Great trip report of DisneySea Adam! And you're right, there is so much to see in either park, whether the theming is right in your face,

or slightly hidden from view, for you to discover and enjoy.

Looking forward to more of your TR.

Our trip continued with our first day at Tokyo Disneyland! This was an entirely new experience for both of us as I had only visited Tokyo DisneySea during my trip eleven years earlier and this was my wife's first trip to Asia. Tokyo Disneyland is unique in that it presents a "best of" approach, borrowing elements from Disneyland Park and Magic Kingdom in Florida, while also having a lot of elements exclusive to this park. This was such an incredible experience for me in that it presented a true opportunity for me to fall in love with Tokyo Disneyland.

10.thumb.JPG.e357babe1b6c39cab07f54daaa564253.JPG

Like a full-size Starspeeder 1000 parked inside of the entrance of the queue!

11.thumb.JPG.06c620eb0fc5c3d9ccde5a0b007869d8.JPG

And this gorgeous video monitor in the extended queue area.

12.thumb.JPG.301c98562b4825392c5a808e13a3eea3.JPG

From here it becomes more familiar...

13.thumb.JPG.832b32f7c1d5287eb5bcd70d6046bbaf.JPG

But there are unique touches like these Hitchhiking Droids.

14.thumb.JPG.8e5ad31a9b5d59db7f2b2c30d68d2abc.JPG

The loading terminal is simply gorgeous!

Monsters Inc's ride building was built from the ground up with none of the former Meet the World structure retained.

First stop, Monsters Inc. Ride and Go Seek!

3.thumb.JPG.775d4fda85a1d5873f964f02b1c3a4b7.JPG

This is the key to your experience!

4.thumb.JPG.1205924bbd03a9fb77e2f7a8c42a7013.JPG

You point your flashlight at the many Monsters Inc symbols found throughout the ride, mostly atop these impressive animatronics.

5.thumb.JPG.a507ba72e1b1dd76cfa32ea82fec6215.JPG

Such a well themed ride! There aren't any points earned for shining light on the targets--just the fun of triggering interactions through the ride!

6.thumb.JPG.eeb8434ae3658f77eefe1825c21753cc.JPG

Honestly not much else to compare this one to, but a really fun experience! We went back for several more rides throughout our visit!

7.thumb.JPG.abf6b29c514465935c24586395e72a0c.JPG

We'll be coming back for this in a little bit thanks to some Fastpasses!

8.thumb.JPG.00f434027496675787b7e94498759a32.JPG

With some time to kill on this corner of the park we figured we'd knock out Star Tours.

9.thumb.JPG.d08d32bd3850f520cbb0199822f71c37.JPG

While the ride itself is the same as the stateside (and now Parisian) counterparts, the show building is expansive and has some very unique elements...

16.thumb.JPG.77dff90d8852e1f3d3b1ad65e6b5f905.JPG

We went back several more times thanks to the old-style Fastpass system still being in use at the resort!

17.thumb.JPG.33e12aef2a856a1e1eb367d563de87a7.JPG

There are some clever gags in the exit of Monsters Inc. that are worth a look.

18.thumb.JPG.167b5b155054abb98e37241859b9cd8c.JPG

The Tokyo Disneyland Band was one of many spontaneous performances we witnessed during our day in the park!

19.thumb.JPG.577e3af9e001de221a1a91b40ce35d8e.JPG

Pirates of the Caribbean is located in the park's New Orleans Square.

20.thumb.JPG.46effa0c2f28ba0283b4d42eac8c0f67.JPG

Similar to Disneyland's version complete with the Blue Bayou Restaurant, but interestingly enough, riders exit before the lift hill return back to the entry station.

21.thumb.JPG.606487ff166c19544b1002fded4894e2.JPG

Something's crashed in Adventureland and I couldn't be more excited!

22.thumb.JPG.ddfeff311dc86ac7b6bc5ebc5e56ae8f.JPG

Honestly, this version of the Tiki Room was one of my most anticipated experiences in Tokyo Disneyland.

