Groteslurf
End of October, together with some 23 colleagues from work, we joined to run the Ekiden Marathon in Brussels. It's a teammarathon. Each team holds 6 runners. The first runner runs 5 kms, the 2nd one 10 kms, the 3rd 5 kms again, the 4th 10 kms, the 5th 5kms and the 6th runner runs 7.2 kms. Together each team runs the marathon distance. 3 weeks after the U2 concert, I was at the same place again. Team (part of) picture. Our CEO gave me a budget to buy a tshirt or windstopper for all our runners. First runners Every runners starts and finished in the Boudewijn Stadium, formerly known as the Heysel Stadium. Some professional impressions 2 of my colleagues in front of the Atomium 4 of my colleagues on the same pic Me. Last year I ran 5 km, this year 10 km. And again me. Another colleague of mine. Picture from the start. About 750 teams joined the race this year. It was a great edition and a very nice afternoon with colleagues. We all got a medal and all of our teams finished within the same 3 minutes at approx 3h50''. Already looking forward to next year's edition. Groteslurf
October 31, 2010, I didn't spend Halloween at the themepark this year. In stead we went to an indoor festival called Sinner's Day. Punk and new wave heroes gather together to relive the late 70s-early 80s. The place to be was right next door to Plopsa Indoor. Sinner's Day Heroes Line up First and only concert we saw at the club stage : Department S The rest of the day we spent in the main stage hall. UK Subs Best concert of the day : Marky Ramone's Blitzkrieg Unfortunately it's only 1/4 the original band, the singer is a weird dreadlock goth, but still it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. Not only on coasters this is my favorite row. Miss you Joey 90% of the people were wearing black and were dressed like this. Arbeid Adelt, local heroes. Again we were on frontrow. Heaven 17, the only concert that day we didn't see from frontrow. Back on frontrow : Marc Almond (Soft Cell) Me waiting for Nina Hagen One of my 80s heroes. Too bad her gig sucked big time that day. We decided to stick to our place on the frontrow and wait for Echo & the Bunnymen. While waiting the guitar player of the UK Subs came to shake our hands. I've never been a big fan of Echo, but the concert really kicked ass. Sinner's Day 2011, I'll be there.

Groteslurf
Happy Halloween !!! Â Ok ok, wrong time of the year but I've been tied up quite a bit lately so 2 months after we went to Walibi Belgium for their Halloween event, here is the report. Not Six Flags but Walibi flags. Great coasters ;-( There isn't that much to do at WB to be honest, so we arrived only by 5 pm. Parking lot was quite full. Entrance First halloween decoration. It was the first time WB had fastpasses. The reason for us visiting WB again. Last time I was there was when Vertigo was operating Hooray for R.I.P. passes Mazes and scare zones Another great coaster ... Hey last time I was here there was a coaster named Vertigo there ;-( Burp Random flat ride One of the better coasters at WB. Halloween show. We didn't bother to watch it. All shows I've ever seen at WB were really awful so no doubt this show wasn't much either. Best ride in the park With our R.I.P. passes we were allowed to ride 3 attractions with no wait. And the mazes of course. Halloween lighting Time for a beer at the coffin table. Time for our first maze .... we thought. Much to our surprise the scare zones and 2 of the 4 mazes were already closed !!!! So we moved on the mazes which should still be open. Monster Circus It's a nice maze but the could have done so much more with it. I think we came across 2 or 3 scareactors at the most. It's quite a long maze though. But they really could do a LOT more with it. Second maze : Zoo Terror Zoo Terror is in the Turbine/Sirocco building Maze waiting area The concept of Zoo Terror is quite unique I must say. Some 100 visitors enter the building where there are cages with 'animals' in it. Then hell brakes loose and the animals exit the cages to scare the visitors. Great concept but in stead of animals they should have used real halloween scare actors. Now it was a little bit pathetic to see an actor in a monkeycostume (which they probably used once in a show) try to scare the visitors. To give you a better idea of the concept, see the short video in the next post. Exit of the maze Scare zone Yep. That's right. Closed at 5 pm ;-(( Weerwolf in the dark With our R.I.P. pass we also had access to the area right in front of the stage for the final show. It was awesome..... not !!!! The fireworks was a surprise though.

