Kudos to USH for limiting these. The event sold out almost every night last year, so limiting the amount of frequent fear passes is a great idea. The hardcore fans still get an opportunity to go numerous nights for a great price, and it allows the park to sell more regular priced tickets.

More regular tickets sold=more money to keep the event growing! Helps them avoid the "Disney AP" problem too.

I went last year for the first time and absolutely loved it! I can't wait for this year!

One question though, this year are they going to sell the 'front of the line' pass in the sense that the longer you wait to buy it the higher the price goes up? If so I'm getting my tickets as soon as they go on sale!

And I'm really excited that the Rob Zombie maze is back, that was a seriously sick maze.

^I would recommend purchasing in advance. On nights the event is listed as sold out (which will at least be every Friday & Saturday based on past years trends), online sales will stop early on (maybe even the day before) and ticket sales will stop at the booths very early in the night.

This is my third year (in a row) going to the event. I love that's it's just so full on, the scare-actors come after you like you did something bad to their family, and it's so immersive: there isn't many parts of the park that aren't Halloweened up, which is one advantage to being smaller than Orlando.

Now I'm just waiting for the tix to go on sale.

EDIT: there were some very good Club TPR discounts for HHN last year, so keep an eye out to see if they are available this year.

Tickets are now on sale!

Also of note, the change in the policy for the FOL pass:

http://www.halloweenhorrornights.com/hollywood/2011/tickets/Front_Of_Line.html

Why wait when you can skip right to the blood and guts with a Front of Line pass?

Front of Line Privileges include:

-Front of Line entrance once at each maze and attraction

-Reserved seating at "Bill & Ted's Excellent Halloween Adventure"

-Exclusive entrance through security and into the park

Halloween Horror Nights Front of Line passes are limited and are sold on a first come first served basis. They will sell out. Advance purchase is strongly recommended. For unlimited Front of Line access to mazes and attractions, check out the RIP Experience (more details coming soon).

Scream I dont want to say officially... but I'm pretty sure this is the main entrance SZ.

The infamous Ghostface Killer from Scream 4 is on the lose and may be right behind you -- ready to strike with his razor-sharp blade!

Zombieville England area

Feel your stomach churn as you encounter a decaying English village, ravaged by the walking dead. Breathe in the foul stench of decay as the corpses of butchers, barbers, and yes—even senior citizens, reawaken in search of satiating their hunger for human flesh.

The Reapers Lower lot

The Grim Reaper and his evil minions of death have been unleashed upon the Earth, equipped with mutilating chainsaws. There's nowhere to run or hide; death lurks around every corner!

Klownz New York

Murder and mayhem reign as an ultra-violent gang of clowns take over "The Big Apple." These psycho circus rejects are armed to the teeth and hell bent on destruction…yours! Now that the Klownz have come to town, the city will never be the same again!

Freakz France area

A renegade band of out of work sideshow performers have set up camp on the smoke-choked streets of Paris. With the Freak Shows shut down and food in short supply, the Freakz have developed a taste for human flesh! If you venture into their camp after dark, you may not make it out alive!

A few repeats and the THIRD YEAR of Freakz... but last year was my first HHN and I found it to be pretty solid and seeing as 5/6 of out mazes are original and a new TT I see no reason for complaint as year after year the Knott's scarezones rarely change. Klownz is back as well and I liked that one also!

Reapers is kinda interesting though... I don't know if I like them with chainsaws and scythes would be MUCH better... but I didn't like the saw pigs... so this is better. Zombie zone is solid and will be fun since I love zombies.

Another thing I'm wondering is if one of these scarezones will overlap into Wild West Streets or if that area will just be a dead zone. They learned their lesson with La Lorena in the scare zone, but it seems to me that I'd rather have La Lorena then dead space...

Universal Studios Hollywood invited Theme Park Review to a Halloween Horror Nights preview event! In addition to the normal media event held on the first day of HHN, today's event was a preview of the special effects make-up and costumes!

After a warm welcome from John, we were brought into the Globe Theater for a close-up look at this years Costumes and Make-up.

In addition to masks, foam latex prosthetics are used for some of the lead characters in the mazes and walk-around areas.

This performer is being made into the La Llorona character. (See the concept art behind the performer.)

10.thumb.jpg.fc158c5baf699ed9e967566ae5005f58.jpg

The make up artist uses a glue to coat the body side of the prosthetic.

11.thumb.jpg.14a7e21b9a838d1c1a73b1efdaa5bbd2.jpg

The artist centers the nose first, then works his way out toward the ends of the prosthetic. The eyes are not fully connected in order to make the prosthetic generic, so it can fit many different performers.

12.thumb.jpg.a5293bce9249d186fdff2cb1580b647f.jpg

Once the prosthetic is most attached, the artist adds extra glue to the edges to make a seamless transition from prothetic to skin.

13.thumb.jpg.ac3caef838bdde17cb4de0bc4310435f.jpg

Paint is airbrushed onto the prothetic first to match the performers skin tone.

14.thumb.jpg.ec8e88e0fdd42508e0163d535a7935ec.jpg

The artist then goes back with other colors to give the character more life. Here, the artist uses a stencil to add texture.

Awesome update! Even though it's kinda cheesy i always enjoyed the Horror Make Up Show at Universal Orlando.

I've been to HHN at Universal Orlando going on about 4 years in a row now but the Hollywood event seems really unique and I'd love to get out there sometime.

Awesome post! It was such a great learning experience and really a reality check that behind each event (great or not so great) it takes a lot of work and time from talented people to make an event happen. Whether its the scariest or the not so scary, this is the time of year where kids get candy, and adults scare/be scared. And its about time the artists get the credit for their walking art pieces, or imaginative scenery.

All right... some news and some pics... note these pictures are not mine, but I will give credit where credit is due.

A few minor rumors... cause we know all the big stuff! Rammstein is rumored to be the band of choice in the scare zone Reapers... so based on some clues and things on twitter don't expect traditional reapers, but more industrial style reapers!

Tip: Keep your eyes peeled in Hostel! Eli Roth has confirmed that he will play a victim in his own maze... not every night of course, they didn't say when... but thats pretty awesome!

LASTLY!

www.horrornightnightmares.com/forums/index.php/topic/2047-hhn-hollywood-2011-official-meet-up-list/

I will 100% be there and would love to hang out with some of you guys, so let me know if anyone at all is interested!

HAPPY HAUNTING! 11 DAYS TO GO!

Rob Zombie did that all the time when HHN had "The Thrilling Chilling World of Rob Zombie" maze.