23.thumb.JPG.cf06fbb68174e30006c055e67bdc3cde.JPG

The queue is like a cross between Disneyland's and Magic Kingdom's with the Tiki Garden from California...

24.thumb.JPG.2dc4042b810821c82353974454757522.JPG

But the water features from Florida. This was likely used in the previous versions of the shows' pre-shows, but it is not in use for this version.

25.thumb.JPG.b99074fed5e2ddabe7dcef99c734ead5.JPG

I loved every minute of the show! I know purists will take great issue to this approach but the audience loved the show and it just felt so energetic and modern compared to the classic version of the show.

27.thumb.JPG.927808671ad0a3e7946dc7642ce5d5a7.JPG

Jungle Cruise Wildlife Expeditions is a recently-updated take on the classic Jungle Cruise.

28.thumb.JPG.51d70c27ca4a0ae6bc08d8128b76e3fc.JPG

It is the first version of the ride to have a custom-designed audio track along with a new narrative featuring the spirits seen in these hanging totems. We couldn't understand any of the spieling but the ride was fun all the same.

29.thumb.JPG.ac5e2eab2ab9ff49d8b0b2ae5724ff69.JPG

The ride's audio actually triggers the opening of "The Circle of Life" here which oddly works perfectly. Again purists may take issue but it garnered a ton of laughs in our boat!

30.thumb.JPG.8abe5f1fe7f920bf4101987ae9d4ec84.JPG

And the classic scenes remain intact.

31.thumb.JPG.f031ef07ba1001281c5f15d098cfc857.JPG

Wouldn't want to be the low man on that totem pole.

32.thumb.JPG.4a924363ca20120a05822ce93e4f0222.JPG

Photos don't do it justice (so I won't try) but the inside of the temple has been updated with a neat projection mapping effect that I can only hope will make its way to Florida at some point.

33.thumb.JPG.419027f1c1b91870bca5b69328436680.JPG

Good old Trader Sam!

34.thumb.JPG.7e809543c8125b7029b631fbe1e62bdf.JPG

The Leaky Tikis don't leak here.

35.thumb.JPG.a5d9c0615e1c5b0da859ccca987e640d.JPG

Look at this beauty!

36.thumb.JPG.a7cf44ffbf325a215b0180a3b26e873c.JPG

I love the alternate brickwork that was applied to the lower portion of the castle... It just makes the whole thing feel that much more *real*.

37.thumb.JPG.ae6d3c1248f2b68c9a38af6ee19332d8.JPG

I was bummed I couldn't see the old Cinderella Castle Mystery Tour but Fairytale Hall was a cute replacement.

38.thumb.JPG.02ac22d3e3c6194b905d3cac4d8a25cd.JPG

Look at this detail!

39.thumb.JPG.89702d03d6ddac9333ead912e2f1cfe4.JPG

A pretty interior scene!

40.thumb.JPG.4939202d69ef2c152467ae0c94339037.JPG

And a neat little element that happens every few minutes or so.

41.thumb.JPG.97512fabd96739dab6f779ed4391081f.JPG

I always make it a point to look up in Disney attractions for design elements like these.

42.thumb.JPG.fcdff3e075f37e9555dff12dccef0652.JPG

It made me smile to see this beautiful tile mural originally designed for Florida's Magic Kingdom also present in Tokyo!

43.thumb.JPG.8db19e2dc4dde4b25cf2c47151ef24f4.JPG

And credit was even given to the original artist, Dorothea Redmond, a name many Disney fans know well.

44.thumb.JPG.3f46f4de7643db964dc483bf42863470.JPG

Time for another of my most hotly anticipated rides of the trip... Pooh's Hunny Hunt!

45.thumb.JPG.2478f8116f97329c710053512b1acfc0.JPG

Several other trackless rides have debuted around the world since this first opened but I don't think any hold a candle to this.

46.thumb.JPG.793323c6e6e4a9e87f2bb1d77b6094d5.JPG

Just so incredible!

