London Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

Recommended Posts

Hyde Park again hosts the now established Winter Wonderland , it's in it's 11th year and gets bigger and more Octoberfest as the years go on.

Highlight for me was Olympia Looping such a credit as a coaster and G's all the way.

Most of the larger attractions are £9 a person, Other new debuts this year included the first KMG XXL owned by a uk showman and the View Tower ride.

My first report on here so be gentle.

£9 per person per ride!!!!

Is there some sort of family discount, to take my wife and two kids on a major ride it's going to cost me £36?

I imagine it is not cheap to ship those rides across the pond. Olympia Looping is 20 containers on its own!

Exactly. I wish people had more understanding of what it takes to maintain, operate, and move around the 27-year old world's largest traveling roller coaster. I paid 9 Euros per ride at Oktoberfest and I think I probably rode it at least 10 times without even thinking about it especially when you consider that a ride like Manhattan Express costs $16 per ride and I'd much rather be riding Olympia Looping over and over.

The other option is that maybe Barth will just stop operating such an awesome coaster at so many fairs and I'd rather just pay the 9 Euros to keep that ride operating.

Freelance artists and designers are forced to charge more per hour than they would normally be paid working full-time for the same reason. Much like a freelancer has to pay for their own health insurance, travel costs, computers / equipment, software licensing... Every single one of these show companies has to pay for so much more than the continued maintenance of their attractions. Also, from what I understand, these attractions can sometimes be a family's entire livelihood.

Curious unrelated question, is it officially called "Munich Looping" now?

I have worked on travelling carnivals/fairs from aged 8 so I'm aware of how much it costs to haul around rides, living wagons and cranes and then keep all the lights going, sound system etc in working order.

I had specifically gone to ride Olympia Looping and was under no illusion that it wasn't going to cost me a lot of money, just when money is tight despite the choice of rides I had to choose carefully because its a bloody expensive day out, luckily I don't have kids otherwise I wouldn't have gone as for every adult ride there were equally 4 kids rides at £2/£3 .

There were also three spinning mouse coasters (one inside an ice mountain) the wilde mouse xxl and a suspended mouse coaster all riding at £8.

The Circus is Zippos Circus, there was also an Ice bar , Ice sculpture trail and Cinderella on ice plus and Ice Rink...again all with quite large entry fee.

Below some rides I work on

New for 2020: Olympia Looping dynamic pricing! The 5-car train will run at a "value" £6 per ride while the "enthusiast edition" 7-car train will run simultaneously at a "premium" £12 per ride. The ride's new owner stated, "Never before have more people had greater opportunity and diversity to experience Olympia Looping at a variety of price points to meet the increasingly dynamic budgets of the average consumer."

  • 3 weeks later...

I was in the UK last week for a series of concerts and managed to squeeze in a visit to Hyde Park on a Monday night.

As it's reputation had certainly preceded it with regard to the size, the detail and the quality, Winter Wonderland had a lot to live up to.

Holy crap!

I can easily say that Hyde Park Winter Wonderland is everything that everyone says it is and more. We had an incredible time. The rides were amazing, the food was fantastic, and the prices are completely on par with the level of excellence being offered. Absolutely worth every penny/pound/schilling/quid/whatever.

I didn't take very many photos, but here they are. Enjoy!
