montezooma
Canada's Wonderland Here is a little something that Canada's Wonderland sent out to me before their big grand opening. Amazing how much this park has changed from those early days. I have also included some old super 8 movie footage I shot at the park on my first visit back in the 80's. Dailey Enterprizes
Whoa, that video was lagging a bit. It kind of reminded me of when No Limits first came out and my computer couldn't handle Open GL. It's cool though and that "Swingaround" lookalike makes me miss Kennywood's version... I miss it a bunch.
RoCo
Loved the home movie footage! There's something about old super-8 clips of amusement parks, with the colors fading, etc., that I find compelling, like I'm remembering a dream or something. Very cool. DarienLaker
Seems Like Canada's Wonderland's mountain looked better before Vortex took over the mountain in 1991 It even had a waterfall.
-Edge of Beast-
Very interesting! Much different than it is now. Thanks for sharing Shane!
1pizza14
Wow! Thanks for that amazing footage/info! I find it really cool to see what CW looked like back in the day! MUCH different than it does now. For some reason WIld Beast looks MASSIVE! It seems to tower over everything! Also notice the fan curve is much different that it looks like today! Thank you so much for sharing this footage!
beatle11
Seems Like Canada's Wonderland's mountain looked better before Vortex took over the mountain in 1991 It even had a waterfall. It still does have a waterfall. One of the things CW has going for it is that it's just a really nice looking park. I'm amazed by all the great sounding international food they had there, and now it's average at best Cedar Fair stuff.
aimster
I remember visiting Canada's Wonderland back in 1988. Really nice park but I thought I was going to die on a couple of the coasters. The stand up one was so slow I though we were going to get stuck upside down in the loop! And I remember one of the wooden coasters only had a lap bar like on Blue Streak at Cedar Point (doesn't go all the way down to your lap) and I was hanging on for dear life because the airtime would have made me fly out of the coaster otherwise. I hope that one eventually got seatbelts or something because that was effing TERRIFYING! I do remember LOVING the coaster/mine train that went through Wonder Mountain. Thunder Run, I believe it's called? Yeah I rode that a bunch of times. I hope to go back there again one day.

Nrthwnd
...and the Pirate Ship! That was an awesome super-8 there, Shane. So many great great shots of the few coasters that were (then) there at CW. Thanks for sharing this great video keepsake of yours.
thecoasterkid
That's some great old footage of CW, Shane. Thanks for sharing! This reminds me of the information packet that you sent me! I still have that around and re-read it every now and then! I'll have to scan it and upload it to the site one day. Maybe I'll get around to it when you finally come up for a visit. Thanks a LOT for sharing this Shane! I love your thread and reading up on the history of parks like this. Wonderland has always been special to me and I can't get enough of old footage and information like this on the park. The interlocking bricks and overall beauty of the park are things that still set it apart from the competition to this day.
asimowalk
Great stuff! Thanks for sharing! It's really interesting to see how the park has grown up. Watching the video, it's pretty obvious that the park was sitting on former farm land. Now it's obvious that it's in the center of a suburb with all of the commercial development picking up around the park, especially after Vaughan Mills. To be honest, the mountain seems really out of place when there's not much in the back drop, but it definitely looks more majestic with it's lighter complexion, more detailing, and the many waterfalls. Other than the three on the front, the only other one I can recall as a kid (in the 90's) was the one behind between Vortex's lift hill and drop. From what I remember, one year it was turned off, then the next year it was made into a planter with a bunch of trees. The last thing is that this is probably the only time I've ever seen video footage of Blauer Enzian in it's former place. Can you recall what the original layout was like? chemical_echo
Awesome stuff. I never knew that they had considered Milton as a potential location; I wonder what the park would have been like if it was built there. I'd imagine more room, since Milton has only really recently started to grow, but then again the park wouldn't have the entire GTA for visitors. rollin_n_coastin
Shane, love the Super 8! So good to see something else in the format that's not my parents' wedding lol I remember visiting the park at that point but only tall enough to ride the swans and balloon race. Watching my family ride Blauer Enzian, the UFO and the pirate ship, I thought the rides would eat them and I'd never see them again The big constant is the landscaping--it keeps getting better each year. Really glad that Cedar Fair got all the waterfalls working again.

montezooma
Shane, love the Super 8! So good to see something else in the format that's not my parents' wedding lol I too love this format (super 8) and seeing that others do as well has inspired me to post some of my favorite clips from my super 8 collection. montezooma
You certainly can’t have a top 5 without Greezed Lightnin from AstroWorld [coastertube]http://www.themeparkreview.com/coastertube/play.php?vid=GreezedLightnin[/coastertube]
montezooma
WOW! Here is some great old footage from Knott’s Berry Farm along with a great song from Heaven 17. montezooma
How could I not feature the long lost Laser Loop from Kennywood…? [coastertube]http://www.themeparkreview.com/coastertube/play.php?vid=LaserLoop_1[/coastertube]
montezooma
And rounding out the Top 5, I must feature this footage from Circus World featuring the park and it’s two coasters. A.J.
Every single video I see of the Kings Island Bat makes it more and more intimidating.
CorkscrewFoley
Shane, amazing stuff here as usual, my friend. At the risk of sounding off like someone my age...those videos show you exactly how a Schwarzkopf shuttle coaster should be ran. One question, what's the name of the band/song for the Bat? I want to say porcupine Tree, but not sure.