47.thumb.JPG.6337d3f74c4ec9355f284a9938ff26da.JPG

And the Heffalumps & Woozles scene is arguably one of my favorite moments in any Disney ride.

48.thumb.JPG.b815a7e565536afa165d76a25087f297.JPG

Does it have to be?

49.thumb.JPG.046463d6dc467ebcaeb2390853c8da5b.JPG

We rode Pooh's Hunny Hunt a total of seven times this trip, second only to the 8 times we rode Sinbad's Storybook Voyage!

50.thumb.JPG.3df4d17d82876e0b90aa136cfc80e695.JPG

Even the exit is gorgeous!

DSC02219.thumb.JPG.8e3b989f4d32a0221d3c71dc51ddd90a.JPG

We rope dropped the park for our first day to make sure we could get our first rides in on Monsters Inc. and Pooh's Hunny Hunt. The super polite cast holding up "For safety please walk" signs really made me smile.

It turned out to be so good we went back twice during the trip!

The artwork inside of the venue is great and features easter eggs for many past Disney sci-fi attractions and films.

Even more easter eggs!

Some great character interactions!

Shoutout to Clarabelle Cow!

I love the walking pelicans from Finding Nemo!

Another one of those experiences I was more excited about that I probably should have been.

83.thumb.JPG.d197a685ec0eeae09abf3c9d47b9c6e1.JPG

I wasn't old enough to remember the seasonal versions of the Country Bear Jamboree that ran in Florida so I was thrilled to be able to see this in person!

84.thumb.JPG.3b4a015e826a6c6960ca44fbddef0cfe.JPG

While I didn't understand all of the lyrics I got the gist of the show and I loved it!

Dreamlights is easily the most impressive night time parade I've seen... And I used to believe that title was reserved for Paint the Night!

Dream Lights is Tokyo's Electrical Parade but it consistently sees floats taken out of rotation and upgraded or replaced so that the show is always fresh!

Just two weeks after we left three new floats debuted in the show!

Along with a new Toy Story float featuring characters from all three films!

125.thumb.JPG.c7fa9bb6933404770bf32b0ccca51551.JPG

I also think it is so neat that all of the Tokyo parades have a float at the end of the parade dedicated to the parade's sponsor.

126.thumb.JPG.1ffcfddcbacadd1a509672355b6996ef.JPG

The fireworks were fun too!

Back in the monorail station on the way back to our hotel I noticed this tribute to monorail history!

Wow, what a great TR of TDL Adam! Very thorough and lots of photos of stuff

that I don't see in reports that often. Even my own, LOL!

And not only a monorail shout out to AT, but where it came from, too!

Thanks for sharing all of this. Some really awesome shots in this report.

p.s. Um, the Snow White Fountain isn't in Shanghai DL you meant, yes?

wow. . some absolutely gorgeous pics, Jedimaster!

thanks so much for sharing, as not only are they stunning, but it's a great way for those of us who have never been overseas to get a great look at a park we likely will never physically get to.

looks like y'all had a blast to, so it was an added bonus to know what a great time you had, while enjoying the pics/

Glad you enjoyed this update! And good catch! I meant to say that the grotto is found in Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland but not the Magic Kingdom in Florida!

That's okay. I understand your enthusiasm and total joy in remembering all of your trip there.

And stuff is sometimes forgotten. Heck, it happens in my reports, easy.

And so - many - Magic Kingdoms - to keep track of, lol.

I got back from Tokyo a few days ago... wow. These photos remind me of how amazing it was.

DisneySea takes themeparks to a whole new level i'd never imagined. Insanely awesome.

And the main Magic Kingdom park in Tokyo is different but in a good way, it has the magic feel to it and I loved it so much.

Why oh why does crappy Disneyland Paris have to be the closest park to me.

^ I am very curious what you consider "crappy" about Disneyland Paris?

As for bad cast members there... I met a few stern and/or angry

cast members at DL and DCA when I was there in 2016. But that doesn't

negate the whole resort for me.

