I honestly cannot believe so many people bitched about the hair! That was right from a scene right out of the movie!

The problem was it looked fine in the movie in 2D but when it was made 3 dimensional in that scene on the ride, it did look really odd.

Posted

Again, I fail to understand the Californian Disneyland fanboy. I rode it several times, saw the hair, thought it looked how it did in the film, never thought twice about it. Sure, I guess it could have looked better, maybe, but really, is it that big of a deal? And this, THIS is what the locals choose to throw a fuss about?!?!? Ariel's hair?!?!?

Ok, let's just say for example, it did stand out and looked somewhat bad, I cannot believe the park received enough complaints that they would change it. What this translates to me is: "The f**king Californians are so annoying about it, we're just going to change it to make them shut the f**k up!!!!"

Seriously, people....it's hair.

Posted

You don't have to be a "Californian Disneyland fanboy" to be distracted by the unfamiliarity of the Ariel anamatronic in that scene. It looked weird.

Period.

Simply put, Lasseter rode the ride, and he did not like the way it looked. He is a big wig at WDI, so its being changed. Is not the locals at the park complaining that caused the change.

While it is nice to see them "improving" something so soon, it seems to me like there are many other things at the resort that deserved attention before something like Ariel's hair.

I honestly can't believe that they described Miceage.com as a Disney watchdog group.

Ha! Park specific forums often do feel like that! Fair enough the ride might warrant the upgrade, but I'm not sure it's worth it for the amount of time it'll take. This is really short notice to take the new and very highly rated ride out of action for a few days for a very minor change, hopefully they don't piss off too many tourists.

And exactly what kind of things, that fall into the relatively same minimal budget and time frame as this quick-fix on Little Mermaid, do you think deserves to be given attention around the rest of the resort?

This was something that even bugged the big-wig himself, and they're quite minimal changes IMO. Any good attraction goes through improvements after being open for a period of time, and I'm glad they're taking the time to do the same to this one.

Posted

I also didn't have an issue with the hair, but it's a quick fix and really not that big of a deal either way IMO.

I don't think Fanboys had anything to do with the change, if that was the case there are a LOT of other things they could have changed before this to appease them.

I totally agree, Joey, there are tons of other thing this money could have gone to. But the budget was probably grouped into Florida's ride, so in the end, it wouldn't have mattered if we got it or not. Its (in a sense) free for this ride if it came from the Florida budget.

Posted

^Regardless of where the money came from, it still just seems silly to me, even though I understand it is a minor "plussing" of the attraction.

Just a hunch, but I am sure there are hundreds of managers throughout the resort begging for money to improve their venues that would have provided more value to the company and the operation.

Posted

I didn't think the hair translated very well from the movie to the 3D animatronic character, but it wasn't like it was a make or break deal. I'm okay with them fixing it, but also wouldn't have really cared much if it was left as is. Much more of a distraction during our first ride on the attraction was one of the Ariel animatronics being cross-eyed. The ride closed shortly after our ride and re-opened later with the eyes fixed.

Posted

^Exactly. Indy is so far from where it was on opening day, yet John Lasseter is bothered by something as Ariel's funky looking hair instead? Of course like Chris said, I am sure that is a product of Florida building the ride, which allows for some creative accounting to make this change happen now.

Posted

I always thought the hair looked odd... but then 30 seconds later it was out of site, out of mind and I didn't care. I had heard the reason they are switching it now was because they had the money to do it and means to do it with the other Little Mermaid ride going in. If they were building another Indiana Jones ride right now, maybe they would do some updates there too.

I just like to see when they improve things, whether it be a 1 year old ride or a 50 year old ride... It's cool they are looking at that kind of stuff.

Posted
You know,if they're picky enough to redo Ariel's hair, maybe they'll take the time to update a ride that could really use it....like, um, Indiana Jones?

You're missing the point. Walt Disney World would have paid for our upgrade by grouping it into their ride because they are getting the same upgrades. This is an extra plus that we woudlnt have gotten now had they not been building the Florida one.

Yes, there are lots of things that can use some money, but we grab some of their Mermaid money for our Mermaid upgrade.

