I've lived in NOVA for five years now, haven't bothered to drive up to SFA once. While I personally haven't gone because KD is closer to me than SFA by an hour, those I know who have gone there swear they wouldn't return. It's infamous for being 'horrible' by my peers.

I just remember being at one of those family style Amish buffets and the family we were with lived in the town with Six Flags America, but they made it clear that they drove to Hershey anytime they'd go to an amusement park. On one hand, it makes sense since Hershey is awesome. On the other hand, it says a whole lot about Six Flags America.

Kings Dominion really is in an area with a ton of competition.

To be fair, your GCI is INCREDIBLY mediocre.

It's cute...

Absolutely fair. I've ridden good GCIs though at least. Hershey is only 3 hours north of where I live so if I need a solid GCI fix (as if I'm some sort of coaster junkie that just craves specific coaster makes and models as I go through day to day life) I'll go there.

I was actually disappointed in my rides on Lightning Racer this year. The ride wasn't as smooth as I remembered.

There is no such thing as a donkey punch.

Re: GCI fix, Roar at SFA satisfies my GCI fix pretty well, I thought it was slightly smoother than Lightning Racer. Neither were objectionably rough.

Not really "a ton of competition" so much as "one serious competitor". I don't think Hershey is close enough to steal away many Virginia residents. Maybe DC/Maryland like you said.

KD was always far behind BGW until the 2008 season. Dominator caught them up, and the one-two punch of BGW losing the Big Bad Wolf and KD getting Intimidator 305 made KD the leader, though InvadR was a big gain for BGW. It all comes down to Project Madrid in 2019.

About the only thing SFA has on either park is the included water park in the summer and the coaster lineup in the winter.

What is this Lightning Racer is rough crap? We rode it in late October and while it felt more out of control than usual we (the missus and I, and she is a complainer) both thought it was smooth as ever and one of our favorite rides we've had on it.

You know . . . I may very well switch my Season Pass for 2019 to King's Dominion/Cedar Fair.

The last time I actually went to KD was for a summer camp day trip in '94 (I was 13 at the time).

It's only a 2 hour drive to KD for me (depending on Beltway traffic and such)

Does Jeff Johnson count this donkey as a credit?

With the addition of Twisted Timbers, is KD the 3rd best Cedar Fair park?

I feel like it just completely depends on what people are looking for, so to throw out "Now it's the third best" seems pretty arbitrary. If people are more into atmosphere, short lines, and family rides, Kings Dominion is better than Cedar Point. It's all personal opinion.