(Pardon for the sidebar, here.)

It has the worst of everything. It's full of rude, obnoxious french people. Always seems to have lower standards in every way (mainly cleanliness and staff). And it's in France which isn't a good start!

Anyway, Tokyo Disney is awesome. I think DisneySea has to be my #1

  • 4 weeks later...

Our trip continued with our second day at Tokyo DisneySea... Still my favorite theme park on the planet! On this day we spent more time focusing on the smaller attractions and taking in the theming, entertainment, shopping and dining of the park.

1.thumb.JPG.c82d93f4db899edb899cf2b2b2feb643.JPG

Another morning rush at rope drop and still the most polite rope drop rush I've experienced.

10.thumb.JPG.221d9566229cd94f657e0ed9be7fcc30.JPG

So many neat little nooks the ride paths can take you to!

11.thumb.JPG.9f212ed6a2b9e6a15ad20caff9b1853e.JPG

I absolutely love Aquatopia!

12.thumb.JPG.a3be6b58d721e809c9eeac18129e0aba.JPG

With the arrival of SeaRider in Port Discovery, the land has seen some subtle but adorable added touches.

13.thumb.JPG.d9755f9ad945f894a10a2e5ba3dab176.JPG

So freaking cute!

14.thumb.JPG.97631dfa698633246a59bacd784fbed3.JPG

Like too freaking cute!

15.thumb.JPG.6390c0fc22e5239c08808764f10b5fc5.JPG

Hello beautiful!

2.thumb.JPG.6c40d0150ab029a4c43a3e6513e3786d.JPG

It still astounds me that this is a theme park.

3.thumb.JPG.a41a87b6a796a0caa43464a7dfad646b.JPG

With as popular as SeaRider is at the park we avoided experiencing it during our first day at DisneySea but I'm especially glad that we revisited it during our second day.

4.thumb.JPG.00072ae97cf201908a4be49c6b2e4d4e.JPG

Stormrider was an odd attraction, one that I couldn't really explain or describe in 2006, so I wasn't overly disappointed to see it replaced. The preshow experience for Searider is much more impressive...

5.thumb.JPG.ef82e5be4b29fb45de6714e4fa5aff43.JPG

As is the Searider experience in the ride vehicle. The ride sequences are fully animated to the same level as the Finding Nemo films and the randomization eclipses that found in Star Tours with seamless transitions between several different ride paths. We rode three times thanks to our Fastpass usage and each time we had entirely unique set of sequences.

6.thumb.JPG.b65e19db58c8d308c107b7e6569a4343.JPG

We absolutely loved Searider!

7.thumb.JPG.dd7e2acf894f23ec227b065bfe2eb7ee.JPG

And I wasn't going pass up the chance to try more themed treats like this orange creme churro or the pineapple jelly slushie!

8.thumb.JPG.6ce4063cdc39321fe51a6050a8dd8e57.JPG

I'd waited over a decade to ride Aquatopia once again!

9.thumb.JPG.5ede7f8c8541a5547e8e52d7d25a41ee.JPG

And it was just as fun as I remembered!

16.thumb.JPG.901460314a01fdcfbd489e64ab495cc3.JPG

I fell in love with the American Waterfront all those years ago and I was overjoyed to revisit it years later.

17.thumb.JPG.c93ac5f83fd82b0035c905e1600c602b.JPG

Fans of the Disney Cruise Line ship, the Disney Magic will recognize this statue in the Cape Cod area of the park.

18.thumb.JPG.4829007d442bb47e3d9162bbc3dfa879.JPG

Not a corner or side left unthemed.

19.thumb.JPG.c204cd789bc032ecaabce8b40e9fb2a4.JPG

The chicken roll was quite tasty!

20.thumb.JPG.0f53bf6fec799fde206f55727717b80e.JPG

This was new since the last time I was here.