I'd love to see an update to that snake

Does anyone know what refurbishments Indy was scheduled to be closed for today?

It’s hard to believe in just a few short weeks we will celebrate the one-year anniversary of the return of Mlle. Antionette’s Parfumerie in Disneyland park. Over the course of the year, I’ve learned a lot about fragrances and each time I step into Mlle. Antoinette’s Parfumerie I learn something new.

One thing that sparked some interest is that there truly are fragrances, perfumes and colognes that can best suit you, all you have to do is ask. Unsure of what to buy myself and/or my loved ones, I needed a little help. So I knew asking one of our fragrance specialists would be a great place to start.

Here are a few tips I was provided in selecting my perfect fragrance. First, decide if you want a fragrance to suit your mood, personality or even a special occasion. If you’re in the mood to travel, choose a fragrance with exotic notes like Dior’s Escale à Parati, with which you can be whisked away to the beautiful country of Brazil. For more of a sophisticated fragrance, choose something with a little history like Shalimar from Guerlain. If you are partial to floral notes, le bouquet absolu by Givenchy would be the perfect choice. For all you men, try a classic eau de cologne from the Acqua di Parma Colonia collection.

Now that you have an idea on how to select the right scent, stop in and find the fragrance that best suits you or your loved ones, especially for all those special events coming up (Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, birthdays, anniversaries and graduations). If you’re still not sure, make time on your next visit and stop in and meet with one of our fragrance specialists.

Here are a few other things happening during the month of May, in case you are able to stop by and pick up a bottle or two of these new fragrances for the ones you love.

  • May 4-6: Complimentary Bottle Painting with any Fragrance Purchase
  • May 11-13: Complimentary Bottle Engraving with any Fragrance Purchase
  • May 18-20: Complimentary Bottle Painting with any Large Fragrance Purchase

Remember to mark your calendars and join us on the anniversary weekend, May 24 – 28!

  • May 24 – 28: Receive a Complimentary Sample or enjoy Complimentary Bottle Painting or Engraving with any Large Fragrance Purchase

Special Note for Annual Passholders, Disney Vacation Club and Club 33 Members in celebration of the anniversary! May 24 –28, stop by Mlle. Antoinette’s Parfumerie in New Orleans Square to receive a complimentary sample just by showing your Passholder or Membership I.D. card.

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2012/05/all-about-the-details-at-jolly-holiday-bakery-cafe-at-disneyland-park/

One of my favorite places for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack time, coffee time – any time, really – is Jolly Holiday Bakery Café at Disneyland park. From the sandwiches and sweets to the enchanting details, it has quickly become a guest favorite. But no matter how many times you stop by for a treat, you’ll always find new details you never noticed before. In the video below, Jonathan Peters from Walt Disney Imagineering shows us some of the special touches at Jolly Holiday Bakery Café.

Posted (edited)

I have to be honest, the "Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe" really confuses me. When I first heard about it just before Christmas, I thought it was "holiday" themed, being that it was the holiday season, it was a fun play on Mary Poppins and Christmas, and would have holiday baked goods. Then I found out it wasn't a "holiday" place, and it was just a bakery, so I was thinking more breads, cupcakes, and sweeter things, like the bakery on main street of both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom, but it's not that either, it's a "bakery cafe", so it's other things too. But I'm conflicted as to what I think it serves, and I feel it's trying to please too many of my taste buds at one time, so I sort of just avoid it!

It reminds me of the late comedian George Carlin when he said "I don't like eggplant because I don't like things that can't make up it's mind. Are you an egg or a plant??? Tell it to make up it's mind and then come on back!" I feel like telling the Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe the same thing!

^ I've been referring to Jolly Holiday as having "ADHD". Like it get's bored with just being a bakery then goes into "Cafe" mode, but it's not REALLY a "Cafe" because nothing is really cooked there (just heated up).

The food is kind of like the Starbucks sandwiches that are pre-made and heated up when you order them. So I guess that's maybe a point towards the "Bakery" side? But technically not a bakery because nothing is actually baked there either.

It's all just so confusing. (but it's a nice addition)

As for the theme, it works for me. Don't get the Disneyland fanboys started on it being themed after a British Nanny on a turn of the 20th century themed street though.
