Hey, I saw on Disneyland's official website that on January 15-16, Space Mountain will be closed. Does anyone know what they're going to do? Do you think Rockin' might come back?

Please God no! It's possible that they're training new employees..and closing it for two whole days..just to train employees.. Than again..

Oh gawds no! Seriously, if they bring Rockin back, I'm excommunicating the DLR. I hope they don't, it was seriously one of the most lackluster attractions Disney has ever done.

Would someone care to explain what The Rockin' is?

Space Mountain with rock concert style lighting effects and "Higher Ground" by Red Hot Chili Peppers as the onride song.

Thanks for clearing that up...

Is it a good thing? I don't like the choice of song, but then again I can't stand The Chilis. What was the lighting like?

^ Pretty crappy. Way too much of the building was visible, plus being able to see that well makes the ride feel as slow as it actually is.

The whole thing lacked effort and was a huge pile of suck and fail. I hope it rots and never comes back (unless they fill up the entire mountain with pot smoke and play Free Bird).

Well despite the criticisms, I HOPE they bring back Rockin' Space Mountain and Rockin' California Screamin'!

Rockin' Space Mountain was loved by me, my sister, and my mom (my little brother hated it though). However, i insist that they would lighten up on the lights and make them actually synch to the ride and music (like DLP's Rock n Roller Coaster). They can pick a different band if they liked.

Rockin' California Screamin' was loved by me and my sister. I know, the only real change made to the ride was the soundtrack, but that little change forms my sister's opinion. I think the regular soundtrack is good, but my sister says that RHCP music makes it a lot better.

So I'm REALLY hoping that Disney brings back Rockin' Both Parks for like two months (four months is too much).

If we're playing that card... my whole family despised it. You could see the track on Space Mountain, and the soundtrack was..boring to be quite honest. Rockin' Screamin's soundtrack was barely even working, and the parts that did work didn't sync to the ride the way the real soundtrack does.

All I'm saying is, if they bring Rockin back it sure as hell be better than last time!

Like New Coke, Rockin' Space Mountain is a horrible, horrible idea that hopefully will never be subjected on humanity ever again. One of the most half-assed presentations of an idea that I have ever seen, and totally ruined the ride. SM is fine, quit screwing around with it and concentrate on things that actually do need improving.

Hey, I read in Bob Sehlinger's "Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2008" and in his Space Mountain review at the bottom, it said that:

"Those California imports keep coming! Plans for Space Mountain are calling for the futuristic music to be changed temporary to rock 'n' roll music for Rockit Mountain, a California overlay featuring blinking lights that was very popular with fans in California."

Don't believe me? Read it up and see for yourself!

Single greatest idea this site has ever had!!!

(Besides, it's probably just going to be down for a quick once over. Considering the reputation they have had for maintenance in recent years, shutting it down for a couple of days to check things out wouldn't be a bad idea!)

^^It was popular because half of So-Cal loves the RHCP and was too busy having an orgasm to note how cheaply it was done. (At least, that's how it was for my friends. I can only assume that most regular park guests felt the same)

What if they used a death metal song?

It's probably the closest thing most people will get to the holy grail of a lights on ride, so for that reason I hope they do bring it back.

I'd like to see some hard statistics on that 'fact'.

Al lutz mentioned in an article last spring that while attendence was up for Space Mountain... so were the complaints. Its likely it will not becoming back.

Space Mountain wasn't closed for two days when they did Rockin' Space Mountain the first time and it wasn't closed for two days when they undid it. The makeover is designed to be turned on at the flick of a switch. Everything that encompasses the Rockin' version is installed on the ride right now and was installed when they rebuilt the track in the first place.

It's probably just a quick refurbishment.

I liked Rockin' the first time I rode it but it got old after just a couple of rides. Space Mountain is one of those classic Disney attractions that's substantial enough as is, I hope if they have to do it again they either update it with new music or maybe some effects that make it interesting but I'd rather they just leave it alone in 2008. I must admit that I really enjoy Rockin California Screamin because the only new thing they add is the music and it seems to go with the ride well.

The one overlay that REALLY works and I really enjoy is Haunted Mansion Holiday, it's done right with every scene changed dramatically. It won't work for a lot of rides like Space Mountain, which loses its basic element (the dark) in exchange for some flashing lights and the Chili Peppers soundtrack.

Just leave SM alone, its great just the way it is, especially since Mission 2!
