F1X Dubai - Premier Drifting Coaster Track?

I was at Motor City in dubai yesterday to watch a Go Kart race and noticed coaster track next door. So, of course, I went to investigate.

Whats that over there?

Interesting, I found some info on the proposed park, but nothing on the racing coaster. I found renderings showing a weird, single spike, launched coaster, no loop, but not inverted. Has anyone seen any renderings of the "racing coaster"? Who made the track?

This coaster is the new model from Premier Rides called "Drifting coaster". That was already mentioned at the IAAPA.

Premier Rides sold a Drifting Coaster to a park in Abu Dhabi that is currently sitting in boxes.

I was going to post that I thought the track looked Premier-ish. When I looked up other Premier coasters I had trouble making a visual match with the track in these pics.

I did wonder if the blue track was part of the same coaster, or maybe perhaps the one in the tower in this pic?

It's the same track as the track that they just used for Skyrocket at Kennywood!

So when do they plan to open the F1X Theme Park Dubai?? Is Dubai constructing??

Weren't the Backlot rides at KI,CWL & KD the prototype for the drifting coaster? I hear that the drifting feature wasn't added to the KD & CWL versions though.

It was never added to the KI version either man.

So when do they plan to open the F1X Theme Park Dubai?? Is Dubai constructing??

It was supposed to open in 2009 then 2010.

At present it stands half finished and has not been worked on for more than 1 year.

lame, I am starting to feel Dubailand is completely not going to happen ever. At least I am 18 so if Dubailand is sooner or later complete. I will live to see it complete.

Really random but in RCT3 this ride is very cool

 

It was never added to the KI version either man.

The trains on the KI version actually have the ability to drift, but they don't. If you look closely at the back of the train you can see small wheels that create an arch shape where the cars would slide out on. As far as I know, the trains never did drift, and as they sit now, the cars are bolted to the chassis to prevent the "drifting".

Really?! Wow, I had no idea. Wonder why they chose not to "enable" this feature? My gut tells me I would love this kind of horizontal sliding action on a coaster.

I remember No Coaster Con in 2005? when Jeff announced Italian Job. He had told us that the trains were going to drift around corners and then there were actuators in the seats that would rumble down the stairs section. When we ended up going to the park to ride it we ran into Jeff again, and he told us that the features weren't ready yet but they had planned getting them to work by years end.

My theory is that Paramount loved the idea of the drifting/rumble but Cedar Fair did not and after the buyout, they removed those features all together.

^Yeah, now I'm recalling the talk about the rumbling down the stairs effect... too bad that all didn't come to pass.

Im sure a lot of people would have thought it was a rough ride if it had happened. lol

I called into the Dubailand sales office today, yes its still there, and there was a small section on the F1X park.

Nothing much new but here you go.

This article at Coastersandmore talked about a Racing Coaster by INTAMIN for the F1X-Themepark, so if there are no different tracks it must be the track for the Intamin Racing Coaster, which should built the main attraction for the park:

That´s not a hundret percent correct translation, but I think it will fit the main meaning:

"The F1 Racing Coaster should defenitively be the highlight of F1-X: The track will be compact and near to the ground like a racing track of the Formula 1. The trains should have a duell with a speed up to 100km/h. The LSM LAUNCH COASTER by INTAMIN should have 3 launch sections per track. First Layouts are showing 2 parallel tracks which should give a real experience in two Formula 1 Trains."

I didn´t find any layout for that by Intamin, but have to think about a coaster like Fiorano GT Challenge at Ferrari World and the old Cop Car Chase at Movie Park Germany:

Fiorano GT (by Maurer & Söhne) matches the pictures and the description I posted above - it has three LSM launch sections, too...

On the other side, there were plans for a Gerstlauer Eurofighter and 3 types of rides by Premier Rides, like mentioned by others in that Topic.

I´m not a track expert and really confused by these uploaded pics, cause this picture:

shows a Gerstlauer Launch Track (comparing to this Gerslauer Track pic:)

Could it be that these track pieces are a mix of Gerstlauers Eurofighter and the Intamin Racing Coaster (LSM LAUNCH COASTER)? Or do INTAMIN and GERSTLAUER use similar track pieces?

Very, very similar. Not as evenly spaced on Sky Rocket, but still very close. and the ties match better than they do with the Gerstlauer launch.

^^Intamin and Gerstlauer use similar designs for their track. Premier is in a league of their own in terms of track designs.