21.thumb.JPG.1dda4dae147f081ee967c5795c7ceb4f.JPG

I love the Palisades Park/Coney Island inspirations that went into integrating Toy Story Mania into the American Waterfront.

22.thumb.JPG.ce1600aa1212ffa59e4e0166ca6d6ef7.JPG

I can dig it!

23.thumb.JPG.966764d4f4ab3d5659d0ebaf35c8b23d.JPG

And my favorite...

24.thumb.JPG.b0a68c39594152e0ca451f644263e003.JPG

Still the best Tower of Terror story out there.

25.thumb.JPG.1a76cf2eacd813f01934cb7117636657.JPG

The preshow is an experience in and of itself.

26.thumb.JPG.2af8ce9196cba16de66246611e7a0831.JPG

The stained glass effect is incredible.

27.thumb.JPG.e564cb49eb6e6bfe53a6bc1212f9c13f.JPG

And Shiriki Utundu is the best.

28.thumb.JPG.0534c9cd01e5a3efdbf320673c738030.JPG

Unfortunately the Shiriki Utundu merchandise is much less plentiful than it was the last time I was here. I still stocked up on what I could!

29.thumb.JPG.3179927335d9d73e0135a22ad6456266.JPG

It still blows my mind that there's a life-size steamliner parked inside of Tokyo DisneySea.

30.thumb.JPG.ff02d8e62f41043ff4a35f1a71cf8187.JPG

The SS Columbia is another example of the park's above-and-beyond design.

31.thumb.JPG.41ef924dfd73fbf43724178984064cc5.JPG

The Pork Roll (definitely bacon wrapped) was awesome too!

32.thumb.JPG.f73298e39b806d3128f9d955510262d6.JPG

We found a hidden Hank from Finding Dory in Port Discovery!

33.thumb.JPG.ff11388ebe63bcee218c1f1d40049f90.JPG

And more impromptu performances throughout the park to be found! Seriously, Tokyo's entertainment game is unrivaled!

34.thumb.JPG.2d3c6e165588d6553f06ee55371365a0.JPG

Thank goodness for Fastpasses!

35.thumb.JPG.eb25c3a37e2abd0513fcd54863355517.JPG

I want the Lost River Delta closer to home!

36.thumb.JPG.571f943b40ea1a5cf9791d6ad0be7981.JPG

Still love this nod to Indiana Jones and Star Wars' film connection.

37.thumb.JPG.f089ddd8e781b686f259871a2b5502d6.JPG

Out of Shadowland was a unique show not featuring any Disney characters telling the coming-of-age story of a young girl in the woods. The story was a little odd but the projection mapping nature of the sets was a neat approach.

38.thumb.JPG.63705fb13384e369a30ec9d80a231ecd.JPG

Raging Spirits was a fun coaster that had been entirely retracked since my last visit.

39.thumb.JPG.d7f84c65ebac190a982ad53609196739.JPG

For a pretty standard layout, the theming and fog effects make it a step above.

40.thumb.JPG.70935b8edee5d650e8d822c765a11353.JPG

The way the coaster cuts through the fog is a pretty neat effect in person.

41.thumb.JPG.623e5272d24e8d8a239da984040d71ab.JPG

Another new addition since my last visit.

42.thumb.JPG.46071ce7ccc7f68c7c2cde18b56aa2a9.JPG

Something neat that is unique to the Tokyo Disney Resort is the games of skill that they offer... It isn't the fact that the games exist that is unique, rather that if you win you get the normal prize but if you lose, you still walk away a winner...

43.thumb.JPG.947341178483cb3c8e5b588092c27905.JPG

If you lose you're able to choose a pin to take away. So in this sense, either way you're a winner.

44.thumb.JPG.5ed76a3f9f4dff5ed4404cf9bc40883e.JPG

There's no bad angle when it comes to looking out Mount Prometheus.

45.thumb.JPG.5429bd434c6cf0e8987708fafc57d7ea.JPG

Mermaid Lagoon is still one of the coolest environs here.

46.thumb.JPG.80c541cb8d3af4d59cceabc005f5d198.JPG

So cool!

