycoaster" in the world! This one will be 250 feet when built!

funspot_04.thumb.jpg.4c202406421bec5bb07aa6d850ed65a9.jpg

Fun Spot's PR Director Mark gives us a bit of a perspective on how HUUUUGE these pieces are!

funspot_05.jpg.f701252b91adfae6d9698b266161b9b3.jpg

Skycoaster is getting painted and will be ready to go up very soon!

funspot_06.jpg.81e69ad2647cc31644f7475746615834.jpg

This will be the loading platform for the Skycoaster.

The underside of the Skycoaster loading platform.

funspot_08.jpg.4755a24a35e923a2d00fce4c159360da.jpg

This will eventually be "Skycoaster lake." If your false teeth drop out of your mouth while on the Skycoaster, they will fall into here...and here they will stay forever! =)

funspot_09.jpg.bf2b2bc7c9c4745a37de960e93966500.jpg

Bathrooms - these are very important, especially if you have any accidents while on the Skycoaster. (and we're talking about poopy accidents...not any other kind!)

funspot_10.jpg.3821a68eedfe6a5e37e8a1bea8ce4963.jpg

These dots mark the spot where GCI wood....errr...I mean steel is going to go!

funspot_11.jpg.408e2489fb27cd9e797c512dd950e027.jpg

There are a lot of dots on the ground!

funspot_12.thumb.jpg.24d721b28b9cc4e2f6a401404d4b9941.jpg

Connect the dots and you'll have roller coaster! (seriously kids, it's that easy! What are you waiting for? Build one in your back yard!)

funspot_13.jpg.b9adeeec42df789bb9c35d781cc823ef.jpg

Big Blue thing was birthed at Vekoma. Behind it you can see the new park entrance has taken shape.

A few bents (actual term!) ready to go into place.

Here is what has been completed to date on White Lightning.

That's as tall as the Vekoma is gonna get!

funspot_22.jpg.3adf6b1cb9890b3587be0877529c4bc3.jpg

They sure have made a lot of progress over the last two photos! =)

More GCI steel!

This will become the support structure for White Lightning.

A close up of GCI steel bits.

funspot_28.jpg.95140424b9ba26e962494ba1597eb894.jpg

When it's all done, from afar, it will look like a white painted wooden roller coaster!

funspot_29.jpg.789e17b283f7fdd50a0e302a3ac504d3.jpg

Vekoma track....

funspot_30.jpg.e4ea8f873a126bb2b8f31808193f6ce2.jpg

I'm pretty sure all the track is on site (or at least most of it!)

funspot_31.jpg.4818d2ee4490d927506616de6ff46115.jpg

More Vekoma track and things...

funspot_32.jpg.e16436f814a66b7ac64852f08ea2e2c7.jpg

That wraps up this Fun Spot update! Should have some more pics soon! Thanks to Fun Spot for letting us come and poke around today.
