We had a nice little DQ-OJ franchise over on The Drive
(our main shopping street close by) for just over a year.

Then, it shut down while I was away
on the TPR Japan Tour last summer.

So - will gather the ingredients for this
concoction and give it a good old-fashioned try, lol.
Thanks for the recipe, Brandy!

Unfortunately our DQ doesn't have Orange Julius products. But the recipe is really good! Hope you like it!

I haven't had an Orange Julius in years. Now I'm craving one. Time for a trip to the mall i never go to just to get one!

School is about to be out soon (one more month!) and then my weekdays won't be so hectic and I'll have to post some more recipes!

Glad you liked it!

Hooray, school is out for the summer! And since my evenings are no longer consumed with getting stuff ready for school the next day I have time for baking! So yesterday being a holiday and me off work I had to bake something. I haven't been grocery shopping this week (going on my lunch break today, fun!) so I was low on supplies. I found a recipe that I actually had everything I needed to make it (well almost everything; I didn't have coconut, but they were delicious without it).

The recipe says "Butterscotch Cookies" but I found that they're more like bars, or brownies in texture. Really, really tasty. In fact they were all eaten by the time we went to bed last night. They're a little time consuming because you have to cook the brown sugar and butter on the stove for a while before you bake, but not difficult at all. Here we go!

The recipe. I didn't want to bring my big book with me to work to type it for you.

Start with brown sugar.

Butter.jpg
And butter. Not my usual brand. Shocking.

Sugar and Butter in Pot.jpg
Cook the sugar and butter until bubbly. The recipe says low heat, but I put it on medium. It took a long time to bubble on medium so low would be excruciating.

Cooked Syrup.jpg
And the cooked syrup. Let it cool (which also takes a long time). It will thicken as it cools.

In Mixing Bowl.jpg
I was too impatient to let mine cool completely. I dumped it into my mixing bowl and the metal bowl got hot.

Eggs.jpg
The reason you're supposed to let it cool is because you don't want the eggs to cook in the hot syrup. But I turned my mixer on before I added the eggs so that they would be mixed in immediately and not have a chance to cook.

Mixed Syrup.jpg
The syrup and eggs (and vanilla, which I didn't take a picture of) all mixed up. This cooled the syrup down considerably.

Batter in Pan.jpg
Then you mix in the dry ingredients (which you sifted together in a separate bowl previously although I didn't tell you to do that, but you read the recipe, right?). And then spread the batter into a greased pan. I used a 10-inch square pan and they came out a good thickness.

Finished Bars.jpg
And the finished bars. Really more like blondies. Delicious. They have a kind of a crusty top layer and chewy middle. Very good!

Two things...

1. Do you have a good recipe for Blondies? I can almost never find ones down here and having some in NYC last week whetted my appetite!

2. I had the most amazing dessert ever last week at Molly's Bakery in NYC. It was a Cake Batter Cupcake. Here's the description from their menu: CAKE BATTER
vanilla confetti cake, raw cake batter, vanilla cake batter buttercream, festive sprinkles

I need to have this again...feel up to trying to make a batch and see how they come out?!?! ;)

I'll take both challenges! I'm going to start looking for recipes when I get back from lunch!
