Photo TR: My "Enjoyable Day" at The Park At OWA!

Recommended Posts

Trip Report (November 11, 2017): Hola my fellow theme park junkies! Let me start off by saying this was my last theme park trip for the 2017 season, and much sadness took over my heart. I had plans on visiting another theme park before the year was over with, but life threw a wrench in the blender which caused unnecessary problems and whatnot . . . BUT . . . life moves on. LOL.

The Park At OWA is a new amusement park that opened in Foley, AL. A place many people didn't know about (I'm guilty), unless you're heading to the beach for a day or two. The Park At OWA is part of a shopping/entertainment district that opened this past July. It's not fully up and running just yet. Construction is still ongoing as the only thing that was opened was Groovy Goat, Wahlburgers, and Hershey's Ice Cream Parlor. The Towneplace Suites Hotel was also open for guests. I'm sure once construction is finished this place will be booming with people from all over! It'll be Alabama's mini version of a Downtown Disney . . . somewhat. LOL.

I visited The Park At OWA on Veterans Day. I know, I know . . . "ARE YOU CRAZY?" . . . "WHY WOULD YOU VISIT ON SUCH A BUSY DAY? . . . "ARE YOU INSANE?" Actually, it wasn't busy at all. Let me repeat: IT WASN'T BUSY AT ALL! I just knew visiting on a Saturday (a major holiday added on to it) that it was going to be packed and full of families with kids, but everything was a walk-on. I could have marathon all the major attractions if I wanted to, but I decided against it. I did have a 3hr+ drive back to Livingston, AL. LOL.

All in all, my day at The Park At OWA was great! The employees were wonderful and friendly! And the weather turned out nice as well! I advise all theme park junkies to visit this park . . . BUT . . . try to wait when all the shops/entertainment is up and running for a full day or weekend excursion. Trust me, YOU WILL HAVE FUN!

*Roller Coasters:

Southern Express: Yes, I managed to get this credit! At first I had doubts because I had no kid, and I thought I was going to be too long to fit in the seat, but all worked out great! They sent the coaster train around THREE times which was a plus for me!

Crazy Mouse: It was a nice ride, but I guess because I'm skinny my bones were hitting the side of the coaster car as it jerked around the tight corners. I survived though! LOL.

Rollin' Thunder: This is a tricky coaster. A VERY TRICKY COASTER! Some complain about this coaster model from Zamperla and feel that the coaster can be a bit rough. Well . . . that's where the tricky part comes into play. I managed to get three rides in (front once and twice back), and here's the secret: IT'S HOW YOU RIDE IT! The first time I rode it, I found it to be good, but my head hit against the restraint. The second time I rode it, it was great because I started to crack the code of riding it. And the third time was FANTASTIC because I maneuvered my body with the coaster train. I kept my head forward, and turned with the transitions. If this coaster had lap bars only, I promise you it would be a TOP 20! So remember . . . IT'S HOW YOU RIDE IT!

*Thrill Rides:

Freedom Flyer: A fun ride! It's your typical swing ride.

Air Racer: It was an interesting ride. It was my first Air Race ride, and I really had a good time riding it.

Alabama's Wham'a: This was a truly different experience considering it's the new version of the Enterprise models. I prefer this model better! WAY BETTER!

Twister: Unfortunately it was closed . . . sadly.

Wave Rider: It was okay. I just don't advise to eat before riding this ride. SERIOUSLY! DON'T EAT BEFORE RIDING!

HERE'S TWO VIDEOS DOWN BELOW OF MY VISIT IF YOU WANT TO WATCH. I'M NOT THE BEST VLOGGER, BUT I TRY! LOL.

Great report! I can't help but see how similar the ride selection is to Luna Park with all the Zamperla rides, but they make some good flats.

I liked Coney's Thunderbolt, as did the 2 people that rode with me, but others despised the ride when they rode the next day. I think I sat up straight for it, so I wonder if some cars were considerably rougher. The ride is one intense little coaster and I found it smooth other than a shuffle atop the vertical loop.

Thanks! I hope to visit Luna Park one day and ride Thunderbolt to see a comparison. Rollin' Thunder is intense, and it's smooth. Once I figured out how to ride it I was good to go.

Nice report. I remember hearing about that Thunderbolt clone when it was announced and haven't paid much attention to anything else about this park since. So thanks for the update. Great photos. That coaster is absolutely gorgeous in blue/white.

Thanks! And those colors really do bring out Rollin' Thunder! I just love how the coaster goes through the middle of the park!

Thanks for posting...I have been looking forward to your trip report of this park! It's always great when a new theme park opens no matter where or how many rides they start with.

Hopefully it will be a success and can grow larger in the not so distant future.

Thank you! I'm proud that I have a new theme park in my home state. Also, they have plenty of room for future expansion. I heard a water park and new hotel is in the works.

This is the first TR I've read on this park, I think. Thanks for posting. I hope it makes it, seeing as how dead it was on Veteran's Day.

You're welcome! The Mobile area had plenty of activities going on for Veterans Day, so many people probably didn't get the memo. But I took this opportunity and ran with it. I'm glad I did so I could really take my time and enjoy the atmosphere of this new park.

Thanks, I just added a page in the Park Index for The Park at OWA.

Awesome! I hope everyone enjoys it.

If you have a photo of the Wave Swinger or Rockin Tug (Raft) can you post. I think those were the only non-kiddie rides you didn't post.

thanks

Yeah, I don't equate Veteran's Day with amusement parks. Hope they add the water park soon. Once it get's more hotels, I'd like to see an actual dine in movie theater, micro brew, and bowling/FEC.

I will certainly say the area has the potential. With the beach not too far away, it would be the perfect stop.
