Photo TR: Playcenter - São Paulo, Brazil

Recommended Posts

Since everyone seemed to enjoy the pictures of Beto Carrero World, I'm posting now some pictures of Playcenter, an amusement park in São Paulo, the largest city in South America.

São Paulo is the financial capital of Brazil and has 18 million people.

Playcenter opened in 1973 ans is completing 35 years in 2008 with 5 roller coaster and several great flat rides.

It was the first park to bring to Brazil a coaster with an inversion, in the 70's and the first to bring a Schwarzkopf coaster.

The park receives around 10 people a day, with 15 thousand peeks during helloween season.

Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Thanks for the TR!!

I remember looking at some pics of those coasters on rcdb.com a while ago, but it's much cooler to see more of the actual park, which looks quite nice.

By the way, was that log flume (photo is about in the middle) open and if so is that a drop or lifthill ? as it looks a bit strange.

Glad you liked the TR!

The interior of the castle is pretty cool too. It was designed by a company called Indiana Mystery (www.indianamystery.com.br), specialized in terror events/instalations.

This same company build an attraction right next to the castle called "Monga", in which they tell the story of a girl who turns into a gorila and than she atacks the audiece. Pretty old ride, but with a cool new version.

They're also responsible for the Helloween event this year, which is called "Noites do Terror" (Nights of Terror) and the theme, this year is "Na tumba do faraó" (In the tomb of the pharaoh).

Check out: http://www.noitesdoterror.com.br/

Playcenter is a great Urban Park. It's squeezed in the center of an 18 million people city and still, a great park, full of life and colors.

The log flume was open. That, on the picture, is a lifthill. I don't know exactly how it works...

Sorry for bringing this topic back from a few months ago, but can anybody tell me if Kings Island's Flight Commander attraction was ever moved to Playcenter? Thanks.

I'm not sure, but I think Playcenter already had a ride like this (at least, it was very similar), but it was before Flight Commander left KI. I don't know from where Playcenter one came, and I also don't know where it is nowadays, since the park doesn't have this ride anymore.

I am considering planning a trip to Brazil sometime in the future. How far away are the major parks from each other?

As you may know, Brazil has continental dimensions, so the parks are very far from each other. If you take the road after leaving Playcenter, you can find Hopi Hari Theme Park and Wet'n Wild Brazil in about 45 minutes. The other Brazilian parks are located at other states, so you'll need to go by plane.

I can help you with any doubt if you want to come here. Just send me an email: marcio@cbmr.com.br

Was the Boomerang any good?

Yeah, our Boomerang runs pretty smooth, if I can use Boomerang and smooth in the same sentence. lol But the park staff really does a great maintenance job and keep it in great conditions.

The coaster was repainted last year and received a new color scheme:

OMG Playcenter!!!!

So, the last time I was at Playcenter, I was 6 years old and it was my last day in Brazil because I was coming back to good ole U.S. and A. All I can remember from that trip was the log flume they had for kids, and then this other log flume that EVERYONE was in line for. And this really scary/weird dark ride. The park looks GOOD from what I last remember!

Obrigado for bringing back my childhood!

Playcenter is really a very nice park. I really want to be there when TPR pays a visit!

The old dark ride was the Monster House. like a ghost train, but with suspended seats. Really cool.

The park is really modern, clean and colorful. The Brazilian Coaster Club will have 2009's annual meeting in São Paulo and Playcenter is one of the parks we'll visit. If anyone wanna join us, we'll be there in early july.
