A 40-metre high slide is being added to the rides on offer at Atlantis, The Palm's Aquaventure Waterpark as well as a new zipline that will be the longest in the Middle East.

 

The hotel on the top of the Palm Jumeirah said in a statement yesterday that construction had already begun on the Tower of Poseidon, their newest slide.

 

"This upcoming expansion will be more exhilarating than anything we have unveiled before, with unbelievable new rides the likes of which have not been seen anywhere in the world,” said Alan Leibman, chief executive of Kerzner International.

 

By the time the new development is complete, the 17-hectare waterpark will feature two new waterslide towers, the longest river-ride in the Middle East at 2.3 kilometres long, tidal waves and pools, water rapids and white water chargers, and 700 metres of white sand beach space.

 

In all, the park will require 18 million litres of fresh water to power its waterslides daily.

 

The zipline will pass above several of the rides, giving those on the line a bird's-eye view of the frenetic action below.

 

Apart from nabbing the record for longest zipline, the park will also be able to claim the world's largest diameter slide, the world's first vertical banking family ride with a double hump at the end, and first double slide-within-a-slide experience.

 

The revamp of the park is expected to be completed by August 2013.

When Atlantis The Palm sought to revolutionise the waterpark landscape with the expansion of Aquaventure Waterpark, officials turned to WhiteWater for its ORIGINAL innovations. Anchored by a magnificent 40 metre (131ft) tower, the complex will be unveiled in August 2013 and will include a number of world’s firsts including two AquaTubes™ which fly through the Anaconda™, the world’s largest diameter waterslide at 9m (30ft). This flume-thru-flume technology offers a revolutionary waterslide within a waterslide experience, allowing Anaconda™ riders a spectacular view of the AquaTubes™ right above their heads. Additionally, the world’s first zipline integrated into a waterslide tower will deliver a new level of exhilaration as riders fly through on two-lane, two-way zip lines spanning three towers. Additional originals to the Middle East, a Family Boomerango™ and two Dueling AquaLoops™ will offer adventure seekers challenges and thrills as they test their courage.

So uh, I'm just now hearing of this after seeing a small link WhiteWater West posted on their Facebook account. After doing some light digging, there had been many photos already posted on the construction of what will probably make one of the world's best water parks (in my opinion) even better.

The extended waterpark at the hotel includes four new slides, which were installed last month, and the longest zipline in the Middle East. Testing began on Sunday on the Aquaconda – a six person raft slide. The new rides are expected to open in mid-September.

 

"We're in phase one of the conditioning and testing of the new rides," said Scott Deisley, vice president of Aquaventure Operations.

 

"We gathered our most experienced lifeguards to be on the opening team, learning how to operate and getting safety training on the new rides. "We're really excited to say Aquaconda has operated exactly the way we anticipated.

 

"By the time the new rides open to the public, over 15,000 riders will have tested the new experiences at Aquaventure."

 

Work on the park extension, which is based around a 40-metre tall imitation pyramid, began in February. The slides were made in sections in Bahrain, the Philippines, Canada and the United States, then shipped to Dubai for assembly.

 

Statistics from the global attractions attendance report, produced by the Themed Entertainment Association, show that Aquaventure at Atlantis, The Palm, is ranked as the seventh most popular waterpark in the world. There were 1.3 million visitors last year, up from 1.2 million in 2011.

 

Competition for visitors at the UAE's waterparks has increased in recent years with the opening of Yas Waterworld in Abu Dhabi in January.

 

Despite Aquaventure's opening date set to be in late summer, officials believe it will still attract a large number of visitors.

 

"Everyone thinks it's too hot outside but we're very busy in the summer," said Mr Deisley, last month. "It actually outpaces most months of the year."

The UAE has definitely made heavy attempts at going above and beyond when it comes to the amusement industry (or in anything for that matter). For me, this tops it. I already loved what the water park has, but seeing all of these new additions to it just makes me very, very eager to make a return trip someday (and going with TPR would probably make it 1000x better if I could afford it ).

The slide-in-slide thing looks about twenty times cooler than I ever thought it would when it was announced. A+.

To me, this waterpark is more enticing than Ferrari World.

So now they have 2 amazing water slide towers! And by the time I can visit this place there will probably be a third as well
