I'm so close to reaching my goal from donations!! Thanks to all who have donated. On a side note as you can see my coasting for kids banner accidentally got erased when I was changing my signature. I tried to post the link and see if it will give me the official banner back but it won't. Can a moderator or someone that knows help me get it back? Please and thank you!

Fixed the signature back for you.

I don't remember how I got back to the hotel last night, but the important thing is that I did. And since I don't remember that I'm pretty sure I didn't anything about me here. So...

As my forum name might suggest I'm Chad of Chadster's Vacation Adventures and have been around theme parks since I was 2 and have been on TPR about 2 years now. Traveling is my main hobby, afterall I have spent all by the last 5 years in some sort of service industry profession ranging from hotels to casinos and a few things in between. For the most part I base my travel on nearby attractions and parks and not just, oh that sounds like a fun place to see, although I have been known to drive several hundred miles just to eat at places featured on Triple D.

Fortunately I am able to bring everyone some awesome content thanks to loads of vacation time and believe it or not, I only post about half of the places I visit each year on TPR! Last year I had planned to partake however a planned trip got in the way. Why do I want to do this? Well for the children, yes. But what sparked my interest in helping out was a young boy in Mom's Kindergarten class. At 3 years old he was diagnosed with cancer of the inoperable kind. The cancer began spreading rapidly to various parts of his body as his parents took him from Dr. to Dr. They were able to get him into an experimental program with oral chemo that slowed the cancer to the point it was no longer spreading. He had his good days and bad days where he was either too weak to walk or full of energy. But through it all he kept a positive outlook on life and to him, everything that was going on was just normal. To the rest of us it was nothing short of amazing to see how well he adapted to his situation.

So when the opportunity to raise money for GKTW, an organization that provides children with similar medical issues the opportunity to truly be normal for even a week came along, I had to jump on it as it has a special meaning. Places like the GKTW Village and Victory Junction do wonders for the morale of kids and parents alike. And for that one week parents don't have to worry about how they are going to pay the bills, where is the next meal coming from, or when is the next Dr. appointment, they can just be a family and watch their child be happy.

So whether you donate to me or someone else, I don't care. $5 helps a lot, just think if every member on TPR dontated just $5 how much money that would raise to provide a week of happiness.

Oh, and as for the boy, he's about 11 now, living a somewhat normal life while still taking chemo pills from time to time. And to think, the Doc's said he wouldn't make it past 5.

Please donate so I don't have to eat this dog.

That's an awesome story Chad.

While I don't have anything as personal as that, the reason I love to support children charities like GKTW is because my wife and I are lucky to have two healthy children and we've always felt the desire to help out those who don't. What better way to help the family of these kids than to give them some kind of "normalcy", even if it's only for a week.

I did the event last year at Knott's and I think we've already got more people attending than we had last year, and that's an amazing thing.

Last years event was so well run and I know this years will be no different.

I'm also quite happy that my daughter is going to be doing the event with me this year. She's also looking forward to it and is on "Team TPR" even though she's not on the boards.

As Chad said, it doesn't matter who you donate to, just please donate. It's all going to a great charity. Obviously we want everybody to make their minimum donation of $75 so they can participate so please, if you see anybody on Team TPR that needs some help reaching their minimum help that person out.

I've also gone ahead and set my email calendar to remind me to donate each time I get paid for the next 3 months. So while I don't know how I'm going choose "who" get's my donations every two weeks I encourage others to do the same. Even if it's $5, it goes a LONG way.

Like others I'm hoping to find some fun ways to figure out who get's donations. I'm open to suggestions.

Agreed. I've set up a reminder as well. I've been keeping track of peoples pages and when April's pay comes along. I'll be donating to some of the ones who aren't quite at their $75 minimum.

Also, in my Forst Files thread, the Delgrosso's report has gone up. Hershey Park will go up tomorrow and a couple more early next week! Also there on page 2, there are some Teaser photos, there are still a couple that haven't been guessed. Go play along!

I believe this is still available! I'll up the ante and throw in a RAW DVD (of your choice) to whoever donates for this T-Shirt!

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume that we must have some Star Wars fans here in the group. Well, I recently came across an awesome Darth Maul Episode 1 t-shirt in my storage from an old business that I owned, and I want to give it away! So, here we go...the first person to donate $20 (or more) to my Coasting for Kids page will get this shirt! Sound like a plan? Oh but wait...let me tell you a little about this shirt: It is "brand new" and has been perfectly stored since the original theatrical release of Episode 1. It is size adult XL and still has all of it's original tags. I must say that it's pretty awesome.

Just go donate, then come back here and post that you've donated for the shirt. Once I see something posted, I'll PM you to get your address for shipping (US address only please). http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/craigjensen/CaliforniasGreatAmerica

What an amazing thread!

If I could have one wish, it would be to round all of you up and fly you down to Orlando so that you could see the Village with your own eyes. Instead, I'm going to do the next best thing and attempt to post a photo in here each day to familiarize you with GKTW. Enjoy and keep up the great work .

village_idol.jpg.5d29c09b6ef857de1dd08df02baad570.jpg

The Village has special entertainment each evening for the families to enjoy. Tonight (and each Wednesday) is my personal favorite, Village Idol. Contestants get up on stage and sing, dance or perform a special talent. We've had parents tell us that their kids would never get up on stage at home, but here they are not the only child in a wheelchair or who is bald or who has scars. It's truly remarkable to see our special little guests come out of their shells!

^ That is amazing! I would LOVE to work/volunteer at a place like this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I miss working with kids every day of my life. I used to work at a Boys and Girls Club of America - I did it full time for almost 3 years. I loved seeing "my" kids every day and I knew they loved it too.

Hey everyone! Time for me to post a bit about myself.

I'm Paul, and I'll be coasting at Canada's Wonderland for this event.

I've been riding and obsessing about coasters most my life. I've been a member of TPR for as long as I can remember, and have been on a handful of trips. (UK 2006, deep south/texas, indimidatour, and Japan 2011).

I hadn't heard about this event in the past, but when I read about it I just knew I had to take part. Although I don't have any personal reasons to motivate me, it seemed like a great opportunity to give. I get to ride a coaster for six hours, and in exchange I get to raise money for a good cause. In my mind, I'll be doing what I would be doing anyways, but raising money for charity at the same time. It's a win/win.

GO TEAM TPR!!

Sad to see that I haven't gotten any bites for my offer to donate $50.00 to anyone that writes me a short story (five sentences) about velociraptors and their awesomeness.

Hey There Mighty Generous Peeps!

I have three shirts that I am reluctantly going to let go of to support the Kings Dominion Team. Two Kings Dominion Intimidator 305 First Rider shirts and one Carowinds Intimidator First Rider shirt. These were my shirts from the First Rider events. I participated in both of them. All three shirts are in new condition and have never been worn. They are short sleeve t-shirts and all are size large. They have been hanging in my closet since I brought them home. I will be sad to let them go, but thrilled to send them off to someone who will enjoy them. Plus, I will be even more thrilled to raise some more money for the cause! I will pay for shipping to US residents. If anyone from overseas wants to buy any, we can work something out.

The grey Intimidator 305 shirt was only given to participants of the charity first ride event. It is double sided, high quality and gorgeous! The first person to donate $30 (or more) to my personal page can have it!

The white Intimidator 305 shirt was given out to anyone who rode on the first day. (While supplies lasted which was not very long!) KD was handing them out to riders after they exited the ride. It is single sided, and it looks good. Not as snazzy as the grey one, but still pretty good. The first person to donate $20 (or more) to my personal page can have it!

The black Intimidator shirt from Carowinds was given to me for participating in the first rider event. I do not know if they were also given to other first day riders or not. It is single sided, and it looks sharp. The first person to donate $20 (or more) to my personal page can have it!

After you donate, please be sure to PM me and tell me which shirt you bought and if you could post a reply here to let others know so they don't try to buy an already sold shirt! Also, if you have any questions, message me.

Thanks everyone!

^^ The velociraptor is just a plain out cool Dino. One of the best dinosaurs that could've existed in fact and would give honey badger a run for his money should they still exist in this day and age. Unless the raptor being discussed is a broken velociraptor animitronic on Jurrasic Jungle Boat Ride, then it's just a sad representation of how these creatures truly existed. Summed up the Velociraptor shouldn't be messed with and is indeed the best Dinosaur that existed.

How's that Chris?

Hi, I'm Chuck Campbell, and I'll be Coasting for Kids at Kings Dominion. You might be wondering why.

I've been living in Virginia since the mid-1980s, but I grew up in Patterson, California--a small town in the Central Valley. I was lucky enough to have parents who enjoyed visiting Disneyland, Knott's, and Universal as much as their kids. So, every other year or so, we'd make the pilgrimmage south down I-5 to enjoy a few days at the Magic Kingdom. I have fond memories of opening and closing the park on summer days and nights--back when Disneyland was regularly open until midnight or 1:00 am!

Yes, I was very fortunate growing up--and to be able to travel the world to visit parks with Theme Park Review and all the great friends I've made here. This is why I find the mission of Give Kids the World so inspiring. It's the perfect chance to help others who are less fortunate share some of the good fortune I enjoyed (and still enjoy) as a kid.

GKTW has never turned down a child in need--and never will. But fulfilling their mission, and even improving on it, needs all our support. So, please donate! It doesn't matter how much. Help Give Kids the World make sure that seriously ill children and their families have a chance to take the vacation they've always dreamed of.

Thank you.

I don't post on these forums, but I thought it would be worth it to post on this particular one.

I went to Give Kids the World a few years ago on a Make-a-Wish trip for my sister Mackenzie. She has a rare disease called MPS III. For the Make-a-Wish trip, we chose to go to Orlando, to spend a week at Disney World. We thought we would spend the week in some kind of on-resort hotel, but they sent us to this place we've never heard of called Give Kids the World. I knew nothing about it. Everything about that week at that place was amazing. The service, the people (they are all volunteers), everything about the place was just beyond amazing. They have free ice cream, entertainment, they've got a carousel for god's sake. Now, whenever we visit Orlando, we always go back to revisit some of the great memories we had there. The place is always growing, in just a few years they've gotten a new water-play area, and a new fully handicap-accessible playground, and new houses for the families to stay in.

I promise you that this is the absolute-best place that Cedar Fair could be donating that money to. Everything that they do for the kids that go there is just pure outstanding. If you have any doubt about this place, send me a message, I WILL prove you wrong.

I am not positive if I will be able to ride (if I do, I will ride at King's Dominion), but I am really hoping that I will be able to make it. It's a great way to spend the day, and an even better cause.

P.S. I still have the GKTW Candy-Land board game that we received while we were there. If anyone wants to play me, I'm available!

Hey,

I actually registered yesterday, but this is the first time I have had the time to post something more substantial. I have been around TPR for a little over two years. Been moving around with school and what not and have never had the money, nor been close enough to go to any type of TPR event. Finally I have settled in one place long enough and got me my first "real" job with an engineering design firm, so hopefully I can have the time and money to join in a few more TPR events.

I had never heard of Give Kids the World until I read about this event. I can remember my very first roller coaster ride (Thunder Mountain) at Magic Kingdom when I was 10. Since then its been a love affair with coasters and parks. It is a great opportunity to be able to help share that excitement with a deserving child and their family.

Hopefully you all can help us at Carowinds make a difference in some child's life.

I noticed most people end with some pictures of themselves at parks. Not a big picture person, so Ill leave you with a pic of an awesome waterfall. Its almost as good... Almost

I've been here in the shadows for a while. I don't post much because I rarely get to the parks like I did when I was younger.I play ice hockey part time as a goalie. I have always been a fan of thrill rides. My family would take me to mostly the traveling ghetto carnivals as a kid and I loved every minute of it. In high school, I picked up a Paramount's Great America season pass and used it every weekend. Those were a good few years. I even got to season pass preview Stealth...way back when. I have rode at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and I am a huge Disney fan (though I've only been to California's parks). I would say my favorite coaster is Medusa as Discovery Kingdom. I am 34 years old now and have a great wife (though she is not a thrill ride fan), so I don't get to ride as much as I would like. I sell work boots for a living and saw this event as a way to both give to a very good cause and FINALLY get some more rides in. If anyone out there wants to help an old goalie out here is my link http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/raymondmahnke/CaliforniasGreatAmerica and here are some pictures
