Mack isn't responsable for the layout, a manufacturer do whatever the customer wants. See the family B&M...
P. Gélis, the owner of Nigloland, adapted the layout of Piraten to his park (see the model
) because he really loved that ride. He went to see both Intamin and Mack. The maintenance pieces on the Mack are cheaper and easier to ship, the seats are better (allows bigger persons), and they have a good relationship with this family... They choose Mack over Intamin for these reasons. So Mack did that layout, but it could have been Intamin.
I agree the first part of the ride could have been more powerful indeed. But the second one is really great. Don't forget that the seats are higher than Intamin's, and so the S-turn are snappier than they look.
About the speed, the ride gains 8 seconds
between the start and the end of the day! Can't wait for the hot summer days!
Another cool thing here is that plateform. While not being particularly beautiful, it allows wheelchairs to go on both sides of the station, and even more interesting, it allows the ride to run with only one operator on slow days, as he can now check the restraint on both side, or see what's wrong here or there.
It's a special request from the park, and I think it's a very good idea.
