New S&S Concepts: Twisted Looper

Recommended Posts

Couldn't find an S&S thread so if there is a more appropriate place to put this please move. Superloop meets SkyrocketII meets Wing coaster?

I'm curious to see what all the "Larson Loops aren't coasters" whiners will have to say about this new S&S concept.

Check out more new concepts on page two.

Considering this is a launched coaster, not a continuously powered ride... there probably won't be much whining going on.

Wish we had some specs on this, not sure how big or small this is compared to a Skyrocket II. Can't help but wonder what the price comparison would be between the two as well.

Definitely seems like the industry is focusing a lot of development into more compact, affordable rides. Which I guess is good and bad at the same time

I wonder if Six Flags will buy these... This would be a perfect fit for my SF home park SFOG since they don't have a wing coaster or a launched coaster. This would be a great fit for lots of parks and I personally think this is much better than the 4D Free Fly model.

I could see "Batwing" cloned all over the chain. So ironic we all thought Sky Rocker IIs and/or Yolo type rides would end up throughout the SF chain, but now it seems as if SF is done with Premier for the time being. Now we have a scaled-down (and possibly cheaper) version of Premier's soup du jour... Interesting...

So apparently a Larson Loop got frisky with an SRII. I blame SFDK for this, because I think this is the only park with both of these ride types, and there are plenty of sketchy, cheap hotels in Vallejo.

After the success of the Sky Rocket II, it seems like every company is in a rush to come up with a compact, thrilling design. I am interested in how one of these would turn out (if built). I know that non-inverting loops can vary in thrill level. The one on Rip Ride Rockit is pretty intense, but the ones on SRII's are just okay in my view. I think the winged seating element would cause the loop to be more on the intense side (and it better be, if that is literally the only ride).

Exactly why I said this. But there will be. Remember quite a few geeks said the 4d free-spins aren't coasters.

I also knew it would only be a few posts before this showed up:

I feel like S&S is testing the waters for a full-circuit winged coaster with this. This coaster seems like it takes up just as much space as a Sky Rocket II, if not a little more. I feel like this would be out of range for parks that are looking at Larson Super Loops and Skyline Skywarps.

The tendency towards repeating one motion which is basically circular means it lacks the most important aspect of actual coasters. In other words, it makes you sick. This is surely better than the Larson Loops but how much?

Behold.

Yes I know that it was originally an Arrow concept and yes its not truly a wing coaster in the B&M/Intamin sense but to me this is more like they are delving further into the compact (read: cheaper and more likely to sell) coaster market.

It's cool and all, but it's probably a couple of years too late. Too many companies are trying to bank on the success of the Larson Loop, but too many parks have similar attractions like it now. Six Flags probably isn't interested, and unless they change their business style, Cedar Fair/Herschend usually don't go for clones. I would be surprised to see a handful of these built.

Now if S&S went for a full size wing coaster that is cheaper than B&M (and can have decent reliability), I think more parks jump on it.

I personally think this looks really great for smaller parks on a tight budget that want something big, intimidating and modern without breaking the bank.

Not by much, but definitely better than a slightly larger ring-of-fire.

^^ That photo is still one of the worst editing jobs I think I've ever seen from an amusement park.

Agreed 110%. It makes Toro look tiny (which we know its not) or the Super Loop look 2.5 times bigger than it actually is.

Edit: I didn't realize S&S actually released a grip of videos yesterday of a bunch of new concepts. I should probably pay more attention. Here is a sort-of variation of what we saw with Gale Force:

Interesting.

I don't know how I feel about this Twisted Looper concept. From a park's standpoint, yes it is huge and it is a low budget ride, but If the price tag comes close to Premier's SRII I would still buy from Premier. SRII has much smaller train(s) (32 vs 12/18) which means way less electricity consumed (plus this one requires 4 launches and additional boost on every cycle) and usually medium sized parks that need a new big thing doesn't require such high capacity. Plus this is basically a non-inverting loop but SRII is way more dynamic and flexible.

Never say never...

Yeah, Six Flags installed the blasted things all over the place, but I see the Super Loop and Skywarp being targeted at smaller parks like, say, Lake Compounce, or Knoebels, or the Fun Spot parks.

S&S products could become really popular with cost sensitive parks and smaller parks. Totally can see SF buying these S&S rides in bulk like they are doing with 4D's/ The concept rides are all pretty good looking and low space profile. If they are low cost like S&S current rides 4D spin and El Loco, they could become ubiquitous. Larson superloops are going to be dead, should have been anyway as they are 1970's era ride. Skywarps and now Twisted Looper are direct competitors and look more thrilling. Interesting S&S didn't put these concepts out at IAAPA. But putting these concepts out now and not waiting to next IAAPA might mean S&S wants parks to keep them in mind and maybe hold off on purchases till these are ago in likely 2019/20, depending on how far they are along in the concept and design.

The Twisted Looper looks to have less supports and footers, so I guess there's cost savings there. However the trains definitely look more expensive compared to a SRII because of the size and like you said more power to launch them...as well as more LSM inductors.

I could see Six Flags installing these if they're say around the same price as say a Giant Discovery, but if they are the same cost as a SRII, the Premier would make more sense.

It seems some of those videos we're uploaded by accident since some of them have now been taken down. The dive coaster has gone, and then there is the Linnanmäki coaster and the last one is the LSM single family launch which apparently seemed to depict Drayton Manor!