hansrubens
I expected Halloween at Walibi Belgium a lot worse but according to your pictures they did quite an ok job. Of course it's not the same level as Walibi World and Moviepark Germany but I guess you can have a great time at this Halloween event. Groteslurf
I started running 3 years ago. It's very addictive and excellent to keep control over my weight. My favourite runs are when weather is not really run friendly : hot in the summer, rainy in spring and fall or snow in winter. End last year we had a lot of snow out here and on X-mas day 2010 I took my camera with me. My running gear. The technical running clothes are really amazing. Even if it's freezing like hell, 2 thin layers of technical running gear are sufficient. It's not really cheap. I estimate the clothes you see on these pics to have costed about 1000 euro Me fully equipped and ready to run. I'm always running with my Ipod with a Nike+ connection. This makes my Ipod connect to the sensor in my running shoe. 1 km from where I live, there is a huge park. Excellent place to run. I totally love running in the snow. So beautiful It's feels to great to be completely alone at a place like this. Don't I make you think of a themepark ? Amazing When your mouth starts to freeze, you realize you're alive and kicking. Dammit .... other people... On my way back to home. Freakin' beautiful My X-mas run was short but great. Nearly 9 kms After running, I upload my runs to the Nike+ website which has a lot of options including graphs of your run. You can clearly see on this graph the moments I stopped to take pictures. Hope you enjoyed this TR.
Groteslurf
My 2011 themepark season is going to start soon. And beware, the plan is to visit between 30 & 40 parks this years  In the meanwhile, here some pics of our annual company party I organised with some colleagues. The location this year was actually on the water, although we didn't really sail out. Because of the location on the water, we thought a Captain's dinner party would be a nice theme of the evening, so we rented our suits and a photographer and we welcomed everybody arriving on 'our' ship that evening. Our ship. It's called 'De Ark' Inside Our team that organised the evening. All the single ladies wanted to be on the picture with me . Well actually, this is my wife She wanted to have my other male team member on the pic too. Dammit, another one ;-( That's better Our team Some single males wanted to have a pic with me too Our team without the captain's suits. Coming back to you with themepark reports soon. vuurvogel
You look really good Benny. All that running was to get you into this suit? Groteslurf
It's been a while since my last update. I still didn't make it to any themepark this year, but in stead, I have an update about a giant container vessel I have been on a few days ago. I'm shipping containers as a job, so I was invited for a reception on board of the maiden voyage of M/S Zim Antwerp. It's a 10000 TEU vessel, approx 48 meters wide, 350 meters long, 100000 horsepowers engine, ... well it's huge. Antwerp port Ready to board View from a bridge all these containers are actually on the vessel More containers ready to be loaded Our select group for the evening Straddle carrier the bridge and inside Captain's view Steering wheel Star Trek the captain showed us arround in the engine and power room. Engines Power room That's it. Hope you liked the pics. Next week I'm normally visiting an even bigger vessel.

brilinjo
Nice. Are you still working for K&N? I work for Panalpina now. It's nice to get up an close to what our jobs are about, rather than sitting at a desk. Â Brian
Groteslurf
Yes, still working for K+N. Â Actually being on board of such a vessel, is indeed much nicer than sitting at my desk. Â In a few days, if everything goes as planned, I'll be visiting one of the UASC 13000 TEU vessels.
Groteslurf
Normally I would have been at this very moment on the 13000 teu vessel but it got delayed on its way to Zeebruges till the weekend so no reception on a vessel today for me. Groteslurf
Yesterday evening, Hans & me had tickets for the Marky Ramone's Blitzkrieg show. Although the weather wasn't too promissing, we decided to hit 2 small nearby themeparks during the day. First, we went to Billybird Park Hemelrijk, for me the first themepark of 2011. Huge park entrance There is a lot of water in the park. In the back you already can see the reason why we visited this park. Giant climbing mountain Splash Survival ropes Entrance to the indoorsection Coaster More kiddie rides Due to the high winds, the coaster was still running test laps Too bad the wind only got stronger and the coaster didn't open. The station to get in is at the top of that tower. Splash battle The station to get out of the coaster. We decided to wait some longer for the weather to improve. And took some more random pictures We decided to go and check with the operator for the chances the coaster would still open. Unfortunately not much chance so we decided to leave for the next park. Ending with the parkmap
Groteslurf
Oh yeah, maybe I forgot to mention the most important thing about this themepark. At the topleft on the parkmap you see 'naaktstrand' mentioned. 'Naaktstrand' means 'nude beach' ..... this must be the only themepark in the world having a nude beach in the park
Guy T. Koepp
What an odd little park. Are all their rides custom designed? Â If I were to build a theme park it would include a nude beach.
