Shane's Amusement Attic

Recommended Posts

There was a special that aired in 2001 on Discovery Channel called "More Top Ten Coasters." It had the very lovely Elissa Alvey on Montu. Please tell me you have the video cause if you could upload it, It would help GREATLY.

I don’t have that video, but try lotion or vaseline...I think that might help you out where you need it...lol

This has been a season of unique exclusives here in Shane’s Amusement Attic. There was the unique look at San Diego’s proposed AeroWorld park (thank you Meyers Jacobson) a look at another proposed San Diego Theme Park called “Gold Springs” and also some unique proposed projects for Paramount’s Great America. Here is another look at something rare that you might not find anywhere else. The 1979 IAAPA Manual & Guide. This guide has ads from parks, manufacturers and suppliers. Back before the days of internet and web pages this was the only way to get information out. So I am proud to present, in a multi-part series, this very unique and exclusive look at the IAAPA Manual & Guide.

I love the Chance flat rides ads - so iconic, and Zipper is the best flat ever in the history of mankind, although the Togo flat ride of hot death in Japan gives it a run for its money. Painful to see the Bell's ad. Great update, Shane.

Was just chatting with a friend locally,

about what the name of that double

ferris wheel was..... Skywheel!

Thanks for that - and Skydiver too!

That used to be such a regular ride

during our annual fair, The PNE.

Lovely to see older flats looking

great and attractive to ride, too.

Especially at night!

Thanks for posting that, Shane. Looking forward to seeing more from the book.

Hard to believe Funtime was only ten years old and yet the transformation of Geauga Lake in that short time, now boasting two looping coasters (a first for an Ohio park), was a big deal back then. Oh, the memories.

With so many companies building giant Ferris Wheels nowadays it would be cool to reintroduce the double Ferris Wheels/Skywheel again though the old Intamin spider arm double wheels were much cooler to ride.

Yes, I do have quite the collection. As a kid I was obsessed with any information I could get my hands on that had anything to do with theme parks. I was fortunate my father was somewhat in the business and that afforded me a lot of opportunities to go to trade shows, meet people in the industry and get back stage inside looks at parks. I also have to thank my Mom who was wise enough not to throw away all my boxes when I left home for college. She put them all up in the "attic" knowing someday I would want to look through it all again...Thanks Mom!

Here is a continuing look at the IAAPA Manual and Guide.

Shane,

Love this thread, as always.

I know it's midwest, but did you ever get into any Riverview (Chicago) stuff? Obviously one of the true classics, with a lot of amazing rides for the time, I just wonder if you ended up hoarding, errr collecting, any of that park's information?

Great stuff, as always, easily the best thread on this website.

Shane, Do you have any Roller Coaster/ Amusement Park Specials?

Yes, there are actually quite a few roller coaster & amusement park special as well as old park commercials all posted within this thread. It may help you to go to page one and go through the index. I have not been the best at keeping it up to date lately but you should be able to find some good viewing under Shane’s Retro VCR section of the index.

Thanks and thanks and unfortunately No. I never went to the park and it was a little before my time and so I don’t have any park material on it either.

Read through most of this thread for countless hours last night and continued this morning. Enjoyed it so much I had to get an account to tell you! Hope Shane's Amusement Attic never ends!

Thanks so much. This thread has been going on for several years and has hundreds of thousands of views. I never thought that it would amount to this.

With Season 4 of Cowabunga Bay winding down I am anxious to get more stuff posted shortly. Thanks again everyone who comments and views this thread and makes it one of TPR’s top ten threads!!!!

I have finally gotten around to finishing the 1979 IAAPA Guide & Manual update. You might have to go back a couple of pages to get the full 111 pictures of this book. Back in the day if you needed a new park, midway game, popcorn or even a camera you couldn't go to the internet you had to get out the Guide and find what you needed. It was sort of the Amusement Industry Bible but without Jesus.

So,in conclusion:
