Getting all caught up again and WHEW!! is there a lot to get caught up on! What awesome scenery and funny rides.

I have to ask about the temperatures and Robb's comment about "East Coast parks", which I took to mean US parks. What is the temperature there and why do they keep their parks open when we don't? In addition to climate, the US parks have always cited the decline in tourism in the winter months-basically making it not worth the operating dollars to be open. In many of the pics you guys look like you are the only ones there, so I am curious to know how it is financially possible for the parks to be open?

Continued fun and safe travels...

Shari

I believe the temperature today will be in the low 30s.

FANTASTIC photo TR, wonderful reports & all those hilarious captions!!!

Gosh, I missed Japan so much, makes me want to jump on a UA flight to Tokyo right now.

Robb/Elissa, may I know if you guys will include a Japan Trip Planning Guide like your previous trip? It will be great if you can provide some info on travel routes to all these parks.

I am thinking of buying a 7 day JR pass & like to make the most out of it. Hence, I like to know how many different parks outside of Tokyo I can squeeze in with this pass.

Also, I intend to have my accomodations only in Tokyo so is it still feasible if I want to visit say, Parque Espana, take the earliest shinkansen there & the latest shinkansen back to Tokyo?

Cant wait for the Nasu Highland photo TR as I have been longing to hit this park.

Have a great New Year!

Best regards, Aqua.

Here's a couple of photos for now, but we have to return to Tokyo Disneyland. We'll have a full Photo Update tonight from the Tokyo Disneyland Countdown party and Nasu Highland IN THE SNOW!!!!!

BTW, it's already 2006 here! I love living in the future!

The park is actually OPEN!!!! Why can't the East Coast parks in the US be open during the winter!

And yes the rides were open! Even the dragon wagon for the REAL credit whores!

This wasn't like a "dusting" of snow, this was like SKI RESORT snow!!!

Thank you Woopy for opening up your park in the snow! You're already better than most US parks!

TDL's Countdown party was AMAZING! 100,000 people in the park and we still rode Space, Thunder, Buzz, IASWH, Pooh, Gadget's, had dinner, and saw the fireworks....all in 4 hours!

What you are looking at is 100,000 Japanese people sitting down, covering main street and the entire hub, to watch the countdown fireworks!

Day Ten - Nasu Highland or....our WEIRDEST park day...EVER!!!

Today started out pretty normal. We left our hotel, hitchhiked our way to Nasu Highland (and the guy that picked us up was none other than Chris Belson! What a coincidence, huh?)

On our way to Nasu it got colder. And then getting into the town, it got "snowy".....A LOT snowy!

Let's just say that getting to the park was an "adventure" in itself, and there was a point in which we almost turned back. But we knew that we were beyond the point of no return!

I'm actually going to post the photos now, because I think this TR is better done with pictures.....so, here goes....

asia537.jpg.8fcc2ea93f0e953bb77740f0436eacc4.jpg

"Now we're off to Tokyo Disneyland for the Countdown Party!" (Remember the mini-escalator from last year's update?)

asia535.jpg.e2b4936c448368c3c9cf19641a50bfa2.jpg

"Oh, wow, good thing it's gotten a lot warmer since this morning!" =)

asia531.jpg.1583a630d7b446c26dcee32d79d28d10.jpg

We left our mark in the snow!

asia534b.jpg.ca5d81b4b386ef9f169df7ead50bef97.jpg

"Thank you Woopy for opening your park today! We had an awesome time!"

asia542.jpg.88a05dfe5599f8f62e54437f8c16099f.jpg

"Knott's Berry Farm closes the entire park in a light drizzle, but these parks are open in any weather conditions! I love Japan!!!"

asia541.jpg.b8e858c5d48ac2ce39633987870608ff.jpg

The customer service in this country is so awesome. Tons of staff were out shoveling the walks as if thousands of people were going to show up today!

asia540.jpg.8cc0a4149c5681d136a6f0acc56073c5.jpg

It was amazing that they had most of the coasters, flats, the space shot, etc open when there was about 20 people in the park and it was SNOWING!!!!

asia539.jpg.ef47dc6f09c7488b994a58ddd4395f9d.jpg

"My shoes are 2 feet deep in the snow, most of the rides are open, and this is the last time I follow Chris Belson through a forest!" =)

asia534.jpg.a21bdbb1400cd851787cf7be1daac88a.jpg

Oh, darn. The SLC was closed. What a shame! =) If there had to be a credit to miss out on, I'd rather it be the SLC than anything else!

asia532.jpg.1d265ff1f0ee2d050d8c8a5dd960612b.jpg

Once again, a sign that the world is nearing it's end when Elissa is eating "normal food"

asia533.jpg.9e19a66df0e63a610fe77439b52b08b4.jpg

Can we just mention one more time how INSANE it is that they are running all these coasters in the SNOW?!?!?!

asia530.jpg.8b94c4a5fbef1b1f19473bba81fe88a9.jpg

"Tires...why did it have to be tires?"

asia529.jpg.017b837d1992135d3cdb7bc5dcce8c6a.jpg

See that drop? That's STEEP! See that snow? That's COLD!!!!

asia528.jpg.1cd659081df418e250494b03b03439d8.jpg

Here we go up the snow-filled lift!

asia527.jpg.c4ff8555024e38ecfafb140d038947d4.jpg

I'm not sure how steep this drop is, but it feels like it's about 80 degrees! I wish the weather felt 80 degrees!"

asia526.jpg.4f6f8b96c63d0603787f48d1082d603b.jpg

"I have no idea how all those ACErs fit in these trains!"

asia525.jpg.3c48aabc29b3732c08f5eee601cd0b50.jpg

It also has something for Derek....A vertical loop!!!!

asia524.jpg.23071b7d89ad451a0070db1735ac6974.jpg

"Big Boom" was the best coaster of the day. Not only does it have a really messed up name, but it had some crazy EJECTOR airtime!

asia523.jpg.5a9ce59a26a7243c0d4a058f76e9d659.jpg

Unlike the version of this at Hamanako Pal Pal, this one actually IS a mouse! (sort of....)

asia519b.jpg.eb80976d8e26be81eac4a94829f51f1a.jpg

Panic Drive finally opens! It wasn't as scary as sliding through the snow to get to the park!

asia522.jpg.f8248ee2dfccb0a24e4e71b91eaf8900.jpg

You can see that this ride goes all over the place.

asia521.jpg.78f520491dc62101af31e2e72a41a209.jpg

Camel Coaster (WTF?) was one of those "Jet Coasters" that are REALLY long, but don't really do too much.

asia520.jpg.a40d8e94d492abe8c835ac605ea53be9.jpg

"Check out my new skeleton gloves!"

asia519.jpg.132f2c7dc3585217afe672a2dac19aec.jpg

This is "coaster plaza" where the park has built 4 coasters right on top of each other!

asia517.jpg.47910c7d780f849bdf80012acb01893c.jpg

You can see there is still snow on the coaster tracks! And BTW, it's STILL snowing too, it's just hard to see in the photos.

asia516.jpg.6f4bfb09e3f224c3fcc67cf8e5dd4e91.jpg

"WTF?!?!?!? If this park can be open with 5 foot snow drifts why can't Cedar Point or King's Dominion be open during the winter?!?!?"

asia518.jpg.e41e2538160548895c1a3ca9d8648244.jpg

Yes! The read credits start to open!

asia515.jpg.730c35650f38c59b3e7b554826452360.jpg

"I know, it's a powered coaster, but still IT'S A COASTER!!!! IN THE SNOW!!!"

asia514b.jpg.77fe2cc254a91d70aaac827b14e55376.jpg

YAY!!!!! One by one most of the coasters started opening!!!

asia514.jpg.0e0825f31e225344c3668a8e22db522b.jpg

"Hey, if it will help get the coasters open faster, I'm willing to help out!"

asia513.jpg.d9bc67c0f108922b81c67d1c08d032ee.jpg

I think that the "Panic Drive" was getting to the park!

asia512.jpg.98a0236c5396b32bab3d273f49490eef.jpg

Elissa's new best friends!

asia511.jpg.6f425ce2bd7413e6f1625122722d53fd.jpg

While we wait for the park staff to vacuum the snow out of the trains (yes, you read that correctly) we were invited into the Lego display.

asia510.jpg.ad51b29beb0e57326ddadb3b211ef9b5.jpg

"Are we INSANE?!?!? What the HELL are we doing here????"

asia509.jpg.dea2b02efcf522947a6f5d1f5cbf5231.jpg

And yes, you read that correctly...the outside temp is only 24 degrees!!!!

asia508.jpg.92e740c0901402868d5ea2d7ad949663.jpg

The road getting to the park was "interesting." Normally, if this was just about anywhere else in the world, we would be on our way to go snowboarding, NOT roller coaster riding!!!

WTF! The weather out here is warmer than that and there isn't even snow on the ground, but nooooo, everything's gotta be closed. Now I have a bad urge to go get some credits at Geauga Lake that I still need.

Anyway, I see that Lightning Coaster is still standing in the pic from Camel Coaster, did you happen to take a look at it? I know it's been SBNO for a long time but it's a shame to see a Schwarzkopf-designed coaster rotting where it stands.