47.thumb.JPG.a531880c59f03c543d9b751911f471e8.JPG

The Sea Salt Ice Cream Monaka was unique and really delicious!

48.thumb.JPG.0dfe231c03921ee1e5cea6b0e76284f9.JPG

I want this tateside.

49.thumb.JPG.c239de2ce14821896a90f933688889bb.JPG

Neat to see this as a walkthrough scene as opposed to something passed in a ride.

50.thumb.JPG.59ea7f408c4a0512c08bb22046f19b46.JPG

I could stay here all day!

There's nothing about Mermaid Lagoon that I don't love!

52.thumb.JPG.d274e08736a9aabdcb2e99cd14375cc4.JPG

I spent some more time over by Raging Spirits between my Fastpasses...

53.thumb.JPG.c8e9bc740ea16c22359526ae93364ae2.JPG

I really do think they did a great job taking a very standard coaster and making it fit into this superbly themed park.

54.thumb.JPG.cafc98f879b3da803ccf053edcd218d4.JPG

About as themed as this kind of coaster could be.

55.thumb.JPG.c8b297071292c8ed609cae2bc0aa2cca.JPG

I really liked it!

The Yucatan Sausage Roll lived up to the hype!

StellaLou was just introduced to the parks before our visit, so a set of daily greeting parades were being run to share her with the public.

Disney details...

61.thumb.JPG.0496fb996909334485937b64aa6806d5.JPG

The Teddy Roosevelt lounge was a neat nook in the park to relax and take in a good drink.

Taking in the view from the SS Columbia.

63.thumb.JPG.5ad0ef8b97ae22d89fdee48ec8edb48b.JPG

One of the few parts of the park that you can see the border between the park, the road and the ocean beyond.

64.thumb.JPG.e66154db999e4f1059341b454ba758c9.JPG

You can some of the Tokyo bay hotels along the park's skyline.

65.thumb.JPG.7eb3d08cbc2cb67325b6985d154c04fc.JPG

Still unreal.

66.thumb.JPG.30ba9afb723b9a6bd6d4d9c50baef517.JPG

Extremely realistic and astoundingly surreal all at once.

A look back towards the Mediterranean Harbor.

68.thumb.JPG.2404ecc7239546bc041aba34b28d5ce4.JPG

Cruella de Vil had quite the entourage when we saw her in the American Waterfront.

She was looking for the puppies...

71.thumb.JPG.8904465d2ca491bcbac1205e73ea1915.JPG

And she found them!

72.thumb.JPG.ed0bbf20db90aadb26dd8a26cdb9a93e.JPG

I ate at the New York Deli during my first visit to the park and it was a highlight of my visit (oddly enough). For some reason, I've always been attracted to the romanticized versions of real-life locales that Disney has designed (much for the same reason that I always appreciated Paradise Pier).

73.thumb.JPG.acd9ead9f0a3545b4cd0d7d586cf5d93.JPG

Punny.

74.thumb.JPG.3c61d5058ce37ed05ae784014a5b982b.JPG

Believe it or not, this is my favorite land in the park.

100.thumb.JPG.9b4eddd0d7379dafdcc9c76dcd046165.JPG

Super clever.

The canals are authentic and provide a real atmosphere to the area that evoke the feeling of being back in Venice.

absolutely incredible pictures.

I tell myself that SOMEDAY I'll get to see this incredible park with my own eyes. . but if that never happens, at least I've gotten to experience it thru this amazing pictures.

great report, thanks for sharing!

(and that sushi looks so, so good)

Ugh, this is making me miss Tokyo again...

Unfortunately the Shiriki Utundu merchandise is much less plentiful than it was the last time I was here. I still stocked up on what I could!

I was really wanting to get something Journey related while I was out there, but I was kinda disappointed that all they had was a die cast toy vehicle replica. If they made Lava Monster versions of the plush keychains or those plush hats, I'd do pretty much anything I could to get my hands on them.
