Crack heads gone wild! How freaking perfect was it that it was parked next to our bus? I swear, these are the things that make me love these trips so much!

Jay, you’re right, it did feel a lot different then the last few times I rode El-T

Daren, so happy that everyone who chose to go to SFGA again had a chance to ride that bull all warmed up and possibly, when the ride ops were a bit more tired. I had never been stapled in El Toro until that morning and with it running a teensy bit rough, made for a somewhat uncomfortable, although still rockin’ ride.

Scott, did you buy that video yet? Seriously, how random was that van?

Even with the rain, it still was an awesome day. I really like that park. I can only imagine if they added a few flats, it would just make it that much better.

Leaving early because of the rain worked out because I think that was the night we ran into the most insane traffic…ever. I’ll never forget that rest area line for any type of food – Mmm pasta, and a pound of water with tomato sauce and vegetables, with a pound of water, which consequently, we paid for by the pound

Day 5! Six Flags America

Postby rollin_n_coastin » Fri Aug 29, 2008 5:33 pm

So here we are again before the weekend rolls on in!

I have to admit, driving past Washington and seeing the capital building in the distance as well as the monument was quite cool. Yep, I'm a geek that way. In the area of the nation's capital, I was thinking, here a park must be themed as the best of the best, true Americana in all it's glory, which in itself, would be pretty cool in a themepark.

Well, we arrived in close by Maryland and rolled on into Six Flags America! The theming potential and vibe of the park pretty much stopped at its name and with the fact that it was close to Washington.

Some cool rides for sure and even some pimped out golf carts full of Uncle Sam cleaning staff. BTW, that's about as themed as the place got...and as lively.

As bad as everyone thought it was, I did pass by employees throughout the day who actually seemed genuine when they asked how I was and wanting to make sure I had a great day. Cool. But wow, ERT was a wee bit disorganized and a lot of stuff just seemed to be broken. From what I gather, it is a park in transition that hopefully will serve its area better in the future.

Other Highlights:
-Batwing...my favourite flyer!
-Pimped out Uncles Sams in a golf cart (Robb has awesome pics!)
-Flash pass tickets
-Joker's Jinx, how awesome is that ride? (Thanks for riding with me Cora and Axel!)
-An SLC that hurt more than Flight Deck, it exists!

ERT started, kinda sorta, at Wild One. But, it was broken. So, we were escorted to the second ERT ride - Batwing.

Anyone ever see that Flintstone episode where the run down amusment park owners try to sell to Fred?

Batwing. I loved this ride! Because ERT was a bit messed up, we only had one ride on this before running back to Wild One for one ride. The good thing, the park did manage to open up Joker's Jinx. I was really happy about that because it just looks so cool, of course.

It only had lap bars! I loved this one and rode it four times. Even when the park opened, it really wasn't all that busy.

Kiddie Coaster take over..kinda! This sucker looked new and tame but it hurt. A lot.

No matter, Stef, Wagner and Marcus seem to love this mini pain machine.

Before I mentioned that theming wasn't outstanding, but here, they hit the mark...

So after all that it was Roar......ooohhh...oooowweeee! Than, the SLCeee my ears bleed. Then, we were late for lunch and the big vote - Elissa spanked us. At least we got all the coasters in! Advice: When there is a mandatory lunch...don't be late! You may have missed a major vote such as decided whether or not to leave.

I have to say, while we were all as a group agreeing to leave early, I truly felt bad for the people serving lunch and the PR rep who were witnessing Robb and all of us tastefully suggest and decide to leave a bit early. In truth, it was the correct decision because of that wonderful DC traffic.

A brief and blurry look at Washington.

A bit intense...maybe some Fabio, Meatloaf? Nah..it's really cool A-Jay!

I have no idea why I took this, I just remember that it was really funny. See, you'll just have to come on a trip to figure this stuff out! This is Trent from downunder by the way...maybe falling again..so of course a water bottle will rescue him as no bushes are around :)

I would very much like to believe that statement is true, but if you look at the park's history, they haven't added a coaster since 2001, and have only added one or two rides to the theme park side since then. I don't think that fits the definition of transitioning.

I visited the park shortly after the tour did, and it was in the worst shape I have ever seen it in. And SROS- wow has that thing got a rattle to it.

Anyway, good report!

Hey thanks! Well in all honesty....a park in transition is simply a very polite way of saying....place needs some major work and TLC. So, either SF hasn't gotten to it yet and will once its core parks are all up to the level they want, or they're going to sell it and let someone else give that park the TLC that it needs.

It makes me sad that the park is so well.....crappy. Why?

Joker's Jinx.

I heart that ride probably more than I should.

I roomed with Tony and lived to tell about it!

I didn't think it was that bad considering we had been to Coney Island and Rye Playland already. Sure, two of the rides promised for ERT didn't work when we got there, but they did what they could and got them running before the park got too crowded. Honestly I think they were a bit embarrassed that it happened that way.

To me, this was the only corporate park that we hit that didn't really feel like a corporate park. That's both a good thing and bad thing.

Unfortunetly for them, they did become the source of a running joke between Vanja and I. Every time we came across a ride that wasn't working at whatever park we happened to be at we'd say something like, "It's broken...are we at Six Flags America!?"
